Q: My cat got sick a year ago and repeatedly urinated in a corner of a room. The cat is now gone, but I still can smell it sometimes, especially when it's humid. I've shampooed the area probably 15 times and used various enzyme shampoos, treatments. I don't have the money to replace the carpet. I am assuming that the urine is on the pad and flooring. How do I go about cleaning the flooring underneath and replacing the pad, etc. Should I clean the underside of the carpet or just lay in a spare piece?
Urine can soak through the carpet, down into the pad and subfloor, so surface treatments don't help. Try an enzyme cleaner, such as Nature's Miracle, and use a whole lot of it so that it soaks all the way down to where the urine odor is. If that doesn't work, you may have to cut out that corner of carpet and pad, clean the subfloor (soak with an enzyme cleaner, let dry, and then paint with a sealer), and then have a carpet layer install a new piece of pad and carpeting.
Q: Do most people prefer carpet over hardwood/vinyl/linoleum?Carpets collect dust hair mites and all things gross.. and you have to vacuum which costs money.. not to mention hard work and is loud and annoying. Also, many Americans wear shoes in their homes. So why would you want a flooring that collects the dirt on the bottom of your shoes? When has home carpeting become generalized standards for most homes? Anybody know?
It's cheaper. It's more comfortable. It's less work to maintain. I wouldn't buy (or rent) a home without it.
Q: I am redoing a room. Should it be painted before new carpeting? I want the baseboards nicely painted. Just not sure what should be done first.
There is not a wrong or right answer to this question. I always recommend to paint first, that way you don't have to worry about getting paint on your new carpet. Be sure to pull the old carpet away from your baseboards, just to make sure you don't get aline that will show if the new carpet that goes in is shorter. If you really are replacing the carpet it is easy to take a utility knife and just cut about an inch into the existing carpet and pull that part away from the wall. If you are having to live with the carpet for while, then just take an edger and pull the carpet back as you paint. If boards get scuffed when new carpet goes in, it is easy to touch up the scuffed areas. You might want to paint as much as 30 days in advance to give the paint a chance to cure out, less chance of scuffing as paint will be harder, not soft.
Q: i am looking into the future and looking at what i need to buy for a horse *so i can save up enough*right now i'm looking at rugs and saddles.. i have been looking on the horseland website (sells all horse stuff for outside aussies)and i have noticed that some saddles range from $300 - $800 *could never afford one over $1000* ... there doesnt seem to be much difference between them both...
I bought a saddle from a girl in the local Pony Club for $300. I have had it for three years and will probably have it for many more, it is in good condition. Buy a almost new used saddle and clean and condition it every so often. It will keep the leather soft and supple. And it will keep the saddle in better condition so it will last longer. For rugs, I would get a thick rug in the winter (well, actually, it depends how cold it gets there) and in the summer, you don't even need a rug. You could get a protective shett. It is like a rug that protects them from pests like flies and mosquitos. In the winter, I would just sponge it down and wait for him/her to cool down then put a cooler (a special blanket for a horse that has just worked hard). Later you can put a thicker blanket on, like when he is totally back to normal. In the summer I would do the same thing (put the cooler on) then put on the protective sheet or just nothing. My horse doesn't use a rug int the winter. I hope this helped you.
Q: How to clean coral velvet correctly?
Hand washing: first to the container into the warm water of about 30 degrees Celsius, and adding amount of neutral detergent; then the carpet in the container to soak, soak for about 20 minutes, then gently rub repeatedly, the blanket stains released to sewage; reuse of water repeatedly washed clean, squeezed out of the water. Finally, a dry in the shade, not exposed to the sun.
Q: So, I've seen on the internet about these rugs that is practically all you need all year round. It consists of 3 layers: a protective sheet, an outer shell and a reversible quilted blanket. I have only seen a few of these on the internet and none in the UK. Do you think these would be worth investing in? And would I be able to find them in the UK?Thanks in advance (: xo
I've seen them advertised in the UK but off hand can't remember where - Rideway? Derby House? IIRC they are expensive. You could probably use three equivalent rugs and pay less for them but they wouldn't match prettily. Depends whether you want economy or looks. On the basis that two or three thin layers are warmer than one thick one they should be a good idea. However, I don't have direct experience of this 3 in 1 rug. I've been at it for long enough to prefer economy as long as the performance is satisfactory. Along with others at the yard I use a Morrison's First Home duvet as an under layer indoors when it's very cold.
Q: How do you prevent the carpet from static electricity?
In theory, to spray carpet is also possible, because it can increase the humidity of textile carpet, but I think the softener is not expensive, so the use of softener, is used for comfort, other brands do not know how to be.
Q: Any time it rains my carpet feels damp..(no leaks) I have a brick home...Any suggestions?
I think I would check the foundations. It sounds as though you have a moisture barrier problem.
Q: What size rug should I get?
If okorder / .. Rugs are a great way to define living areas within large rooms to make them appear cozy. For instance, a sofa, two chairs and a coffee table could be comfortably arranged atop an 8x10 rug. Then, off in a corner, a reading area with a leather armchair, ottoman, bookshelves and lamp table can be offset by a complementary 5x7 or 4x6 rug. When deciding whether to use two rugs in a room setting, it is best to vary the scale of the pattern and alter the design. The rugs don't have to be identical, but they should match either in color tone or feeling. If your den has a dominant focal point such as a fireplace, it's best to choose a rug with an all-over pattern so it doesn't compete with or distract from the focal point.
Q: What's the fire rating of nylon carpet?
Nylon carpet can be divided into nylon 66 and nylon two 6 kinds of materials, nylon 66 carpet in flame retardant performance is higher than nylon 6., generally speaking, nylon 66 material carpet can reach B1 level, nylon 6 carpet can reach B2 level.
