- Q:I recently lost a large wall rug in my house due to a fire. The only information I have for it is the following: My grandmother purchased it from a traveling salesman in Canada sometime between 1967-1971. The dimensions of the rug are approx. 6ft long by 3-4 ft tall. It has a picture of polar bears on icebergs. The edging was red yarn-like fringes.I think that this rug is worth something but I can't find anything like it. I need to put a value on it for insurance purposes so I want to find out its true value and need documentation to prove that that rug, or one close to it, is worth a certain amount of money. My other grandmother had a similarly sized rug, possibly sold by the same guy, but it had a bullfighter and bull on it. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.
- I'm not incredibly familiar with rugs, but I can try to give some help. After searching around a little bit, it seems that most of the rugs fitting this description are between $200-400, but rugs also run much higher in price. If it is a hand-made rug of that size made by a fine rug-maker, you could be talking $1000 dollars or more. I can't say too much more, since I'm in no way qualified to appraise a rug, since I don't know enough about them, but I included some links in the sources that might help you price your rug. - Believe it or not... Oxy Clean (Powder Form). BEFORE YOU FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS, TEST A SMALL SPOT IN A CLOSET TO MAKE SURE THE COLOR IS NOT AFFECTED IN YOUR CARPETING (you did not mention what color your carpet was). Use a small bowl with about 1/2 scoop and cold water in the bowl. Keep mixing until it is dissolved. Actually pour enough on the stain to actually soak it and rub lightly with a toothbrush. Leave it alone for about 1 hour. After that, start blotting it up with paper towels. Repeat if necessary. PS: My home is carpeted throughout with white carpet, so I have had some experience with stains.

- The primary reason for putting a rug on a horse is to keep them warm over night. If it is winter, a rug is definitely recommended when stalling over night, as movement is restricted and therefor so is the heat being produced. A lot of people will rug a horse over night if they are bathing for a show. A lot of people don't want to bath the day of the show, and so they bath the night before and rug to keep the horse clean if they choose to lay down. Rugs are also used if a horse had a hard workout in the evening, again to keep them warm over night. Once the sweat cools and dries, the horse may get a chill without a rug, although it's not a huge concern unless the horse had a really hard workout and sweat really hard. I tend to use a rug at night if there are a lot of flies in the barn. It keeps them off without having to use gallon after gallon of fly spray. I also use a rug as just an extra layer of padding, so to speak. I give the stall a look over of course and remove sharp or pointy objects, however if a potentially dangerous object has been missed, the rug will provide a little added protection, and it will rip before your horse's skin.
