- Q: We have been working out on the carpet in our basement for 6-7 months in the same spot. Now the carpet is rock hard from us working out on it. Is the carpet / padding ruined? Is there something we can do so the carpet doesn't' t get ruined?
- You more than likely have crushed the fibers on the carpet. Depending on the type of carpet you may or may not get them to fluff or come back up. The padding also depends on the quality.A decent pad will come back but I m willing to bet it won t and you ve crush that permanently. Only thing to prevent this in the future id to stop working out on the carpet and onto a hard surface. Puttin a hard mat over the carpet will still crush the fibers. There are tricks to try to get the fibers back. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
- Q: An orange candle spilled on my light burber carpet. I've removed all the wax but now I'm stuck with an orange stain!!! Any suggestions on how I could remove it?
- Hi There is two ways to remove wax from carpet. 1/ Use the edge of a butter knife to carefully scrape off or lift up as much solid wax as you can .Use a dry clean white terrycloth place it over the wax spot then heat it with a iron on low setting because most homes have polyester carpet, and if the iron gets too hot, it'll melt the carpet. Keep checking the spot every ten seconds or so, moving the terrycloth so that a clean spot is on the carpet. 2/ Which is the better way. Use the edge of a butter knife to carefully scrape off or lift up as much solid wax as you can Heat up a full kettle of water and pour it slowly on the carpet at the same time with a wet vac vacuum up the water. Keep on doing this until the wax is removed. For the orange stain I would recommend using a wet vac and slowly pour hot water (almost to the boiling point) on the spot and vacuum it up at the same time (this will open up the dye ports on the carpet fibre releasing the stain. and remove the residue from the carpet). If the stain is still visible than use a little carpet spotter on it or Dawn dishwashing liquid (2 or 3 drops into one cup of water) and repeat step 1. The stain may come back in a few days so you may have to do this a few times. Please DO NOT put anything on the carpet that was not made for carpet. At this point if the stain is still there please call a carpet cleaner. From a carpet cleaner of 14 years
- Q: We received a carpet bid for a room that is $2641.00. The next number is 52.44 installed and carpet only 39.44. I'm assuming this is yards? Does that sound like an average price for a slightly above average carpet?For about 200 square feet, is $7/sq. ft an average cost for tile and $1700 total including materials? Then still I have to pay labor separate. It is a unique tile in a unique shape, not square but rectangular.
- The cost of the tile can vary from .99--? If you are happy with the $7 a square foot, then that is fine. I paid for my tile and then paid 3.50 a square foot for installation. I don't understand the extra money you have to put out for materials? and then to pay labour separately? I would get some estimate from other places...unless this is for the prep work..then it would make sense if that was needed. I strongly suggest you get a written estimate from them and a couple more installers. I like to hire the installers from the place of tile purchase. I cannot help you on carpet..sorry..I have no experience with that.

- I liked the rug you returned, but do not think the rug size is large enough for the room. You do need some colour...try some accent pillows in a deeper colour of the sage on your wall..you will have to be careful on the colours..autumn colours could work well, but keep the reds more of a salsa red...if your paint colour has a grey undertone, then many red shades will not work well with it, but you can go more for the blues and golds/yellows like a mediterranian colour. Curtains (floor length) are a great starting point .... something patterned in the colours you like...light and airy ones that can go over your blinds so you still have the blackout you desire from the blinds. Pick out colours from your curtains to use in the pillow covers and some coloured glass vases or accent pieces. Lamps or scones will add a lot to the room too.
