- It depends on what type of carpet that you choose (the quality) and also the area you live in. You can except for a good quality carpet to pay roughly $2-5 a square foot. Installation, you're looking probably $675 for the whole thing, and about another $300 or so for pad. Generally if there's carpet down there already, the installers will re-use the tack strip in place. It depends on the company that you are going through if their prices on the carpet include pad and installation. The place I work at, for example, the prices listed on carpet are material only. Just makes sure that when you are shopping, they are clear as to what the price includes.

- Hi Blue Eyed Homo, I am a flooring associate that works at The Home Depot, and I know that some rug pads seem to be expensive, especially in your size. I've worked in other departments and been with the company for almost 10 years and I have yet to see a sheet of rubber that will sell in the store other than pan liner for tubs that would work in your situation. Also, you won't find at our store pieces of felt in that size. Plus, felt just won't be able to grip the rug properly especially if you have a hardwood floor. Did you check around your local stores flooring department? I think I may have a less expensive solution for you. Carpet padding, not rug pad, but the kind ppl place under their carpets. It may not look pretty but its made to not be seen anyway and it works great for big area rugs your size. Home Depot sells carpet pad in pre-cut 6ft. by 9ft. rolls or have your flooring associate there cut out a size for you. Bottom line....the carpet pad will be way less expensive than the rug pads we sell, and you'll still have a slip resistant surface for your new area rug for years to come. - Q: we are trying to shampoo our hall carpet, but someone had spilled quite a bit of laundry soap awhile ago and it doesn't seem to go away. Does anyone know a better way to get rid of this big blotch of soap on the carpet?
- Try diluting some vinegar in water and shampooing with that. Vinegar is used to cut oven cleaner cleaning solution making clean up easier, maybe it will work on the soap. My concern is how much water are you putting on the carpet? Saturating it could be damaging the under layer, promoting mold. You might consider cutting out that section, taking it to the sink or tub and running water through it until completely soap free, plot as much as possible out, let air dry and then use double sided carpet tape to reinstall it in the hall. They use carpet tape when installing carpeting when it must be seamed, so it's not a freakish idea.
- Q: Kids took natural fiber rug outside while cleaning hardwood floors. Boom - Super thunderstorm. Next day rug is soaked, its not looking good at all. is there anything I can do to recover it? - There are very thin mats especialy made to stop rugs from running like yours is doing. Sold where ever flooring is sold. They feel tacky but will leave no residue . Placed under the rug they stop the rug from scooting or moving when walked on. Get the type mage for rugs over carpet because some are for rugs over hardwood and rugs over a solid surface. Know your rug size since they come in many sizes and can be cut to fit using scissors. They do loose the tacky feeling over time and you just wash them on a gentle cycle to revive that tackinesss. - Ollie has some nice areas rugs also (if you have that store in your area). Or, pull up the carpet if you have wood underneath. Our carpet was NASTY and we just pulled it up, but beware. It took us 2 solid weekends to pull up the carpet, take out the staples (thousands of them) and wash (3x) and map and glo (3x) the floors. They look good now, but it was a lot of work. Got rugs at Ollie's. Two similiar ones - same colors, different patterns. (Thanks to Yahoo.Answers!) Also, you can use vinegar to clean the carpets. We did that last year. Rent the rug doctor but use a vingear solution. I think 1 c white vinegar to 1 gallon of water. Good Luck!
