This will allow a better look, plus the ability to change the look of the room quickly and easily when you want. Besides, carpet is basically disposable, stains and gets dirty, no matter how much you get is cleaned. The hardwood floor is easier to keep and clean. If you cover the floor then change your mind later, you might have to do something to the hardwood floor to bring it back. The area rug will provide the warmth and texture/softness you are seeking.

You lay the rugs face down with the joining edges against each other on the floor, place the tape evenly along the edges you want to connect, and press with a hot iron. When the joined rugs cool, turn the piece over and comb back and forth with your fingers to hide any of the new seam that night be showing.
