- Q: The carpet in my store is about 5 years old. It has some places that have what looks to be a bubbles. Is there any glue that I could inject thou the carpet and put a weight on the place to hold it down?
- Hi, former floor covering business owner here-yes you can purchase carpet glue and a syringe from Home Depot, Lowes, possibly Menards. If you are unable to find it there ask a local carpet store if they would sell you some. Tell them it is in a commercial area and is a safety hazard. They generally do not want to do the carpet repair for you and consider the job too small, and if they did they would charge a large labor fee. It could be that the surface (debris left on floor)the glue was originally placed on was not prepared properly or the environmental conditions(too cold, too hot) were not favorable. Also,perhaps the glue or carpet was defective. We were surprised to receive so many defective products and carpet and constantly found that we would have to consult our area representative to rectify customer complaints. - Q: I am looking to purchase an area rug. I finally see one that I love. It's made from viscose rayon. Would that be a mistake to buy. It's very reasonably priced. I have no intention to buy a $500 rug anyway.
- You can secure it with double sided carpet tape if you are concerned about creep. The home improvement centers sell it and it works very well to secure the area rug I have under my dining room table. Viscose rayon would indeed be a good choice in an area with chair traffic, food and beverages. It won't hold stains or smells like wool does, will be easier to clean than silk and is better quality fiber than nylon. If the flooring that it is going over is hardwood or ceramic tile, you can also purchase a non-skid underlayment that will protect your floors and stop creep. Go for it and enjoy!
- Q: I am going to install some carpeting in my home and I was wondering if 2 pads could be put underneath the carpet roll instead of 1. I know they sell different 'weights' of the pad, but i wanted the thickest possible pad so that it can be very cushy. So, is it possible? - you can not put 2 layers of padding on top of each other. for one thing it will bunch up, and it will also void your warranties from the manufacturer. try looking for a good 8 lb 7/16 inch pad. you really don't want that much bulk under the carpet, it will cause it to pop off the tack strip, thereby losing the stretch. it will also be like trying to run the vaccuum over wet grass. f you are using a berber carpeting, you want to use as firm a pad as possible.

- Have you asked the carpet stores that you were already to if they could order the white carpet for you? I wouldn't think that should be a big deal at all. A lot of carpet stores may not have all colors of carpeting available on sight. They should have plenty of samples for you to look at and you choose the one you want. If you don't see it in the store, that doesn't mean they can't order it for you. There shouldn't be an extra charge for ordering the carpet you want.
- Q: I acquired enough used carpeting (good quality) to redo my whole house,but have no padding. The padding I currently have is 30 years old,as is my current carpet. Also wondering,what is carpet crease?
- I don't know about using carpet without padding and how comfortable it is. But in my house, large rugs (no padding) on top of hardwood floors for years sort of sanded away the sheen on the floors, damaging them. So when I pulled up these big rugs after moving in, the floors underneath which had the same stained finish as the rest of the hardwood was in horrible shape. This was NOT because they had failed to finish the floors under where the rugs had gone (as was the case in some older homes). So, if' you've got hardwood and might want to have it back some day, use padding.

- Oxidation causes it...it will also cause a carpet to turn yellowish is something is left in the same spot for a long period of time..... You need to move the rugs around, or leave them off for a while...wish I could tell you how to get the yellowing off, I can't.
