- Q: want to customize my car for a car show I need some advice on how to lift and lower it like hydraulics. I am aware it’s a new body frame so these type cars are not built for it. I just want honest answers on how to get this done.
- First off, you can add hydraulics to anything. Its just a matter of how much effort it will take. Newer cars tend to have multi-part frames andsub framess.Don'tt expect to get them bouncing without dropping some major money on frame reinforcement. If you are looking to do this yourself, you need to do a ton of research and buy alot of tools. Thereisn'tt any way for me to give you a better answer, don't even know what type of car you are talking about or what you exactly want it to do.
- Q: i bought a toyota celica and has a body kit that is super low. it is like 2 inches above the floor. i want to lift it because the car hits everywhere like on dips and speed bumps. i dont want to lift it too high or too low
- probably 6 or 7 inches should be fine
- Q: what kind of lift kit will i need? any info will b helpful
- i would take it to a shop, they should be able to tell you everything you need to know and lift it, if you want. fyi, any wheel larger than stock will make the spedometer in accurate... but only by 1 or 2 mph
- Q: Hoist wire rope broken car will not fall?
- Two pillars of the single cylinder will fall, the two pillars of the cylinder will not fall, but will not tilt will slowly fall down
- Q: When I take off and only when I take off from a stop, my car feels like it bounces from the front for a short period of time untill i press on the clutch again or simply reach higher speeds. I know my front struts are in good shape and so is my clutch and tranny. I was thinking it might be some bad motor or tranny mounts. After inspecting and coming to a conclusion, I think it might be the bobble strut. I have never replaced it and all other mounts look good. Is there anyone who could give me advice or also thinks it might be the bobble strut? As far as I know the bobble strut is there to allow the engine to move just a bit but it its worn then it might move excessively right? please help!!!
- your shock absorbers are bad.
- Q: Your car weighs 20000 newtons and your jack has a mechanical advantage of 50. What force will you have to apply to lift one half of the car off the road to change the tyre? Thanks in advance ]
- Since you are lifting half the car, you are in effect lifting only 10,000 N. since you have a mechanical advantage of 50, you require a 50th of this force to be applied to the jack. So the answer is 200N.
- Q: Toyota? Here are my observations: I do not like that thing at all. The scissor jack on my GS 430 with the U grove does not even come in contact with the pinch weld. It meets the side molding/running board (Rocker Panels) and on the other side it hits the soft bonding material. I can see that damaging both sides until the jack makes contact with the pinch weld. Anyone see smashing or denting using this jack? Especially on the front which it will hit the running board/molding Rocker Panels?2)Using a floor jack: one with a small cup.Has anyone seen a pinch weld fail or fold over? Lexus’ pinch weld sure look flimsy compared to other cars I have owned. Anyone use lift blocks or hockey pucks between the jack and the pinch weld? I stopped by Discount Tire and asked them how they would lift the car ; they would use the pinch weld and block pads. That would put the entire load on the pinch weld. were do you get those pads? Is it safe to use the floor jack directly on the PW? Tha
- Yes. Make sure the vents are clean and don't block the vents with your leg, clothing, etc. Also, make sure you can hear the fan running. Also, don't use it on your lap if it's plugged in. It gets hotter when it's plugged in because it's using power AND charging at the same time.
- Q: i got a 1983 Subaru gl station wagon, it has a 1.8l non turbo with a 5 speed and i am looking for a lift kit, and some performance parts too, and do not say any tang bomb, like the car ant worth that, and why! its my car and i can what i want to do to it!
- Great news! on an '83 car you dont need a lift kit! The front shocks are ajustable via two nuts at the base of the spring. Use some lube to free them off and wind them up and hey presto! The front is higher! The rear is even easier, look under the rear seat in the middle and there is a blanking plug, pull the plug out and right in front of you is a damn great nut. wind it and it ajusts the rear torsion bar, raising the rear of the car! (dont forget to lube first.) **** some 2wd cars (Guessing your car is 2wd as it is a 5 speed) did not have these features, but if this is the case simply swap the front struts and rear torsion bar from a 4wd car at the breakers yard. performance wise, the simplest and most effective is a good tune (advance the ignition, check the tappet clearances). these cars were quite rapid at the time! A good tune of the carb will work wonders as well. In the UK we got a 1600 GLF twin carb, and if you can get hold of these twin carb sets they make the 1800 fly! Also , I agree, its your car, you can do what you like with it. I actually really rate these earlier subaru's. Bombproof pushrod motor, light and nimble and a great dashboard. Sadly in the UK they are nearly all gone, due to rust from our salty wet roads.
- Q: i have a 2001 ford focus that was drop 2, need to lift it back up or even higher. i live on a dirt road when it rain its gets very muddy. i was given 31x7.5R15 215x75R15, will these fit on my car?
- Those tires will not fit your car, to restore your cars ride height you will need to see what was used to lower it, your nearest Ford garage will have the factory correct parts (Struts and Springs) and the front steering knuckles may have been changed have the mechanics there check it over. As far as lifting the car higher i do not beleive that is possible as i have not seen lift kits for that particular car.
- Q: When you take your car into the shop to have it worked on, a hydraulic lift is used. The diameter of the piston lifting your car is 2.5m, while the input piston has a diameter of only .1m. your car and the base it sits on have a combined mass of 1200kg. The oil used in this lift has a density of 800kg/m^3.How many apples would you need to place on the input piston in order to hold up your car? A medium apple weighs approximately one newton. When the car reaches a height of .15m, how many apples will it take to support the car?
- Hydraulics work with the conservation of pressure. Since pressure is force / unit area, if you generation a pressure on one end, you can generate a large force on the other end by increasing the area. To balance: P1 P2 or Force1/Area1 Force2/Area2 On the car end, force: 1200 kg x 9.8 m/s^2 11760 N Area: pi x r^2 or pi x (d/2)^2 To find the pressure in the piston: 11760 / (3.14159 x (2.5/2)^2) 2395.728 N / m^2 You need the same pressure at the other end. Area of the input piston: 3.14159 x (0.1/2)^2 0.007854 m^2 P1 Force 2 / Area2 or Force 2 P1 x Area 2 Force needed: 2395.728 N / m^2 x 0.007854 m^2 18.816 N Since an apple weighs 1 N, you need 18.8 apples. For the second part, factor in the additional forces on the output piston due to the weight of the oil (800 kg/m^3) * 0.15 m, and perform the same math.
