Q: my car recently (2 weeks ago started making a knocking noise like a chatter and i hear it coming from the engine. my mechanic said my main bearings are failing. he says the engine will last a couple years if i use a heavier weight oil. 2 years seems long. is that right?
It sounds resonable but other than the how else did he verify that the bearings are failing? Main Bearing Noise. A loose main bearing produces a dull knock heard every other revolution when the engine is under heavy load. If all main bearings are loose, a loud clatter will be heard. Low oil pressure can also accompany this condition. Causes that can produce a knock in tight bearings are oil that is too thin, or no oil at the bearing. Do you have low oil pressure? Have you ever run the engine low on oil? I would try the heavier oil before doing any other work.
Q: I'm getting some ABEC 5 bearings, but I don't know if I need them sealed or shielded. Right now I'm a beginner so I'm just cruising with the occasional hill if that makes a difference in what I need.
Get ones with removable shields. If the bearings are sealed, you can't clean or lube them, so you throw them out and get new ones.
Q: Can anyone explain what the symtoms of main bearings being bad versus rod bearings? I think I have a slight rod knock and am going to try and replace the bearings but I wanted to know if I have to replace the main bearings too or if there is a way to know. Also does anyone know if I can replace the main bearings on my car without having to pull the engine out? I know I can do this for the rod bearings by taking oil pan off and replacing them...I have a 1996 honda accord LX
Learn from this!!!! Bearing failure, for the most part, is from the use of inappropriate oil!!!! You should be able to access all bearings without removing the engine, but, you will have to remove the front pulleys and dampener. Bearings fail under high heat, or under sludgy oil passageways. If you remove your oil filler cap, and turn it over. THe underside reflects the condition of the whole engine internally. If it is brown or black waxy or flaky, your passageways will look the same. Read your owner's manual for the EXACT specification of oil to use in Honda. The conatainer should read 'Designed for use in Honda' or 'approved for use in Honda. I, personally, would never use anything but Mobil One or ELF oil that meets honda spec's. Usually, it's the rod bearings that begin making noises. They are the easiest to replace. Good Luck!!! GET WISE!!! Before working on this, use butyl cello-solve to de-sludge the engine and clean out the oil galleys. The oil drain should then remove the offending culprit that caused the damage!!!
Q: like anything around the house or cheap
graphite okorder )
Q: I own a pair of Mission Axiom A.3 roller hockey blades and it says on their website that all the wheels are MISSION CSX indoor/outdoor 78A but when i look at the wheels on the skates, they say they are all different sizes, unfortunately i am not at home so i can not tell you which sizes they are.The mission website also says that the bearings are MISSION ABEC 5 but i don't see any websites that sell those bearings so what other kind is the best and fastest kinds of bearings to buy?I just started getting into roller blading/roller hockey im not really playing roller hockey but i go skating a lot and like to go really fast so i don't really know a whole lot about skates but would like to learn what kind of wheels/bearings i should buy, thanks for any help.
ABEC okorder staff are quite knowlegable.
Q: So do skateboard bearings fit into scooter wheels?
Yeah they should, skateboard and Rollerblade bearings are the exact same bearings, assuming razor scooters take Rollerblade wheels, then yes they would. Go for the swiss bearings....you'll be floating!!! lol
Q: I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima Se, when i jack tha car up (on the driver side) my wheel is loose, obvisouly with the lug nuts screwed all tha way in, i talked to a few people, but they sed it could be my Wheel Hub or my bearings, i don't know, i just don't wanna get robed blind, wat would be a reasonable amount of money + labor to fix either tha hubs or tha bearings on tha one side???
You may need both. The bearing on these cars are pressed into the spindle. The hub, which the tire bolts to, is pressed into the bearing assembly. I have had to replace both many times because the bearing gets so bad, that it starts to eat away at the hub. Unfortunately the only way to find out how extent the damage is, is to take it apart and look at the hub. If the hub looks good, all you need is the bearing. However, since the unit is pressed into the spindle, I would not recommend it for a do-it-yourselfer.
Q: I think I have bad front wheel bearings...I'm about to go outside and lift my car up and check... Where's a good place online to get good parts at a good price?
www.okorder - The best place you can get wheel bearings and any car part.
Q: Convert bearings to azimuths?A) 195° 58' B)146° 11' C) 167° 23' d) 278° 59'and explanation on how to convert would help a lot too!
In marine navigation, a bearing is the direction one object is from another object, usually, the direction of an object from one's own vessel. In aircraft navigation, a bearing is the actual (corrected) compass direction of the forward course of the aircraft.
Q: So, I guess I need to drop the subframe, crossmember and suspension.I can't get the oil pan out...If you know anything, help!
Make sure to take the side bolts out of the oil pan. Believe there 12 oil pan bolts 6 side bolts. You can do the rod bearings in the car meaning take the cap off(Do only 1 at a time mark an arrow pointing to the front of the engine if there are no marks on it) But only do one at a time. Rotate the crank so the rod is a straight shot to you, take cap off. Push rod up enough to remove install new bearing. Make sure to put bearings in one way, only fit one way. After installing bearing onto rod, make sure it is flush pull down on the rod itself to seat it in place. Do not use the rod cap the bolts to seat it first. Then once the rod looks like it is in position, then place cap on toque to specs. Then rotate crank if possible to go to next one. Do the next one in line, dont skip around or you may loose track BUT!!!! If you are doing this for the knocking noise at engine start-up, its the piston slap is what is causing that noise it is normal per GM
