Q: I have 3 cats and my 4 year old Maine coon named Harlee keeps peeing on my rug in my dining room. She has always used the litter box until recently. I always keep the litter box clean so I dont know why she is peeing on the rug now... how do i get her to stop and how do I get rid of that smell???: Your cat keeps peeing on the rug because the smell of the urine is enticing her want to pee on it (I think that's the right way to put it. :) Well, she just pees on it because the smell is making her want to). First, you should buy an animal deodorizer and that will get rid of the smell. Then your cat will not feel like peeing on it when her scent is gone. If the rug isn't too big, I would suggest replacing it. Buy a good quality cat litter and that should help. I don't think she has an infection or anything because she wouldn't be peeing on anything then. Right? Another entirely different problem, would be that she is too stressed out. Soap/water?: I wouldn't clean it like a normal carpet. Certainly do not steam clean it or use soap and water. There is a dry carpet cleaning method called Capture. You can usually find it at the supermarket near the other rug cleaning products, or at a DIY home improvement store like Lowe's or Home Depot. It comes in a kit. You sprinkle the stuff on the carpet -- its sort of semi-damp and clumpy -- then use the brush that comes with the kit to rub the stuff into the stain or the entire rug. Let it sit for a bit, then vacuum up the residue. I have used this on my wool area rugs in the past and it works great.

Q: rug is wool. its new. it costs 80 dollars to clean with the company.. id rather do it by hand.what besides hot water and a rug.. do i put on it to clean it by hand?: Let the pros clean it since it's wool. Do NOT use hot water on it.If it's just the smell then open all the windows and let it air out. The smell will disappear. If you have a clean garage lay it in there on top of sawhorses or clean trashcans so the air can circulate.

Q: I have carpet beetles. Will carpet cleaning kill them? If not, what should I do to get rid of them that is pet friendly.: I have had a major problem with black and variated carpet beetles and no matter what I did, they kept coming back! I don't want to buy bug spray because I have a 6 month old boy. Recently I went on a whim and started spraying down the baseboards with colgate pro health mouth wash since someone told me it works for bugs and then I did an experiment. I found a beetle escaping running across the kitchen floor so I sprayed him and he was running, running, running then fell over dead! I decided to add some lavender oil drops to the mix to make it smell nice. Then, I was cleaning the bedroom and I had found a carpet beetle larvae out of its hiding spot so I took it and put it into an empty container and sprayed it with mouth wash and took it out right away on a dry piece of paper and only after a few seconds, it was dead. Try mouth wash. So far it seems to be an effective way of killing them- all life stages. Since the stuff doesnt have alcohol and if you spray the baseboards only, it shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't make a pool of it.

If it uses Stainmaster yarn, then you will have a great carpet. A 1/2 8lb pad really isn't necessary; a 1/2 6lb pad would do just fine. It all depends on your living situation: is there a lot of people living there? If so, a heavier pad would help with the wear and tear of the carpet. If it is just you or you and one other person,the lighter pad would do just fine.

Q: Including installation fees, padding, taking out the old carpet, and the material, how much would it cost to re-carpet my 17 x 14 foot bedroom with basic brown carpeting?: Depends on where you live, and the quality of the carpet. If it's a medium quality, and you don't live in an expensive area; around $400.
