Q: The previous owner of my home put up walls for separate rooms OVER existing carpet in the basement. He/she did not install baseboard along the new walls. I'm planning on replacing the carpet in the basement as well as installing baseboard along the walls. What should I do first? The carpet installer is going to have to cut the carpet from underneathe the walls in order to replace it. Should I wait until after the new carpet is installed or can I go ahead and put the new baseboard in regardless?: You ll have to cut the carpet out and put the base on. Depending in what carpet you put in , the normal distance to leave the base up it just the thick ness of a normal base. Unless you have thin carpet and thick base use a few pcs of scrape.. Doing this will also stop the tracking and sawdust you ll track in on new carpet putting it in.. A couple of draw backs , but its minor.. Newly painted base, the paint isn t cured and can be easily scratched up from the carpet backing. This is hard not to do because of the backing of most carpets. If they are painted be prepared for some minor touch ups . Even care full installers it can happen.. GL

Q: I have a light weight rug on top of a thick wall to wall carpet? I have tried to use padding made for this purpose but it does not work. The rug continues o bunch up and not lay flat.Thanks: I had a rug like this, too..if I left it a week it would move 2 feet sideways. I think it is partly from static between the different materials in the two, and partly the longer tufts of the bottom carpet act as fingers to keep shifting the top one. That sticky rubbery underlay stuff only works on smooth hard floors. I've gone desperate and put long tacks into the corners of the rug, through to the floor. If you use large head ones they are easy to find and pull out sometimes, to vacuum under.

Q: Ok my dinning room table measures 60cm x 40cm how many inches of area rug would i buy to fit and have some space left?is this one way too big 63inches x 94 inches?thanks all.: Use this rule of thumb: Chairs of dining room table should rest completely on the rug when pulled up to the table and allow the chairs to glide over the edge of the rug without catching. The rug you have now is about 5 X 8 if it is 63 inches by 94 inches and that is pretty small for a dining rug. If the flooring under your table is wood consider no rug at all- you may prefer it! You're saying that your table in inches is only 15.75 inches by 24 which isn't even big enough for a dinner plate- are you sure your dining table is that small? Just checking as the measurement you gave may have been a typo? If your dining table seats about 4 people then I suggest at least a 5 x 8 rug.If your table seats only two, I would still go with a 5' x 8' to add color and make the space more interesting. If your table seats 6 then I suggest a rug that is about 8' x10'. If the room is small then no rug at all or consider a room sized rug that fills the whole room, will add color and texture and will actually make the space appear larger instead of cut-up with so many little things. Q: I am looking for a recipe that I can put in a spray bottle. A lot of the homemade concoctions I'm finding are ones that require dumping and rubbing into the stain, which I don't want to do as I have hardwood underneath and I've already overwashed my carpets from when my dogs were puppies. A lot of the store bought cleaners have discolored my carpets. I would like a solution I can spray on and blot up. Thanks: I love to use White Vinegar in a quart squirt container. To that you can add ammonia and a teas of dish soap. I've had the grand kids, puppies, kittens, dogs all have accidents on my carpets and none of these pets were mine. I found the combination of those ingred. work good together whether you have a small carpet cleaner or not. Even plain white vinegar works in some instances. When you clean a stain try to get to it right away if you can. I then use an old large bath towel and do the twist over where you are removing the stain. After you've absorbed the dirt or spill and the old bath towel is dirty it means you've pulled out the stain. Maybe you still need to keep twisting to get more, but in general this works great for me. I dislike the carpet cleaners to just spray on because it leaves a soapy film. Best of luck to you.

I have people coming for the holidays please help.....Thanks Shaye: I would have suggested hair spray, and you said it lightened it, so below are two links. The first link talks about the hair spray, and to saturate the ink stain with it, and what to do next... The other link gives you tips for trying to remove it using nail polish removal. Test this out on a hidden corner of your carpet before using on the stain, to make sure it doesn't pull the color out of your carpet. Best of luck!
