So basically a bar you push up with adjustable weight and no free movement. Anyone tell me what it's called? Before anyone goes into saying It's far better to use an actual bar I'm just trying to make do with what I got. So basically On this thing I can push 100lbs once (13 years old) so I wanted to know what the best weight and how many reps/sets of what weight I should do for best results. - I personally think that, since you're body wasn't done growing (and i doubt that at 17 it is done either...but correct me if i'm wrong ). Im pretty sure the bench pressing would actually just focus on your upper body therefore i doubt it had anything to do with your growth. However squats (if i remember what those are...) do use your lower body. I'd be more concerned with that, I've always been told not to do any kind of Weight lifting or anythin before i was done growing. My father almost had the same problem that you have, he weight lifted young, and never grew up really after 15. Coincidence maybe? meh...

- I'm pretty sure nobody considers 4 ounces a cup of coffee. Yes, there are people who consider 4 ounces a cup of coffee. Some of them are the people who make coffee presses at Bodum. The European standard is technically 125 mL for a cup of coffee, but that rounds to 4 ounces (118 mL) using American measurements. I have a 4-cup press that holds 16 ounces of water, so they're consistent about the 4-ounce cup. Also, that coffee scoop that came with the press? It's also sized for a 4-ounce cup.

- You can't put balance aside, because that's the very thing that separates the two. And your muscles definitely know the difference. The bench press is a free weight exercise, and any free weight exercise is more effective in building muscle for two reasons. One, because it incorporates stabilizer muscles to assist in the movement, meaning more muscles being worked. Two, because the human body responds better to movements it would do naturally. That last part basically means your body grows better when subjected to something heavy, rather than machines, which are merely hard. This isn't to say that you should give up the machine, and it certainly isn't for wusses. Machines force proper form, and isolate the muscle you are trying to work. Do the bench press first in your workout, and the machine press toward the end, when you're tired.
