Q: having trouble wont go on properly
I don't think the goose-neck bearings are bad, I think all it needed was lubed and tightened up. but if you wanta spend ur money on bearings you never needed in the first place, or if you listened to a liar motorcycle dealer that told you you needed them, only because he wants to make money by selling you new bearings then there's nothing i can do. just remind me to never buy a used bike from you I hate motorcycle dealers, OOOOOO I HATE THEM AGGGHHHHHHH HATE THEM soooo bad!
Q: I was going to repack my wheel bearings on an older trailer for the first time. I didn't even need a wrench to take the nut with the codder key through it off. Is this normal? There is no way the nut could have loosened before because the codder key wasn't bent or anything. should I reassemble the bearing with the nut being slightly loose like it was? Thanks for any replies....
Yes you should keep the nut a little loose. This allows for the proper clearance. If you over tighten or leave the bearing to loose. You will have premature bearing failure. After you repack the bearings, make sure you install a new grease seal. VERY important! To tighten the bearings, very easy. What you need to do is... 1) Put the rotor or drum on and tighten the nut with your fingers as tight as you can, while pushing the rotor as far back as possible. 2) Next use a pair of pliers in your hand or a socket with a small ratchet. I preffer pliers so I don't over tighten the nut. With 1 hand tightening the nut and the other hand spinning the rotor or drum. Keep snugging and loosening the nut until you get all the play out of the bearing and it is fully seated. This will take 5-6 time to be sure. Continual spinning of the rotor. after the bearing feels seated fully and you tighten the nut with moderate pressure using the pliers. Until you can't spin the the nut any tighter with out forcing it to hard. The just back it off 1/8 of a turn. Thats it. Pretty easy once you have done a few. ---Mechanic for 13 years. Bearings last me over 120,000 miles.
Q: do 98 ford windstars have front wheel bearings?
yes... but not like older cars.. front wheel drives they are part of the axle... you have to pull the axle and have them removed just about as easy to replace the axle
Q: If i get new bearings for my 88 camaro with a 305 tbi, about how much will it cost and how long could it take?
A good rebuilt motor already put together by a good company with a good warranty will cost you around $1,300 for your car.It would be worth it to get a rebuilt motor.
Q: ok I took apart my bearings, cleaned the shields with water, put about 2 drops of lube in each after letting the bearings sit in a 50% alcohol solution for 10 minutes, put it all back together after drying off the stuff and lubing it. Just rode it today and it seems that the bearngs are making noise.... is this normal???
Don't just let them sit in the solution, you have to shake them around to get the crud out. You can get a Bones Bearing Cleaning Kit, or make your own (Google is your friend here). If I haven't cleaned my bearings in a while, I usually rinse heavily with water to get thick dirt off, then put them in a 90% alcohol solution (50% is a bit low, that's half water) in that Bones cleaning it, shake for ~10 minutes, and then do it again, then wait until they dry (put them on a heat vent or something), then two drops in each bearing and I spin them to make sure they're quiet before re-assembling the shields and whatnot. If they're still noisy, I put another drop of lube in.
Q: is the lucky or red bone bearings the best for making your skateboard go faster
Last time I checked it was ABEC7 bearings. Shows how long its been since I have bought bearings. Honestly, the brand doesn't matter. ABEC 7s were what thrilled me the last time I had to buy bearings, I have heard of ABEC 9s but don't care to find out because my stick rolls just fine on ABEC 7s.
Q: I am replacing the wheel bearings on the front axle of my 98 cherokee and I want to know if the Timkin brand wheel bearings for $150 each autozone will make a difference over the valucraft ones for $99 each. Is it worth the extra $50?
I okorder
Q: can i make my own ball bearings for hubs, bottom bracket, etc. from a ceramic mug or the like? if its possible, what tools do i need? can i get it done at a machine shop? i would only do this if its cheaper than buying them pre-made, which in case you didnt know, can cost several hundred dollars for a full set.
ball bearings are made from hardened steel, which is a process requiring ovens, and cool down systems, and precision is important, so I think it would cost you more to try to manufacture them yourself. I always go to a bearing company, Look in the yellow pages. they can cross reference ANY bearing and replace them cheap. For instance the ones on my boat were about $30 and they cross referenced them for about $4. Good luck.
Q: i just purchased a boat with a tandem axel trailor. the left rear tire on the way home after about an hour on the road heated up to the point grease was oozing out all over the rim and the hub was to hot to even touch. i tore the bearings out today and was wondering if it was indeed the bearings causing this to heat up or if there is something else i need to do and if it was the bearings what i need to do and how i need yo pack the bearings back in and get this to end the problems. the trailor has trailor brakes but i do not have the trailor hook up in my truck could this have caused this and if so how i could disable the trailor brakes to keep them from catching. thank you for all help
If the heat was caused by the bearings, they should be slightly discolored. On my tandem axle car hauler, I installed grease caps with zerk fittings on them. Before each long trip, I get out the grease gun and give each about 15 pumps. Since yours gets exposed to water, I would pull all and repack, looking for signs of corrosion, pitting or rust, and discoloration. Replace as necessary with new seals. Get the greasable caps.
Q: im trying to open like a bike shop kinda thing, and i was wondering if like any kind of grease or lube will work for bike bearings and the handlebars.? help?
I like molybdenum based or synthetic greases for bearings. They are much lower in friction than other greases. You can buy it auto parts stores in large cans for little money. You will notice a difference when pedalling with lower grade greases. Do not put any grease on handlebars! There is too much chance at slipping under load and causing an accident. The only time you put anything in there is if you are assembling a carbon handlebar into a carbon stem or a carbon seatpost into a carbon frame. You need to use a specific carbon fiber assembly grease. This stuff has anti-slip solids in it but prevents the bonding of the carbon fiber epoxies over time.
