Q:For the first time in nearly 2 years of being natural, I am getting my hair pressed today by at a natural hair salon!! I am excited!!! But how do you protect your pressed hair? Its starting to get warm/humid here (Baltimore, MD) and there is even a chance of rain this saturday. Also, I am going to a cabaret saturday night but I want to make my press lasts its longest! Any suggestions? Also, how do you keep pressed hair moisturized? I am a 4a/c
I am not a hair care professional but I have been thinking about doing what you have done and had conducted some research. When I asked around I could not find any consistent answers. The fact that pressing hair removes moisture from our hair, the few ways I understood this dryness could be remedied were a combination of things as follow: 1) From the inside, do adopt a diet that allows your body to provide fatty acids to your hair roots and a balanced diet to keep you in great health. Drink a lot of water as this is necessary to regulate normal body functions anyway. 2) Daily use a small dab of natural oil over the hair such as Jojoba. 3) Wash the hair often- do not stretch a wash beyond 3 weeks. Use a silk protein shampoo paying attention to clean the scalp well and always have deep conditioning treatments paying attention to the ends using natural oil products like the Carol Daughter's line 4) Just like we did by resting our hair for a couple of years, from time to time it is recommended that we allow the hair to rest from the excessive heat of the hot comb and flat iron. I plan to find a wig close to my hair style to use in my rest period 5) When styling hair, try not to put excessive stress on the hair by pulling for eg. in a pony tail. Hope this helps. I plan to follow that regimen myself so let's hope it works for both of us.
Q:I weigh about 225 and I Bench Press 250 which I know is over my weight and is supposed to be good but is that really good for a 17 year old?
I was on the power lifting team in high school and was in the 101 weight class and benched 145. So I think that you are doing good. My advice to you would be to do more strength training with lighter weight that way you can lift the heavier weights with ease. try to do anywhere from 55-65% of your 1 rep max, 3-4 sets fo 12-15 reps. this should help you on your ballistic power as well as overall strength. Lifting lighter weights is not just for toning but is also for building strength. Lifting heavier, as you already know is more for building mass.also make sure not to drop below 90- degrees when performing any kind of press or fly moves. The reason being is that you have a small muscles called the superspinatus muscle that is the size of your pinky. when you drop below 90-degrees you put and undo amount of stress on that small muscle to try to lift 250, all you are doing is stressing it and once yo stress it enough you will eventually snap it and you will not be able to do bench press for a while. This is the leading cause of most shoulder injuries because people are not aware of what they are asking that muscle to do. you can strengthen this area by doing rotary cuff exercises with no more than 5 lb. weights.
Q:I've been lifting for about 16 months now, im around 6'7 265.My bench press max about 6 weeks ago was around 235x1 and now im having trouble just doing 205 once. I lift 4 days a week(day 1 chest and day 4 arms). My chest is still getting stronger and size is increasing just not my weights. My leg strength is going up significantly compared to my chest. I eat pretty good 3 meals a day and take protein shakes, and drink lots of water while lifting. My chest routine is Bench press(x10,x8,6,4) and then incline (x10,x8,x6,x4), Dumbell flyes 4 sets until failure, 4 sets of dips until failure, shoulder press (x10,x8,x6,x4) Upright row(x14,x12,x10,x8), front raises(x14), laterials(x14, and then 4 sets of dips until failure. Any tips will be well taken.
Make sure you're eating enough so that your weight isn't going down. Don't bother with the dumbbell flys/upright rows/front raises/lateral raises as they will have no effect on your bench press, and as long as your bench press is going up then your mass in the chest/front shoulders/triceps will grow. Lower rep training will be more effective for gaining strength in the bench press, give 5x5 a try. Make sure you're attempting to increase the weight on your bench press every workout, and if you're stuck at the same weight then deload it and gradually build back up again to break through the plateau. Do pulling exercises as well as pushing exercises or your bench won't progress well and your shoulder health will be poor, make sure you're progressing on rows and chin-ups also.
Q:Hi I wanna start working out because I wanna build my self image the problem is im a little nervous and shy about going to the gym because Im built like a twig so I was thinking about investing my money in a bench press would it be possible to build muscle with just a bench press??
