Q: I just bought a new roll of Reptile Carpet. I've never used Reptile Carpet before, but I decided that you have to experiment with substrates to see what your reptiles like best. Anyway, I want to know how to clean the carpet. The roll I bought came in a kit with other things made by Zilla (reptile supply brand. and it didn't come with any instructions on cleaning the carpet. I know you can clean it, because I've read online comments on Zilla being a very good brand of carpet because of it's eco-friendly (made out of recycled bottles re-usable by washing). Could tell me how they clean their Zilla Reptile Carpet, or any other brand that is basically that same as Zilla's carpet? I would like to know how you clean it, what detergents/soaps (if any) to use, and how to dry (is it machine dryable, or air dryable?)

Q: What are the best products or methods I can use to remove the stains my my white carpet in my new apartment? Some of the stains are from pets and some of the other stains are just drinks and other liquids that stained.
Hire a professional carpet cleaner. If you have never cleaned carpet before, you don't want your first experiment on a white carpet. Look locally for an established carpet cleaner. If you want to attempt to spot clean the areas be sure to vacuum well first. You can then put a small amount of dish soap in a bucket of water and use a rag to work the stains out. Better to gently work in a circular motion toward the center of the stain and avoid scrubbing too hard or you will fray the carpet fiber. If you use a harsh chemical it can discolor or stain the carpet. Use a clean towel to blot up the water by pressing it on the spot you clean. Try not to over wet the area as excess water can soak into the pad. Be aware that if there is a lot of soil in the carpet, even though you may successfully remove the stains, the clean areas may stand out as spots against the soiled carpet.
Q: are there any home made recipes i can use for removing stains out of the carpet?thanks.
when you're trying to remove a spot, you need to subtract, not add. vaccuum the carpet when it's dry. then use a damp white towel. If this isn't doing much, you can go to non-ammonia windex or rubbing alchohol. avoid any other detergents or over-the counter spot removers, as they can set spots in or cause bleaching(and yes, oxi- labeled cleaners can do that too). some spots are permanent, but if you avoid harsh chemicals, a pro will at least have a fighting chance. Using the harsh chemicals can eliminate that chance.
Q: Just bought new carpet tiles and my husband wants a little more cushion and wants to try out putting a carpet pad under the tiles. Is the possible?

Q: I just refinished our hard wood floor and want to put down an area rug. Will the new woven backings hurt the finish?
To be honest, yes they will. My in laws have beautiful walnut hardwood floors throughout their 3600 sq. ft. home and they placed their first area rug, and when they went to clean under it only a week later, there were faint markings that they were unable to buff out. Their solution? Non slip foam on a roll that can be found either where rugs are in the store, or in the dishes/dish drainers and silverware organizers aisle. They got thick enough foam, and put it in all four corners, and three in the middle, and have been so successful that they've gotten more rugs. They have a small dog, who causes enough damage just running around on it, so this solution seems to have helped. I hope you are as lucky as they were! ; )
Q: I am looking at the prices of rugs and I just want to know what they are used for and when you would use them etc. I am from the UK by the way.:) thanks in advance! x
Under rugs are for extra warmth underneath another rug, usually a stable rug. They can also be used under turnout rugs but can become damp, so are not suitable for horses on full time turnout.
Q: I've never heard of carpet tile. How do you install them and what are the advantages/disadvantages compared to a roll of carpet? Are the tiles cheaper? Easier?
recently put carpet tile in my son's room, they look soooo cute because its only around the foot of the bed, the rest are tiles. so for a small spot/area advantages: it looks cute/contemporary-ish disadvantages: it moves alot. so my question is how do you keep it in place? so if i had a plan to keep it nailed to the floor i would vote yay for the carpet tiles.
Q: Our cat pees on our rug and we don`t know why. The main part is we can`t get the smell of the rug. We have this huge piece of tinfoil and it says that he would be scared of it and not even walk on it but he walks right over and starts biting at it. Now that the tinfoil is there he won`t pee on the tinfoil but he finds a new spot on the rug. We spray this stuff on the rug that we got from our vet but it would take like 10 bottles of it to take the pee smell off. Is there anything that you tried that takes up smell our anything you think is good to use? We are thinking off letting him be an outdoor cat so he will pee out there but we are not sure. We also have a we also have one of those squirt bottles that we filled up with water so if we catch him then we can squirt him. But we still need help!
You have a couple of things to do. 1. Your cat pees on the rug because there is already the smell of cat urine in and on the rug. He will continue to do this as long as that rug is in your premises. The rug must be removed and the floor underneath assessed. If the floor underneath has any odor, he will pee on it so, that floor would have to be replaced. 2. The most important thing is the fact that since you have a male cat, he be neutered. Neutering should occur at the age of six months and just before he is sexually mature. If he is allowed to reach maturity and then neutered, if he has any ideas about sex, he will spray after being neutered. This is an individual thing. The majority of male cats won't spray but, you must neuter at six months. 3. If there is any urine odor in the house, your cat will spray. Unfortunately, this is the way it is. All the things that you have thought about will not work. It is just that simple. Sad but true. Neutering of the male is the most important thing. 4. In an attempt to retrain him to be a clean cat, lock him in a bathroom with his litter box and food and do this for a number of days. This retraining process may work and may not work but, it is worth a try. I wish you every luck with this problem. It is a difficult one. It is also not the cat's fault. He is only doing what comes naturally.
Q: I want to redo my basement but getting new carpet is so expensive! Right now I have a really ugly green carpet with red and light yellowish squares. My kids want to make it in to a more loungey basement so the carpet is gonna be really hard to work with. Is there a much cheaper alternative to carpet or even any ideas as to how we can blend it in or make it work? We really dont want to use the colors in the carpet for anything in the basement. The basement is very very big so even semi-cheap things might be expensive. Thank you!
Unless you install some thing yourself such as carpet squares , laminate ,vinyl tile squares, on the average when you have some one install flooring, carpet is one of the cheapest flooring materials. So to keep costs in check pick some thing you can do and for a basement carpet of some kind is the warmest. So consider carpet squares and do it yourself. Sheet vinyl isn t a DIY er job but vinyl squares is a DIY er job and use area rugs for the kids. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.. GL
Q: Would it not look good if I got the duvet and curtains in pink and got a pink rug? does pink go with aqua? any other suggestions? By the way, my furniture is tan.ThanksAnna
I'll assume you mean wall-to-wall carpeting. You might look at a grey rug, maybe a medium to light grey. Not necessarily very exciting, perhaps, but I suggest that because carpet is hard to change. Once it's in, it's probably going to stay in for a while. Paint colour is relatively simple to change, and grey goes with many colours. Pink can go with aqua as long as you choose the right shades of both. It would have a sort of tropical feel to it and would look best with other colours that are light and bright. Tan is not going to go too well with pink, probably, but has a better chance of looking okay with aqua. Wouldn't be my first choice of a colour combo but could be all right. Grey would go well with tan and aqua.
