However, water is not always a good lube especially on pumps with high speeds and/or mechanical loads. Water is not very viscous and becomes less so with increased temperature. Even small 3600 rpm pumps will use oil for lubrication. Some large, high pressure pumps will have their own oil pumping and cooling system for the bearings.

- A hub job shouldn't be 2400. If you have a jack you can check the play of your bearings. Lift up the car and grab the tire at the top and bottom. Push the top and pull the bottom simultaneously. If it moves quite a bit, your bearings are most likely bad. I agree with both of the previous answers. Verify that with another shop. Then if it's true, find a shop that lets you bring your own part. Get them from the junkyard and you're good to go. Oh btw, to answer your original question, yes you can drive with bad bearings. If you wait too long though, it won't be good. Once you start hearing a weird noise from the front end, better get that changed immediately. But if not, it still needs attention, but no emergency. You can tell their bad because when you hit a bump your car kind of jerks left or right.

- Trucks are the metal axles and plates that mount to the board. They come in different sizes depending on what type of riding you plan on doing- the longer the axle the less turning radius you'll have. Bearing are small discs that contain tiny metal ball (bearings) that allow you wheels to spin freely once they are mounted on the truck-there are 2 bearing rings for each wheel (inside outside) . These also come in all types and generally the more expensive the bearings the more spin/speed you'll get. Hardware merely refers to the bolts nuts that hold the trucks to the board. - It's the law. More properly said, cars with friction bearings cannot be received in interchange. This restricts them to home lines. The only time you're likely to see one is on a piece of vintage rolling stock. Outmoded and, frankly, dangerous. They are also susceptible to vandalism. So, no matter how carefully maintained, it will likely never move off of the tracks it now operates on. There may be dispensation of some sort available for a one time, one direction move, but I wouldn't bet on it. So, its gets transported piggy back or on a heavy duty, drop center, flatbed highway truck. Either way, it's gonna take some $$$.
