Q: I vacuum every day with a kirby sentria. I read somewhere that vacuuming daily can ruin your carpet, but I haven't had a problem (yet). Supposedly it'll wear out the carpet sooner? I use the correct settings for my carpet. We have a 3 year old, a dog, and 3 cats, the thought of vacuuming even every other day kind of sickens me when I think about how many crumbs and how much hair can build up in the carpet lol.Is it okay to vacuum daily? Not gonna have to replace the carpet every 3 years if I do it that way?
It's not necessary to vacuum everyday. I don't think it's a problem if you DO vacuum everyday though. I vacuum once every week or two because I don't make huge messes that require vacuuming. Another thing you can do is vacuum a specific area. Like vaccum the rug your animals play on every 2 or 3 days just to keep it fresh. But as for bedrooms and hallways, it's not necessary to vacuum so much.
Q: I heard that if someone spilled paint on their rugs their insurance will pay for new rugs minus deductable. DId you ever hear of this?
As long as it was accidental, you usually can, but the deductable is usually more than the cleaning.
Q: We just got New carpeting through our house yesterday, how often should I have the carpeting cleaned...is it every 6 months or every year? Thanks
I have three dogs and three cats, three kids, too. I have carpet all through my house. I own a carpet cleaner but also have my rugs professionally cleaned twice a year. Usually in January and then August. Stanley Steamer does a great job. I have them spray pet stain and odor enzyme, too. If you can afford to buy into their plan, they are a bit cheaper. I have a 17 year old American Eskimo who isn't great about going outside. I probably use my carpet cleaner once a month or when there is an accident.Personal Experience I use Nature's Miracle on spots. There is another great product called 0 odor for smells. It really absorbs the odors without masking or covering it up. If you can vacuum daily it really helps. No matter how much you clean, it seems like stains wick up eventually. Good luck.
Q: I haven't vacuumed my carpet in over 2 months and its really dirty. I know its disgusting but I hate this flat so much and I rarely come here, just to sleep. My room mate has a vacuum but its a standing up one and I hate those which is why I hate doing it plus my room is small and has a lot of stuff in it (huge walldrobe, dressing table, chest of drawers, bedside table, 2 person sofa, storage boxes, 2 chairs). Anyway we have mice and I put down sticky pad things and I found what I think is silverfish on it so I REALLY want to clean it properly now. Should I buy a carpet cleaner? I heard using vinegar but I'm not sure how. How would you go about cleaning it? should I just vacuum it continuously for like 10 minutes lol? And yes I know its gross but I'm really lazy.... don't judge me =/
I would completely empty the room use a good vacuum to clean it out thoroughly you might want to go over it a few times, if it still seems dirty buy or rent a good carpet cleaner and remember to follow up with a plain water or a low concentrated vinegar solution after shampooing with soap so you do not leave soap residue in the carpet
Q: how to repair flattened carpet?
Depends on how old it is and the quality of the carpet. If it was purchased in the last 10/15 years and your talking a large area,it may or may not have the memory retention built into the carpet. If it does, a good cleaning by a professional , truck mounted person can bring some life back yo it.Some lower quality carpets don t have this and you may not be able to. If your talking small area like a chair leg that has crushed it down, try 2 different methods. One is to let a ice cube set on the spot and then vacuum it. Two is to take a steam iron and steam the area. Don t touch the carpet with the iron, you ll melt it.Just inject steam into the dent. Work it a bit with your fingers to bring it back up.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q: I've read you shouldn't put them on hardwood because it doesn't allow the wood to breath or something along those lines. Secondly, if you use a rug without the rubber backing do you have to use a pad so it doesn't slide and scratch the floor? Thanks
I would buy one of those non slip backers so your nice hardwood floors wont get scratched.
Q: I am moving into a new house and the landlord left his red curtains behind and I do not plan on replacing them. What color throw rug can I purchase to match them? My couch is a tan color and I usually like neutral tones, which is probably why the red curtains are throwing me off. Any suggestions? (Would like a rug that would work with several color schemes)
I okorder for area rugs. Lots of choices and shipping is only $2.95. I would pick a carpet you like and not necessarily with red in it if you don't like it. Maybe a darker taupe? Depends on what the flooring is. To unify the red curtains in the room use other decor like framed pictures, pillows, a throw, lamp shades (can spray paint them if they are a smooth surface-not tufted or gathered in some way), a runner across your coffee table, etc.
Q: my carpet smells really bad because i wet it smells like fart seriously. does the rug doc work and does it suck up all the water not the one i spilled the one it cleans it with? and what can i use instead of the cleaner liquid it comes with?
Rug Doctor machines work really good! You can rent them for 24 hours at places like Publix or Winn Dixie for about 25 dollars. I bought one I've used it so much. I always buy Tide with Febreze and add like about 1/2 the cap since its already 2x concentrated. They have anti foaming stuff by rug doctor to keep the suds down. It sucks all the water up and if you buy arm and hammer detergent with oxi clean that works really well. Using laundry soap makes the carpet smell really nice and rug doctor steam cleaner stuff works well with it! Hope this helps. Its worth the money.
Q: we are trying to remove the old carpets in my house. you see last year, are air conditioner broke and leaked fluid all over the hallway carpet, and now we're trying to remove them. how do you do it with out ruining the floor below.
Go to a corner and simply pull up the carpet. It is probably attached by a tack strip.....a strip of wood with slanting nails to hold the carpet. Remove all of the carpeting and then all of the padding underneath. A dust mask is a good idea while doing this. If you intend to send the carpet out with the trash, cut strips no larger than 4 feet and roll the strips up into tight tubes and tie with string. Last, remove the tack strip. The tack strip has been nailed down. A small nail every 6 inches or so. Remove the strip carefully. If you need to pry, use a piece of the padding or carpet under your pry bar so as not to dent the flooring. You will have some nail holes in the flooring from the tack strip, but this is close to the wall and so it won't be too noticeable. Know that you probably have water damage on the flooring from your leak and you may need to have the floors refinished. Good luck!
Q: The floor is pretty beat up in some of the rooms and between having a baby and preparing for a deployment I don't know if we're going to be able to fix it properly in the near future so I want to prevent further damage with rugs and runners.Anyway, I want to put runners and rugs down in the heavy traffic areas. Couple of questions:Do you know of a good store/website that has matching rugs and runners for reasonable prices? Also, we plan to put the runners on stairs ourselves, which are all wood also (they are straight and all the stairs are uniform in size so it shouldn't be a problem ... it's a three-story-house) but we were wondering if we can just buy a runners to do this or do we have to buy special runners specifically made for staircases? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I think you should keep your dark wood furniture. It'd be a waste just to buy new things when you already have them. If it just does't look right paint the walls a colour that would make your furniture and floors go good together. Try adding some accessories that match your furniture and floors and keeps the focus of anything that doesn't match. Hope you find your answer!
