I do not think from what you are relating that the rug is a Muslim prayer rug. Prayer rugs incorporate the design of a mihrab; that is, the niche in the wall of mosques used to indicate the direction of Mecca, an important consideration in Islamic prayer. If there is no indication of a direction on the rug, it is most likely not a prayer rug. Also, a well-used prayer rug would show signs of wear and tear, particularly wear in the spots where a worshipper knelt for their prayers. If you can see no obvious wear in areas to indicate use, it cannot be an antique. It sounds like a simple household rug of local Pakistani manufacture, not much older than 40 years. The bird design you describe is common, and I have seen it myself in many rugs.

- Hi Laly, my own Trial and Error is where my answer comes from. I had tan carpeting in the living room and added an off white area area rug. I did have it placed in front of the larger sofa. It did not visually work for me. I had no coffee table or anything that held it down again, visually speaking. I would suggest that you throw a sheet folded to the approx size of the area rug similar in color on the floor prior to making a purchase. And see what your opinion of it is. It does work visually if you have a coffee table, this will hold down the lighter rug when viewing your room. Happy decorating!

- Q: Someone that moved in with me recently broke the wireless internet adapter to my computer and since I haven't figured out how to fix it I think it may be easier for me to just run a wire from the router to my computer. The problem is that the router is on the xbox in my room and the computer is in my living room 30 feet away. - I'm not certain whether you are asking what to put in a steam cleaning machine or what you can use to clean it without using a steam machine. So, I'll answer both ways. If you want to use the cheapest means possible to clean carpet, remove odors and get down to the padding, a steam cleaner with 2/3 water and 1/3 vinegar will do it. Otherwise, use the detergent and solutions recommended for the type of machine you have or rent. If you want to clean the carpet without a machine, you have a couple of choices both are not expensive. You can use dry carpet cleaning granules, Resolve and Capture both make them. You just sprinkle them down, agitate into the fibers with a brush on a stick, let it dry and vacuum it up. Or you can use a foaming cleaner, like Woolite or Scotchguard Foaming Carpet Cleaners, use a damp mop to work it in and a brush to treat stains, allow that to dry and vacuum.
