Q:Hi, I need help with identifying an old rug. A friend of mine, an Englishman who now resides in Florida, possesses this rug. It is white with white tassels, and a black border around the rug itself. The design is quite intriguing as red, black and white are the only colors used. Repeated motifs are a black circle made into quarters, colored in with red, two rows of three black triangles with red dots on them, three sideways flames with lines around them, and what looks like three chickens or three birds, repeated throughout the rug.. My friend was born in Karachi Pakistan in 1965 and this rug was given to his parents by Pakistani friends at the time of his birth...if anyone knowledgeable can help me I.D. this rug, he and I would thank you. We think it may be a Muslim prayer rug...peace. The birds do not show eyes (an Islamic prohibition!)thanksxxxany knowledgeable, serious help would be appreciated.
I've had limited dealings with antique rugs; I used to assist an antiques dealer who dealt with a good number of rugs, including prayer rugs. I do not think from what you are relating that the rug is a Muslim prayer rug. Prayer rugs incorporate the design of a mihrab; that is, the niche in the wall of mosques used to indicate the direction of Mecca, an important consideration in Islamic prayer. If there is no indication of a direction on the rug, it is most likely not a prayer rug. Also, a well-used prayer rug would show signs of wear and tear, particularly wear in the spots where a worshipper knelt for their prayers. If you can see no obvious wear in areas to indicate use, it cannot be an antique. It sounds like a simple household rug of local Pakistani manufacture, not much older than 40 years. The bird design you describe is common, and I have seen it myself in many rugs.
Q:I tried steaming my carpet with a Rug Doctor, and it didn't work, so I bought a Bissell Proheat. I wanted to use up all the cleaner that I bought for the Rug Doctor before I purchase Bissell carpet shampoo for my new cleaner. The shampoo for the Rug Doctor says it's compatible with all carpet cleaning machines, but the Proheat manual says only to use the Bissell products. I'm a little confused here. Should I use the Rug Doctor shampoo or not?
Rug Doctor shampoo for carpets, contains, I'm told, optical brighteners. This additive may be harmful to the carpet if used over and over again as the carpet may tend to pick up a yellow tint. Optical brighteners can be viewed in the carpet with a black light, while in total darkness. If you have a black (ultra violet) light, you might check out your carpet some time. What ever shampoo you decide to use, be careful as this soap is hard to remove from the carpeting using these toy carpet cleaners. They do not use enough water to get a good rinsing/extraction action. Soap left in the carpet becomes a sticky residue that will attract soil and dirt to the carpet fibers. Professional carpet cleaners use large volumes of softened and treated hot water and super vacuum extraction when they perform residential and commercial carpet cleaning. The pro's water is also treated with citric acid to lower the PH of the carpet and to prevent soap residue from staying in the carpet.
Q:has any one had them out to clean your carpet and if so is it worth the money? give me some stories good or bad about them
Used them many times and they are very reasonably priced. If you aren't moving your furniture (which we didn't) make sure they put everything up on blocks so as not to stain the carpets until they dry. It's a normal procedure for them but they can mess up and your wood or fabric that touches the wet carpet will stain it. When they are done your carpets should only be damp and not wet to the touch. If they are wet don't let them leave until the carpets are only damp. Stanley Steemer is a franchise operation so not all franchises are great. I use them for a whole house cleaning but use my own steam cleaner much more often. I have saved a lot of money by owning my own steam cleaning machine which is a Bissell. I can keep up on carpet cleaning routinely as opposed to waiting until the carpets are in dire need. I would recommend after you use Stanley to buy your own cleaner.
Q:Gouache paint stuck on the carpet, how to get rid of?
Can use water soaked sticky paint, the gouache properly dissolved with water after brushing, make up the water with a paper towel dipped in dry. And then use special carpet cleaner, local cleaning. Although it is water-based paint, it should be treated as soon as possible.
Q:Is that wierd? should i do a square rug and fill in more of the room instead?
i would do the square
Q:We have carpet in our kitchen, that's right CARPET! We want the carpet out and purchased some vinyl flooring to replace it. However we just found out that the carpet is GLUED down and therefore a much bigger project to remove it than we once thought. So, we were wondering if the vinyl can be installed on top of the carpet. Like I said the carpet is glued down and it is very low and smooth there is very little give to it when you walk on it.

Q:I have a rug imported from Iran. It is made of wool on a silk backing. My cat was sick on it and some of the color ran—vermilion into cream color. It is getting a bit dingy and I would like to get it cleaned. Is there any way to get the pinkinsh stain out of the cream part. It is a beautiful rug.
If the color ran, your rug was probably made with vegetable dyes rather than chemical dyes. Don't try to clean it yourself, you will make it worse! Take it to a cleaner specializing in oriental rugs and talk to the owner, not the counter clerk. It may be dicey, so ensure you use a professional company.
Q:I am going to pay to have my carpets cleaned. What is your opinion on the best way/method and service? (USA)
You're wasting your money having someone else clean them. You can do it pretty cheap following the following plan. Use a deep/steam cleaner, but only after you've dealt with stains. Otherwise the deep cleaner might help them to set in. I bought my deep cleaner for $100 at meijer. The only way I would have spent more money is if the cleaner had a real good moving brush, but I just use a carpet sweeper to brush stains. To save a bundle of money using the deep cleaner, don't buy expensive deep cleaner detergent. Just use the low-suds laundry detergent you already have at home! I do this every time and it works just fine. To clean up other stains, you might have to look up the source of the stain online. For animal stains, get enzymes that break down the odor-causing chemicals. For red wine, mix detergent and hydrogen peroxide and soak a little. This works really really well at breaking down the tannins in red wine. Peroxide works on some other stains too. Spot Shot is the best I've seen for general spots, it comes in a blue and orange bottle.
Q:Conference room carpet, static electricity is particularly serious, how to remove? How can I get the equipment grounded? What are the specific requirements?
The equipment grounding and grounding equipment, the principle is the same, but the function, the purpose is not the same, specifically: 1, equipment grounding for safety, prevent leakage caused harm to the human body, such as appliances, equipment and electrostatic grounding to equipment because of its various reasons to produce static charge accumulation (such as object friction) release, does not constitute a component jihuai.
Q:Will peroxide remove rust stains from carpet?
Oxiclean, will take out anything !! It works really well for me
