- Hello Lady, go to a paint store and there they have a chart that show the colors they have. Pick up a few of the colors tabs you like and take them home and look at them on your wall. You can get a pretty good idea of what color you will want. For your purple carpet, have you thought of a cream color,or an off white, , then you could add a picture or two on the wall, like a picture of a horse or horses, butter flies or even pictures of the children.. Look in magzines for pictures of different ones. Or even make a small hanging quilt to hang on the wall. That would change the roon for the little boy and girl. If it was me painting the wall I would not try to blend the painted wall to the carpet. That is a hard thing to do. I would say go for the cream color walls with dark purple carpet. Look for pictures that you can fram your self. Oh i think I would paint the wood work in the bedroom the same color as the wall, if you paint it with the cream color. /what do you say? - Q: How much could it cost me to carpet or laminate my living room, dining room, and up the stairs?
- I think I paid like $3.25 or $3.75 sq. ft. for my high-end laminate. You can tell it's fake but is the best looking laminate I could find. It came with individual beveled planks, 3 sizes, to make it look more like hardwood. It was for my basement family room. I would have gotten hardwood, but I didn't want to pay to install a sub-floor. For resale value, I'd recommend going with real hardwood. It looks so nice and is quick to clean with a Swiffer Vac. It sells around $3 sq. ft. and up.
- Q: I just bought an area rug from Home Depot. It is wool with a fabric backing and they have used a glue that I have had problems with on other rugs. It smells so bad, that is all I can smell when I walk into that room. I smelled the sample piece when I ordered it and it didn't smell. - Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) is great for absorbing odours. Sprinkle on the rug (the reverse as well as the front if necessary) leave for a couple of hours and vacuum off. You can also put a few drops of your favourite essential oil onto the rug to freshen up the smell. Also, as daft as it sounds, to get rid of chemical smells from the room itself such as glue, paint etc peel an onion, chop it in half and cover it with water, leave it in the room overnight and it will absorb the smell (don't ask me why this works but it does!) - If it were me, I'd take the opportunity to get rid of the shag carpet and replace it with something more practical. Otherwise ... blot the area dry as quickly and thoroughly as possible, insuring you also absorb the fluid from the padding. Once the bulk of the liquid has been removed, I'd spritz the area with water and allow it to sit for about five minutes, then repeat the blotting. Repeat until no color remains. Consider an inexpensive shampoo suitable for shag if needed.
