- Q: I inherited two fairly large Moroccan rugs, hand made, that my parents purchased years ago in Marrakesh. What is the best way for me to sell these at a good price? I'm honestly not willing to put in that much time.
- You're not going to get much, considering that OKorder is loaded with Persian carpets. I would put them in storage, but first call a rug dealer to see what you must do first, in order to store them. (Probably cleaning and moth-proofing) They may even take them on consignment. If I were you, I would hang on to them. I have purchased a lot of persian wool, handmade rugs, and they are so beautiful, and look so classy.
- Q: With the continuous improvement of people's consumption level, many places will be covered with carpets. Carpets not only have decorative functions, but also have the advantages of sound insulation, heat insulation and antifouling. They are safe and do not slip. Walking on carpets makes people feel comfortable and leisurely. Therefore, it is loved by many people, but there are many materials of carpets. What kind of materials do they have. How to choose?
- Characteristics of carpets made of several materials: 1. Wool: good elasticity, not easy to pollute, deform and wear, good heat insulation, tantalum is easy to corrode and moth, and its price is high The grid is higher. 2. Nylon: good wear resistance, easy to clean, no corrosion, no moth, no mildew, but easy to deform and produce Static electricity, local dissolution in case of fire. 3. Polyester: wear resistance is second only to nylon, heat resistance, sun resistance, no mildew and moth. Dyeing is difficult. 4. Polypropylene fiber: light weight, good elasticity, high strength and rich raw materials. 5. Acrylic fiber: soft, warm and elastic. The elastic recovery force in the low elongation range is close to that of wool, Lighter than wool, no mildew, corrosion and moth. The disadvantage is poor wear resistance.
- Q: We're looking to buy new carpet for a home. We want to buy nice, durable, long-lasting carpet, but, like everyone, we have a budget and are middle class.Any tips, pitfalls to avoid, good brands, avoid these brands, etc...?
- we are happy with Berber.
- Q: I recently moved house and my real fix fur rug isn't large enough to cover the floor in my room, so my question if, if I go and kill some foxes tonight, how do I skin them and how do I attach the skins to the rug without making it obvious where i have sewn them on?Also, what shall I do with the remains, is fox edible?
- Yes fox is edible... but save the brain. Tanning a hide is a skill that requires practice. I can tell you how but I suggest practicing on something you don't plan to have every guest at your house have a look at. Also some sewing skill would be needed to mend the two rugs together, and foxes aren't large animals so more than one will almost definitely be needed. To tan a hide: Skin the animal at the leg and stretch the skin out very taunt. You will need a tool for scraping ( something sharp but rounded enough not to tear the hide). While the hide is stretched, scrap of the epidermis of the skin with your tool (on the side without fur obviously). Its important to keep the hide wet during this process. Keep a bucket of water nearby to wet it down with. After the hide dries from anywhere from a day or a week (still stretched) untie it and cut it to the size you need it. Now rinse it in a mixture of a half - a whole gallon of water and the foxes own brains (yes, the brains). Rinse, wring it out, rinse again. Over and over and over until your tired. Next stretch the skin out some. Give it a tug with a partner to loosen it up. Then you have to smoke the skin with a dark smoke (most likely from old rotten wood). This will cause the white skin to tan (hence, tanning the hide). Tan the fir side as well but no where near as much as the inside of the skin. Once its a golden brown you can sew it onto your first rug. Whew lol. This is just the general jist of tanning a hide. There are many other methods that I don't know about. I learned how from Naked into the wilderness: Primitive Wilderness Living Survival Skills
- Q: I have dark brown (medium chocolate, I'd call it) warm modern style leather sofa and love seat in a white room with 10 foot ceilings (I can't paint). The floors are oak, as is one book case (modern lines, arts and crafts style detail). The feet of the sofa are a dark walnut color. The accent pieces in the room will be yellow hues (artwork, vase, throw pillows). What sort of area rug should I get? Colors, patterns? Links to examples would be awesome. I'm getting more furniture, but I think the rug could really warm up the room. I'm concerned about getting something that looks too country or contemporary against the modern lines of the furniture.
- A rug with geometric motifs or pattern would be best to emphasize the straight lines found in the rest of the room... adding more straight lines in the rug would do so by repetition, and circles would accomplish the same but by contrasting against your straight lines instead. Look for a rug with beiges, browns, rusts, golds, and maybe some grey-blue or grey-green just to add some additional interest.
- Q: what is a penny rug?
- It is a type of applique made from felted wool. A penny rug is a folk art style of decorative appliqué, traditionally made from felted wool. Primitive shapes were cut out and sewn onto a wool background using an embroidery blanket stitch of contrasting colors. Dating from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century, a penny rug was not used on the floor, but instead as decorative table coverings or wall hangings. This folk art appliqué was often finished with a tongue-shaped border. Coins such as pennies were used as templates for the circle shapes which were layered onto the bordering tongues. Hence the name penny rug.
- Q: what is a rug?
- A rug can be: a carpet with a finished edge, particularly one that can move (see also: rug making) a rug (animal covering) is a garment made by humans to protect their pets from the elements, as in a horse rug or dog coat RUG, short for Rijksuniversiteit Groningen or The University of Groningen slang for a toupee Really Useful Group -- Andrew Lloyd Webber's arts/theatre group. and other few meanings in my native language........
- Q: I already have carpet in my house. The carpet is less than a year old.I was thinking of changing the (top)carpet only since the padding is still in excellent condition but our family says to just get our floor laminated.which is cheaper?
- Laminate can be cheaper depending on what quality or brand you choose. It is and easy DIY product so that helps keep costs down. Also, since carpet is a petroleum based product the soaring gas prices are causing soaring carpet prices. Carpet costs are increasing approx 5-8% every quarter.
- Q: Ok i am getting confused here.... The Irian Jaya is the smallest of the three? followed by the Jungel Carpet Python, and then a coastal? if that is correct could i get the...average? measurements on them?
- Diamond Carpet Python = averages about 6 ft in length Jungle Carpet Python = a race of the Diamond Python (found along riverine gallery forests in NE Australia)...also averages about 6 ft long Centralian Carpet Python = relative of the Australian Carpet Python (but still found in the arid parts of N. Australia). Known to reach lengths in excess of eight feet. The Irian Jaya averages out at about 4 ft The Coastal Carpet Python gets slightly bigger than the Jaya at around 4.5-5 ft
- Q: I have white carpet and after years of living we have accumulated many stains throughout the house. It always looks dirty! I own a carpet shampooer and use it frequently but a week later the stains resurface and it all looks yucky again. Do you have a good stain pre-treater for me? Or any other suggestions?
- It's time to pull up the carpet. At this point with all the wear and tear, it has become a reservoir of germs, allergens, and dust mites. It's nasty and ugly and you deserve new carpet. Mother's day is coming up and new carpet is on the agenda of wishes. Have a great week.
