Q: i know a lot will make them rust, but some? i was going to the store and there was a puddle, like 1inch deep, i thought it was less than that but apparently it wasn't. so are my bearings ******?
just so y'all know, i meant longboard bearings... but i don't blame you guys. this site just straight said **** YOU *****!! LOL!. so yeah, my bad for wasting your time. but then again you probably didn't have **** to do. i would've stopped in my tracks and said this ***** dumb... especially if i thought he was talking about CAR BEARINGS. you a dumb ***** if you worry about car bearngs getting rusted...
Q: got a subaru outback 97, 174k is great all round except for is making whump whump noise that gets faster as car speeds up, squealing noise coming from wheels not assciated with braking or acceleration. it gets wobbly if the car gets to 70mph and when you reverse it makes a grinding noise. also in low gear it clatters from the engine somewhere, but stops doing that as soon as car is going and warmed up.anyone know whats happening, how much do you think it'll cost to fix if you do?thanks,
You have enough going on that the only useful answer needs to come from a good mechanic that inspects the car and gives it a test drive. The bearings are an easy check. Bad ones make a nice consistent noise when you give the tire a spin on the lift. At 174k, you're due. Before you have any work done, get the mechanic's estimate on bearings and whatever else is giving you whump, squeal, wobble, grind, and clatter. You may decide to say bye bye and think about a new or newer Subaru.
Q: I'am reading a book written in the 20's and he mentions reciprocal bearings but google hardly recognizes the term. But after some hard-earned googling I think we refer to them today as internal shaft bearings. The way he describes them is: reciprocal bearings are used for reciprocating pumps, and similarly used in on the connection rods of large internal-combustion engines, and in many mechanisms operated by cams. Thanks.
internal shaft bearing = internal shaft bearing JUST EXACTLY WHAT YOU WERE SAYING IN YOUR QUESTION !!!
Q: what is the advantage and disadvantage of water-lubricated bearings?
The main advantage of a water cooled bearing is you can use the a portion of the water from the pump discharge to lube the bearings. That way you can always be assured of the lubricating fluid supply and do not have to relay on another pump. Some pumps do use another source, especially if the water being pumped is dirty, but it is still cheap and non-contaminating if some leaks into the pumped fluid. However, water is not always a good lube especially on pumps with high speeds and/or mechanical loads. Water is not very viscous and becomes less so with increased temperature. Even small 3600 rpm pumps will use oil for lubrication. Some large, high pressure pumps will have their own oil pumping and cooling system for the bearings.
Q: I have recently purchased a longboard with abec 5 bearings. I have a regular board, with abec 7 bearings. I plan to use the longboard more, and i want to no if it will work to use the regular boards bearings for the longboard. Anybody know?
It should not matter. And correction... The less balls in a bearing the faster it would roll because each ball doesnt need to turn as much to make it all turn. Anyway... Abec doesnt matter much to do with skateboarding it just means how small the tiny allowances in each bearing is... So it doesnt affect skateboarding much. Its mostly for machinery... BUT yes the bearings should work fine for the longboard.
Q: I cant put them in! I can only put it on succesfully on the inside of the wheel. The bearing wont go in the outside of the wheel(the logo side). just saying i use the method where you put it on the truck axis and press down with your wheel
Do what i do put in the bearing and push it in slightly with your fingers. Then get a screw driver turn it upside down (sharp side facing up) get a hammer and gently nail it in it will stay in and shouldnt even be dented or scrached!
Q: And can u also tell me how to clean abec 9 bearings? and grease them?
The preferences are based on what works for you. For cleaning the bearings, I use lamp oil (desented kerosene) because it cleans out anything. I then wash it out with denatured alcohol which also dries the bearings. If you use a water based cleaner like citrus cleaners, do not soak them overnight since it can damage the bearings. Almost anything works for lubricants. Super light things like the sprays don't last very long. Some people spray them every time they go out. Oils roll quickly right away but are not as waterproof as greases or last very long. Greases are slower at the start but will last a lot longer. Use very little. A drop or two of oil or a few pin head sized blobs of grease.
Q: Im getting bones reds bearings for christmas and i would like to know the kind of difference i will see with them compared to the stock bearings that came with my longboard. Also, should i be worried about lubricating them or will they be fine without it?
the only real difference it will make is that they will spin longer in the air. no noticable difference. they are easier to clean though. the thing that will really make your bearings work better is to get spacers and speed rings, as well as cleaning them with some kind of solvent every month or so, and lubing them afterwards.
Q: I need a new board. What is a good deck, trucks, wheels, and bearings. I'm thinkin an element or girl. What's ur preferance.
deck:chocolate, great pop, weight, and concave. trucks:thunders or ventures, they last really long. wheels: darkstar wheels because they never flatspot bearings: doesnt really matter. id go with bones swiss for best but luckys are really good and cheap 2.
Q: i have a 20 kent bmx bike. The bearings in the frame got messed up some how and now the pedal crank moves back and forth. Can I get these the bearings or do I have to get a new frame?
Count the number of bearings you need and take them to the local bike shop and get a whole set, don't mix the old and new ones use all new.