Yes you can build muscle with just a bench press but I would not recommend only doing the bench press. If you are planning on doing bench press make sure you moderate on days so you can relax your muscles, and new tissue can be built. Try to keep bench press to 2 - 3 days a week max. I highly recommend doing push-ups and sit-ups. They build your body, and even if you can't do many just start out slow. Then add more push-ups and sit-ups to your routine. If your nervous about going to the gym you could also just do the push-ups and sit-ups at your house.
Q:okay so i weigh about 160-165 5'9 and im 13 and in 8th going to play freshman football in may. Bench press is a big problem cuz i think i can only do 115 so i want to not only get stronger in my bench press but all in squats, hang clean ect. i do a weight lifting program and i was wondering if it would be a good idea to work out like bench press, hang clean, and all that stuff in the morning in my garage and also do weight training that same day around 5:15pm? (i would wake up around 6:30 to work out in the morning in my house cuz i have a bench press in my garage and i have school at around 8 so what should i do i play online i need to get STRONG!!!!!!!!!!
theres no point in doing two weight sessions in a day hitting the same muscle group...it would lead quickly to overtraining and you dont want that. Be patient and progress will come. Remember that you need to overload your muscles at each training session, you need it to be intense to shock your system and you need rest to let your body recouperate. Other exercises such as squats and cleans will actually help your bench press in one way or another (they are full body movements) and so will hit muscles that you use during the bench press. So to summerise there is no need to train the same body parts twice a day, in fact it would be detrimental to your performance on the football field, so take it slow, increase the weights gradually and keep a training diary/ log so you can keep track of how much weight your moving. Good luck.
Q:What's the difference, if any, between cold-pressed and first cold-pressed. Is there a difference??
Those terms mean nothing in most of today's mass-produced olive oils. They may have more meaning if you can find olive oil extracted in more traditional manners, but those usually come from artisan producers and in very small batches. Virgin and cold-pressed are interchangeable terms. They both mean that only mechanical methods were used to extract the oil (as opposed to heat or chemical methods, both of which alter the natural properties of the oil). First pressing refers to when the old method of using a mechanical screw press was common. Olives went through the press at relatively low pressures the first time through, meaning the most pure product came out (thus first pressing). Then the resulting pulp was sent through a higher pressure press to extract more oil. The higher pressure results in heat, which degrades the flavor of the oil. Often, the pulp was heated before the second pressing to be able to extract more oil. Centrifuges are now used to extract oil by most commercial producers. Since the oil is extracted by centrifugal force until nothing else comes out, there is no second pressing. It's my understanding that since the olives are not subjected to as much pressure using this method, they are not subjected to as much heat either, preserving the original qualities and flavor of the oil. Back to my original statement: first cold pressed and cold pressed are mostly marketing terms carrying over from the early days of olive oil extraction methods. By today's standards, most any non-refined olive oil qualifies as first cold pressed. There are certainly quality differences between oils, but if you're comparing labels of extra virgin olive oils, these extra words on the label are no longer a good indicator of these differences.
Q:I see people (even some muscular people) in the gym bench pressing just the bar with no weights on the sides. Isn't that just 10 pounds? What is that good for and why do it?
Well the bar is more likely a olympic bar witch weighs 45 pounds also they do that to tone up.
Q:My mom and I bought a cookie press ,and it didn't seem to work very well. The dough wouldn't stick to the sheet, and then it didn't look anything like the pictures. If you know why this happened, tell me and if you hae tips, pleeeeeeeeeeez tell me.
This works if your cookie press is non-electric. Put the cookie press on the cookie sheet with the prongs or feet sitting on the sheet, turn it so enough dough is placed on the sheet. Give it a slight turn back. This should cut the dough so the cookie should stay on the sheet. Hope this helps. Lots of Luck.
Q:im 13i dont know how to bench press really so i need step by step infohow much should i start and how much should be averagethis seens kinda silly but im only 13
Thanks for answering my question but im short and i can really throw far but think the bar is 45 pounds i think and i put 5's on each side so thats 55 and im 12 mayb you should try close to 80
