- bones makes many types of bearings. Some are ABEC rated and the better ones are not. The ABEC rating is for vibration in high speed machines that run at speeds similar to skating over 200 mph. They are not the best design for skating but companies make a lot of them for other reasons and it is cheaper to get them than a design that is custom made. Bones, Twin Cam, Zero Drag, and some other companies have custom designs for their better bearings.

- Actually, the ABEC rating is quite misleading. technically, if you get an ABEC 5, it won't be slower or faster than ABEC 7. You see, ABEC is a strength rating. as long as you don't get like cheap walgreens bearings or something, you'll be fine. but you'll never notice the difference between 5 or 7. I highly recommend REDS bearings. Not too expensive and very nice. the bearings that are like $25.00 and up are just a waste.

- Wheels dont usually come with bearings. So yes. Or you could just use the bearings out of the wheels that you already have. Often times inexpensive wheels are slow due to bad quality urethane being used(im talking generic Ebay wheels.) Here are a few options that are quality/inexpensive. - Q: I had found out bones reds are one of the most best bearings for the money, and lots of mates have them so I bought some bones red's from Trademe (the New Zealand version of ebay) and they were real and all. as soon as I got them I rode them all around. but after about a week they were worse than my abec 3's. So I changed Back to them. While I was at the skate park People were saying that bones reds just need wearing into. so I cleaned them by soaking them in turps then putting speed cream on them. I have been skating heaps this month. but still not beta...???So any advice or help of what im doing wrong would be appreciated
- Thats strange. I've had the same Bones bearings for years and they spin just as good as they ever did since the day i bought them. If it;s not to late I would say go back and exchange them or do like your friends said and try to break them in. But I can't imagine ever having to break in a good set of bearings...good luck

- Q: I recently decided to clean my bearings. A friend told me to remove them, clean them with paper towel to remove a majority of the dirt, and then soak them in a lubricant (WD40) for about a day. I was wondering if this was an effective way to clean your bearings. I also heard of people completely taking the bearing apart and cleaning each individual bearing.
- Soaking them in a specialized bearing wash should be good. Taking them apart is the best way, but is a pain, and you could end up breaking them. Using a bearing wash (which you should find at any place that sells roller hockey skates) will do the job, and is quick and easy.
