- Q: Every year my family spends a week on a house boat at Lake Powell where it can get extremely hot in the day time. I'd like to build a mist system using pvc pipes and mist spray heads to help cool us down.I'm not sure what kind of water pump to buy? I've looked at different kinds from submersible to non-submersible, all with different amounts of PSI and GPM. - I am assuming your water source will be the lake …. I would be looking at a submersible pump possibly a pond pump but you need to know what the “lift” is going to be …from the point where you string the mister to the pump {possibly a 15 foot lift} and a pump that will give you at least 25psi. Because you are going to have back pressure, the submersible will reduce the risk of burn out. Also you need to build a simple enclosed container this pump can sit in, with at least a 4”water inlet hole covered with mosquito netting, nylon hosiery, or something to filter the water….otherwise you will constantly be removing the mister heads to clean

- Sounds like a bladder tank issue. The bladder gets potential energy when the pump fills the tank. When you open a faucet for water, the potential energy stored in the bladder will push the water out of the tank without the need of the pump coming on until the tank is almost empty. You should be able to rock the tank when the pump first comes on to see if it is light weight, as it would be when almost empty. If not then there's your problem. When the pump ends its cycle is when the tank will be at its heaviest. Again: The tank should be full when the pump is not running and almost empty just before the pump comes on. The water pressure would behave as you describe if the bladder tank is not functioning properly.

- Vertical pump power is small, the weight is limited, the pipeline vibration is limited, the general rubber shock absorber will be enough. It's no use. I'm sure you can't use the spring shock absorber.General construction, 7,5KW below is rubber shock absorber, above is spring shock absorber

- most likely the pressure switch is stuck/corroded. this is a common problem with on demand type pumps.try tapping on the pressure switch to see if it will work.if the pump is installed properly,the motor should be at the top and the pump and switch will be at the bottom.i consider these pumps disposable. expect to replace it every couple of years.

- Q: My '95 Ford Ranger has had the sound of a bearing going bad in a pulley for about two months. Finally this weekend I started it up and it must have locked up, the belt was squealing really loud and snapped. So, now the water pump pulley has rubber chunks on it, which would make me think that is the bad pulley. But the pulley spins perfectly, really smooth. The alternator pulley on the other hand does not spin perfectly. It is not really hard to spin, but it does not spin smoothly. And the alternator pulley is real clean, no rubber on it at all. Any thoughts? I was thinking of buying a cheap belt and putting it on there, have someone start the truck and watch under the hood to see which is bad.
- First, you should have checked it when it started, instead of thinking it will go away. Well, it went away. Go ahead and buy the new belt. before you put it on, lubricate the idler pulley bearing. After you put it on, have someone else start the car while you eyeball the water pump pulley and the alternator pulley. Whichever one that appears to be skipping is the bad one.
