- usually we send our rugs to special rug n carpet washing places, and i think it's really difficult to wash them by yourself , so find a good place and send it .

- Basic carpet can be installed with a pad for around 3$ a s/f .(+-) It can be higher or lower with the quality of the carpet and pad. This based on you getting a 15' wide carpet (thus no seams) for 225 s/f. Thats 675 $ for carpet pad and labor. This generally won t include rip out of whats there now, floor prep ( if needed) , furniture moving and disposal. Remember this can vary with quality of pad and carpet. - Q: hey just wondering is there any big difference between a rug with leg straps and a rug with a tail chord?
- Leg straps will hold the rug in place more efficiently than a tail cord. The tail cord simply keeps the rug from slipping forward, while the leg straps will prevent slippage from side to side and shifting. The rug will fit much better with leg straps than with a tail cord. Some horses are so rambunctious that they will actually get the rug to flip forward over their rumps, rendering the tail cord useless. However it doesn't matter to some horses leg straps vs. tail cord. For example: my QH was a great boy; he was easy on his blankets and did not try to weasel his way out of them. He had a generous rump and I used a rug with a tail cord and had no problems. However, I then used that same rug on my TB, who wore the same size, and she flipped it over her rump. I went to the barn one day and there she was, with the rug completely inverted over her back. It also would shift all over the place, so I put leg straps on it, and it solved my problems. If adjusted correctly, leg straps are more beneficial.

- Carpet, a baby , and sick dogs, you have a serious problem. Better to have a pro do it are you will be paying a doctor for your child. If it smells bacteria is growing in there. Do something serious, it is. I had a problem with a child pulling the nipple off his bottle . Wasn't long before the bottle had to go and the carpet had to be taken care of. I did the unbelievable and my neighbors thought I was crazy.It was Texas and it was hot. Pulled that carpet out and washed it on the drive way. Dried in two days. Ok , it needed to be relayed by carpet people, but cost me less than cleaning.It came out as good as new. Just used liquid kitchen soap on it and a big broom.You may not be able to do this at this time of year. So hire a pro, and make sure they use a disinfectant in the cleaning water. Carpet sellers don't want you to know you can do this, they hate it, but it is cheaper than replacing it and even cleaning it some times. Some of the pad may have to be replaced if it is really bad. Sorry, but its going to cost.

- In addition to the use of vacuum cleaner, it is better to use the vacuum cleaner with steam to clean. carpet can thoroughly clean and mites and bacteriaby can be killed using steam after absorbing dust. Buying a steam cleaner which can clean regularly is much cheaper than professional cleaning.
- Q: I've got greasy dirty black grease tracked on my carpet
- I would try GooGone or Goof Off in an area to test for color fastness. You don't want to end up with areas where the carpet has no color. I have also had great results with a product called SpotShot. I own alot of rental property and my handyman uses these cleaners to remove grease, ink, crayon, etc. I also like OxyClean, but I don't think it will work very well on motor oil/grease. You can try Simple Green, but test the area first and follow the instructions for diluting.

- Ollie has some nice areas rugs also (if you have that store in your area). Or, pull up the carpet if you have wood underneath. Our carpet was NASTY and we just pulled it up, but beware. It took us 2 solid weekends to pull up the carpet, take out the staples (thousands of them) and wash (3x) and map and glo (3x) the floors. They look good now, but it was a lot of work. Got rugs at Ollie's. Two similiar ones - same colors, different patterns. (Thanks to Yahoo.Answers!) Also, you can use vinegar to clean the carpets. We did that last year. Rent the rug doctor but use a vingear solution. I think 1 c white vinegar to 1 gallon of water. Good Luck!
