- Q: About eight months ago, my girlfriend's front wheel bearings/hubs on her 1998 Chevrolet Malibu started making grinding noises. The mechanic said that it was the front hubs, so I had them replaced with aftermarket (read: cheap) ones and the noise was gone. A dealer OEM replacement and repair would have run me $650, but the aftermarket pieces only ran me $80/each, and labor was about $150 (iI think). Eight months later, or about last week, the hubs are grinding again.I am in Minnesota, so I was thinking that maybe it's partly due to the weather and the road conditions, but eight months, even for an aftermarket hub, just seems a bit ridiculous. If it were up to me, I'd sell the car and get another one, but it's my girlfriend's car, so it stays (and I'll wait for the repairs to keep piling up).The hubs took about 9,000 miles before going bad.
- some aftermarket bearings are junk. i've seen this numerous times. if your not going with OEM GM parts then replace them with ones from reputable parts places like napa auto. and ask what kind of warranty they have. also be sure they are installed by a trained professional with the right tools, because they can be damaged if not pressed in properly.also be sure the wheels are balanced, because vibration will significantly shorten the bearings life expectancy.

- Q: I have a 2001 Dodge Durango and it has been making a roaring/humming noise when I drive usually it gets loud when I get up to 15-20 mph. The rpm's are fine and it doesn't overheat so I suspected my wheel bearings. This morning, I jacked up the front and tested both tires. The passenger side had a lot of play in it and when I spun the wheel, it made a slight grinding noise as if something was rubbing. - is almost the same, the only diff is how the wheel is opened up,,, i believe they seal the bearings so you will haft to press them out i think,, if not then then its the same,,, ive only came across 2 types of 4wheelers that had to do that,, they were polarius models that floated on the water,,, now lookin at yours its the same as a car,,, after removing the wheel you take off the spindle ( for a car its called a rotor) then pick out the bearing clean out the grease add new grease, and pack the bearings with grease befor you put it in,, the more grease the better lol

- Q: I have a CR80, when i sit on the bike somtimes i will hear a cracking noise. If i put the bike on a stand (with back wheel off the ground) I can move the swingarm up and down without the shock moving. So my final guess would be shot bearings??
