Q: I'm thinking about buying an 87 Fiero for $650 but it needs rod bearings... I wanna know if it's worth it to buy it.
Engine would have to come out of the car to replace rod bearings so there would be a fair amount of labor involved in just getting the engine out. Its also unlikely that just the rod bearings are bad, usually if the rod bearings are bad so are the rod journals on the crank and then you have to wonder about the rest of the engine. If you like the car otherwise I would figure on getting a rebuilt engine. Price out a rebuilt engine and then the cost to install it and use that number to decide if you are going to buy the car. If you do get the car take it to a shop and have em pull the motor and have a look at it. If its worth fixing have em fix it if not you are not out anything extra since you would have had to remove the old one to install the rebuilt one anyway.
Q: I'm asking this because like every time I googled it, it came up with answers from like 2-3 years ago.. So basically I'm just wondering if it is still not good for them... Also I would like to know what cleaners i should use for mine, and types of lubricant.. Thanks so much.
WD-40 will atract any sort of dirt dust and will slow down your bearings. You should take each bearing apart and place it in something like nail paint remover, then buy some lube from your skate shop! works everytime
Q: I need to change/ repack the wheel bearings but i've never done it before but I am mechanically inclined enough to do it. Just need to know if theres any secret steps to follow. Any info would be great!!!
not hard, just get some grease in your palm and push the bearing into it. you just want to make sure the grease goes through the cage.
Q: What material used in bearings? Describe the composition of elements.?
Sn % Sb % Cu % PbApplications 933.53.5-Light and medium IC engine big end bearings 8610.53.5-Light and medium IC engine main bearings 80113.06General purpose heavy bearings (lead increases plasticity) 601028.51.5Heavy duty marine engine bearings, electrical machines 40101.548.5Low cost, general purpose, medium duty bearings
Q: I have a 2001 Dodge Durango and it has been making a roaring/humming noise when I drive usually it gets loud when I get up to 15-20 mph. The rpm's are fine and it doesn't overheat so I suspected my wheel bearings. This morning, I jacked up the front and tested both tires. The passenger side had a lot of play in it and when I spun the wheel, it made a slight grinding noise as if something was rubbing. The driver side did not make this noise.1) is this a problem with the bearings?2) if yes, what goes into replacing them?3) is there a website that gives step-by-step instructions for replacing them?
2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive??
Q: i had abec 5s bearings on my longboard, and a friend told me that bones swiss black bearings would be faster. i dont do tricks on my board i just cruise around. so i bought them for about 50 bucks. i put them on my sector 9 wheels and i spun them. with the abec 5s my 2 back wheels spun for about 35 seconds each and the 2 front ones spun for about 20. now they all spin for about 15 seconds each with the swiss bearings! and these are supposed bones swiss! are they messed up? do i have to grease them a bit first? or am i using the wrong wheels? until then im using my Abec 5s
i dunno anything about skateboards but the first ones pretty! ....xx
Q: how can i loosen the nuts that hold the bearings in on my hyper bike co bike?
Which bearings?. Are they the wheel bearings, the crank bearings, the headset bearings, or the pedal bearings?
Q: and what are they used for?
honestly i dont remember all to well, i had a boyfriend in hs that skated and he would take me to skate with him and i havent gotten on a board for years, lol. or go to ur local skate shop. :)
Q: Im not sure how to open it up.
I just lubed up my skateboard bearings today. Sometimes you cant remove the shield (the yellow-gold part in the picture). If the shield is removable you can take a razor blade and stick it in the tiny gap between the shield and the bearing wall and lift up the shield to expose the ball bearings. you should do it carefully so you can put the shield back when you're done. If you're doing this to lube up the bearings, drop in a couple drops of lube and pinch the bearing and spin it so the lube coats the inside. then brush the ball bearing with a q-tip to remove excess lube.
Q: I soaked them in alchohol overnight and then dried them out for 30 minutes and i blew on them and stuff. then i applied 3 drops of lubricant to each bearing with bones speed cream. i also removed the bearing spacers. they seem slower, maybe by 20 seconds when i spin them. i havent skated them yet since i cleaned them. possibly i should put back the spacers? i have bones spf wheels with bones super swiss 6 bearings.
yes when you clean out your bearings they slow down a bit at first, they shouldn't take long to break in once you start skating, although it might seem like your going slower because your bearings will be silent compared to before
