- Q: I have these skateboard wheels with bearings that have been used for FOREVER, they have probably been in these wheels for more than two years. And this skateboard has been left out in the open all of the time, so the bearings are really really dirty but not too rusted so I am going to try to use them in some different wheels. I have tried to get them out with a screwdriver and using the axel on one of my trucks, but it is so stuck in there with dirt probably that it makes it really difficult to get out, even when I apply a lot of pressure. I don't think it is physically possible for me to get it out with just human force, or maybe it's just me, idk, I have tried and tried and I've already broken one nail trying to get these stupid bearings out and I just want an easier way. What other things can I try to get them out of the wheels? I think they are still usable, probably they just need cleaning.

- Kyle Take off the wheel Look at the bearing, there should be a 4 digit number like 6008 That's your bearing size If there's no number you have to measure the outside and inside diameter with a vernier caliper and plug the size into google to get which bearings you need. But probably standard skateboard bearings most likely.

- yes you should keep them level,because if you dont,it will wear the bearings.
- Q: I cant put them in! I can only put it on succesfully on the inside of the wheel. The bearing wont go in the outside of the wheel(the logo side). just saying i use the method where you put it on the truck axis and press down with your wheel
- Do what i do put in the bearing and push it in slightly with your fingers. Then get a screw driver turn it upside down (sharp side facing up) get a hammer and gently nail it in it will stay in and shouldnt even be dented or scrached!

- phosters answer is correct on how the bearings look different as far as performance goes sealed bearings spin a lot long and spin very smooth. sealed bearings require little maintenance and last a long time. unsealed bearings should be cleaned and re greased at least every couple of months.

- Not sure which ones you are talking about here. If you are talking about the front bearings. Do you mean for one or both sides. Also remember this on alot of vechicals. Some are what are called pressed on and others are not pressed on. The ones that are not pressed on are alot cheaper to replace and if you and a friend are a back yard mechanics. Both of you should be able to do the job.
- Q: 2002 mercury cougar wheel bearings need to be changed, what tools do I need? And I don't think it matters but it is a 2.5 liter.
- Jack ,lug wrench alittle muscle caliber remover, bolts vary with different makes, pop caps off and remove cotter pin remove nut and pull rotor off, outer bearing will come out first and the inner is held in by a seal, you could just get new seals or be careful with the ones you have, pack new bearings with new bearing grease inner and outer, put bearing grease on spindle install inner and tap on new seal make sure you note which way you take off the inner seal. install rotor put nut on tighten nut tight and then back it off half turn. same to other side. Hint pick up a Haynes manual for your year car it will assit you start to finish.
- Q: My high flange track phil wood hubs need the bearings replaced and i was going to go to a bearing manufacture i know of as opposed to having a bike shop order it. Are they standard 6000 sealed bearings or something different?
- Phil Wood will do it for you for $40. There are several variations on the hub designs that prevent the ability to give you precise instructions here UNLESS you have the Field Servicable type. If this is the case, just stick a 5mm hex wrench into each end of the axle and twist. The axle will come out and you can replace the bearings.
