- Q: I got a water pump replaced a few month back, ( i own a 95 Honda civic) i have a wierd muffled rattle coming from that part of my car, i was told by a mechanic that it sounds like a bearing is dried out, he says that it wont affect the water pump itself but the ratlle will remain ... is this true . . .
- The pump will eventually start leaking because of the bearing. I would get it fixed. Better than overheating on the side of the road, and having to replace a head gasket, too.
- Q: A guy i know changed the Water pump on my 02 Chrysler Sebring with a 2.7 in it because it was leaking coolant, when i got it back the leak was fixed but now there is a ticking noise. He thinks that the Timing Chain Tensioner needs to be replaced... can i get some opinions here? does he sound correct?

- Q: My water stopped working and my tank emptied. I replaced the pressure switch and the gauge. It still didn't work. The well is about 110'. I pulled the pump and replaced it (1/2 HP, 10 gpm, 2-wire). It still doesn't work. The old pump was 15 years old. The one before only lasted 7 years. The water has a lot of sediment. I have never done this before, but it seemed straightforward enough. The wires on the pump were not differentiated in any way (same color). Could I have put the wires together incorrectly? Could I have put the switch in wrong? It doesn't click on when the breaker is turned on. What else could be wrong? Could the breaker be bad? It wasn't kicked out.
- Sounds like the vertical check valve between the end of the pump line and the pressure tank is bad and allowing the water to go back down the pipe when the pump isn't running. Papaw
- Q: my car ran hot a few times, its a 2006 chevy impala LS with about 50k miles.I do alot of driving but never had a problem until now. I took it to get an oil change and they said that I need a new water pump. I really dont know what that means but im afraid to drive my car until i get a new pump. i called around a few auto places and no one has the part. I called the chevy dealer and they said part and labor is $600. any suggestions of other places i can check for the part? can i still drive my car in the mean time? is it safe?are water pumps usually that expensive?
- Actually a re-manufactured water pump costs less than $70.00 at any auto parts store. Any private mechanic will change it for a lot less than $600.00. If you don't have a large water pump weep hole leak with the associated loss of coolant do the following: For the time being you can cheat your cooling system's intimate standard 16 PSI (pounds per square inch) by going to Carquest and buying a 4 - 8 lb. radiator pressure cap. Change the cap when the motor and cooling system is stone cold. After installing it try not using your car's air conditioning system. It will raise the systems heat slightly. It's the pressure in the cooling system that causes a higher leak rate of the water pump. Keep an eye on the coolant level in the coolant recovery tank. Get the water pump taken care of before the snow flies!
- Q: The water pump gasket in my '98 Forester (130k) recently began to leak, and I will be replacing it in the next couple days. I noticed a stream of bubbles in my overflow container, though, and am wondering if it might be bad head gaskets making the air bubbles. The bubbles only appear after the engine is warmed up, like after a drive around town - there aren't any bubbles when the engine is cold.Is it possible that these air bubbles are coming from the leaking water pump? I hope so, because I'd much rather replace the pump than the head gaskets!
- I have yet to witness a leaky water pump suck air into the cooling system . If you are seeing bubbles in your radiator after the vehicle heats up see if the temperature is also higher [the hot gasses will heat up your coolant and eventually can push your antifreeze to the reservoir tank ] it can result in boil over.I strongly believe you have a bad head gasket that has not entirely blown yet Have the compression checked per cylinder, and for water getting into your oil (it would become a milky brown and become frothy a little bit) if that is all ok, then maybe just maybe a pump sucking air is occurring, though I have never seen it or herd of it before in my entire life.
- Q: It stops and every few minutes and when it stops, it sounds like water is running.
- Ok lets go down the check list. 1) Is your cut off switch working good? Turning on and off at proper set pressure. (I don't know what you may have yours adjusted to. Mine is on at 70 off at 95.) 2) Is your expansion tank (or pressure tank) water logged? Knock on it. Does it sound full or partially full. Full is bad. You will need to shut off the water pump, close off any outgoing ports to the rest of the house, open the drain valve nearest that tank, and press your finger into the shraider valve at the top (the thing that looks like a tire stem valve). Drain the tank only. Then turn the water back on. 3) Do you have water softeners hooked up? Listen closely to the discharge tube. (this may be where it is coming from). IF you hear a leaking it is because the valve spring inside and washers need to be replaced. 4) do you have any other whole house filters? If so check the discharge tubes of them. 5) Do you have a reverse osmosis filter? IF so this is supposed to drain and you will hear it constantly. 6) Look for any water puddles 7) IF all these fail, then replace your water pump.
- Q: We have a 92 cadillac deville, my husband can replace the water pump he justs need to know if you have to jack the motor a little. Please help before our car blows up!!

- Q: I replaced the water pump on my 350 chevy small block with a new water pump and the thing is leaking out of the lower bolt hole on the passenger side. I was told to remove the bolt and coat it with permatex hi tack gasket sealer and reinstall it Any how I'm wondering why there would be a leak there in the first place, any ideas?
- Remove the new pump and gasket. Reclean the steel surface and remove any pieces of the old gasket that might still be attached. That surface needs to be perfect. Apply the recommended sealer after this is done . Either a sealer or anti-sieze compound should be added to the threads. Recheck surface of new pump for any flaws and reinstall. Bolt in a criss -cross pattern and tighten equally , partially tight first and then all of them fully tight.
- Q: old sbc v8 water pump from oreilly's came apart and the fan ate up my serpentine belt, power steering pump pulley, clutch fan obviously, and put 5 holes in my new aluminum radiator. What will they cover? Remanufactured limited lifetime warranty. '78 chevy k10 350 sbc
- the warranty will replace the water pump. the rest is on you my friend. if you had checked the water pump ealier when the bearing first started to make noise this would not have happened.
- Q: Water is leaking from the front of my car, on the right where the radiator is located. only thing is that its not leaking a lot, just a little.... but people keep telling me that my timing belt is going to go out and that i will be stranded!. i will like to know the cost of both the water pump and timing belts for my 2001 PT Cruiser please.
