Q: It's a really nice 5'x9' woven American Indian area rug, but the people that owed it never took care of it. It cost over $100. to take it to a professional. Does any one have any idea's how I can clean it myself? In the olden days there had to been away!
If the rug is hand tufted, do not clean it. If the carpet is hand knotted, be careful what you do to it because colors can run if not properly washed. three important things if you decide to clean the rug yourself just make sure the rug is not silk or artificial silk: 1 use a mild detergent which is very, very diluted 2 do not use a carpet cleaning machine 3 make sure you clean the rug outdoors as washing a rug is freeing it of dirt and debris from many years of accumulation. I have had very bad allergic reactions where I had difficulty breathing after cleaning a rug in my bathtub.
Q: I am looking for the best carpet cleaner for cheap apartment carpeting, that I can use with my steam cleaner, I have asked this question, but I'm getting answers for just applying it to the stain and wiping it away, when accually I want to mix it in with water and use it with the carpet cleaner. The stains consist of dirt, pet stains, and other build up, please if you know of anything that works well, answer.
I have found that Oxiclean is probably the best solution. If you cant find it in a liquid form, try to dilute some in some HOT water and then adding it to the machine. Good luck.
Q: I just bought a new roll of Reptile Carpet. I've never used Reptile Carpet before, but I decided that you have to experiment with substrates to see what your reptiles like best. Anyway, I want to know how to clean the carpet. The roll I bought came in a kit with other things made by Zilla (reptile supply brand. and it didn't come with any instructions on cleaning the carpet. I know you can clean it, because I've read online comments on Zilla being a very good brand of carpet because of it's eco-friendly (made out of recycled bottles re-usable by washing). Could tell me how they clean their Zilla Reptile Carpet, or any other brand that is basically that same as Zilla's carpet? I would like to know how you clean it, what detergents/soaps (if any) to use, and how to dry (is it machine dryable, or air dryable?)
The repti-carpet should be hand washed with a mild dish soap, like Dawn, and then air dried. I personally clean my repti-carpet like this: 1) I get a large mixing bowl and fill it with hot water and some Dawn. 2) I let the carpet soak for a while in the bowl to help loosen the dried on stuff. 3) I agitate the carpet in the water and scrub it with itself (rub the carpet together) to help remove all the dirt and debris. 4) I rinse it off thoroughly, squeeze as much of the water I can out of it, and then let it air dry.
Q: I have a very large area rug. It has lots of browns blacks. I want to lighten it sum how dye a medium-dark blue. But I may have to dye black. I like the rug it just doesn't go with my sons room decor. Please Help. Any information is appreciated. Thanks!
You MIGHT be able to. First you have to determine what it is made of. If it is 100% wool, cotton or nylon, these fibers will all accept dyes. However, most area rugs are acrylic, polyester or olefin fibers and will NOT absorb dye. They are essentially plastic and are colored during manufacturing useing noxious chemical dyes that you could not use. If you can determine that it is made of a dye-absorbing fiber, you can rent a small sprayer and air compressor from a tool rental place and use good aniline dye (not Rit dye that goes in the washer). You can buy this dye at hobby stores like Joanns and Michaels. You would have to do the job outdoors , preferably in your yard or driveway, with a painters disposable tarp underneath. Follow directions with the spray gun and spray it with even strokes. My mom dyed a couple of rugs we had this way when I was younger. I will warn you that the results may not be exactly what you want. Black will likely turn out grey -- it is hard to get a deep consistent tone this way. It really might be better to sell it on Craigslist and then use the money to buy a new one that matches.
Q: Most of the powder carpet freshners have so much perfume in them they trigger a migraine and I can't use them. Not to mention they are pretty pricey for what you actually get. Is plain ole' Arm Hammer baking soda a good alternative? Any other suggestions for freshing carpet?
Plain ole' Arm Hammer baking soda is the best! Sprinkle it on and let it set for at least a couple of hours and overnight would be great. Then vacuum well.....................Good Luck!
Q: I recently took out the carpet in my apartment. Between the carpet and the mat under that, there were thin, wispy strands off fiber-like material and quite a lot of it. Is this asbestos? Or is it normally used under carpets. Also, if it is asbestos, is my health in danger?
well, that must be some sort of carpet padding, but i suppose it depends how long ago the carpet was installed. there was a time when they used asbestos to insulate like everything. so, if the carpet was installed after the mid 80's my guess is it's not, but if it was installed before then there is a good chance it is. if it is in fact asbestos, get it out of there, that S%^ will give you cancer, or something, it's terrible for the lungs.
Q: We are going to have our 3 year old carpet stretched. We also need to have it professionally shampooed. Which service should we have done first?
This Site Might Help You. RE: Stretch carpet first or shampoo carpet first? We are going to have our 3 year old carpet stretched. We also need to have it professionally shampooed. Which service should we have done first?
Q: I have never washed a winter rug and my horses really needs doing but I'm not quite sure how !?Dry cleaners ?In the bath tub? (by hand) The washing machine looks to small... and I do not want to wreck it !!!Thankkss xx
ive never actually washed any of my rugs, but i hose down my saddle blankets. yo could always waterblast it, thatd be sure to get the hair out. if i out even a small saddleblanket in the washign machine, there seems to be hair on anythign that comes out of the machine for the next few washes. so i wouldnt put the rug in anything that isnt used solely for horse supplies
Q: Normal household carpet. NOT industrial carpet. Per square foot.
it varies..depends on the quality of the carpet...use google !
