Q:I want to put a small addition to the side of my concrete bungalow. it will be shed with lean to roof I want to construct this without having to put columns/post on the side of the house what I want to do is attach like a piece of 2x4 or 1x4 to the wall horizontally and have my rafter attached to it. the excisting concrete wall is made of 6 inch thick cinder blocksplease help
You've already the answer/solution. A Ledger attached at the wall side, and some method of support at the outer edge of the roof.
Q:Can the cement do not dry?
Cement fiberboard, also known as fiber cement board. Is based on siliceous, calcium material as the main raw material, adding plant fiber, after the pulp, copy, pressure, conservation made of a new type of building materials.
Q:How many colors does cement have?
This kind of cement, known as "Akafalite", was developed by Japan to prevent groundwater from the subway tunnel wall, incorporating bituminous emulsions into common cement and adding polymer for diapers to make. It is most suitable for masonry tunnel wall for reinforcement materials and waterproof material, after curing with human nail-like elasticity, not easy to produce cracks, but also in the water can not be deformed hardening, will not produce pollution of groundwater.
Q:I have a small 4X2 area in which I need to re-tile. The area now is outdoors and is set inside of a concrete slab. Who ever installed the tiles before installed them like paver's where they backfilled the small area with sand (about 3). My question is can I use durock or another cement board to get a solid surface for tiling or do I need to refill the area with concrete? I don't know too much about concrete work which is why I am looking to use the cement boards. Thanks
it won't last long
Q:I'm having old (30 plus years), damaged slate tiles removed and replacing it with ceramic tiles. I've discovered there is cement underlayment under the slate tiles. I'm having this work done for me and so far the floor looks like grenades have hit it. There are pot holes. How in the world are you suppose to remove these slates tiles that have been adhered to cement?? And, how do you repair the flooring to eventually lay down cement board and ceramic tiles?? I'm sick to my stomach.
Whoever is doing the work for you will know what to do. It is a job. If you are sick to your stomach, I would advise you watch what you are doing in the kitchen before you poison yourself with your cooking.
Q:What is the waterproof material for the bathroom wall?
Bathroom cut off one of the materials, moisture board Moisture-proof board is in the production process of the substrate by adding a certain percentage of moisture-proof particles, also known as melamine board, with a multi-layer special fiber material, the amount of phenolic resin soaked, made by high temperature and high pressure, suitable for wet environment, The degree of water swelling is greatly reduced. From wood fiber plus special moisture-proof agent, facial melamine by high temperature and pressure one-time molding. All mechanical properties, physical properties, surface characteristics are in line with the German industry standard DIN requirements, excellent quality, is the best choice for bathroom partition material.
Q:Want to do their own cement board, but made out of the color on the white, how can make the cement board color made dark gray
I suggest you use PC32.5 cement (composite cement), because the cement is mixed with a lot of fly ash so this kind of cement to do the surface color is the deepest, of course, some of the factory with the lighter gray color, then After the cement is condensed, it is also darker than other cement, and some fly ash is grayed out. You buy cement when they look, there is a way to mix cement when they add coal dry stone powder or fly ash, of course, the strength of cement down, so if the choice of the latter should be mixed with their own purchase PO42.5 grade cement to blending, or do out of the cement board strength is too low is not enough. If the composite cement and then mixed with the need to grasp the amount of the problem.
Q:after installing my bathtub do i use 1/4 in. or 1/2 in. cement board for surrounding before ceramic tiling?
use 1/2 it will make it stronger, if someone bumps it
Q:I need to raise a bathroom floor about 3/4 inch. I have already poured a thin layer of self leveling concrete over what appeared to be some sort of concrete floor that had some uneven areas (60 year old house). I have read about how you are not supposed to put backer board on concrete because you can't secure it. My question is this: could you lay the backer board on top of the SLC, leave some small gaps between the boards, and then pour another layer of SLC on top of the backer board, thereby cementing it into place??
I d rather see you pore a SLC to the depth you need it.. Some compounds you can pore to the depth of 1 in 1 pore and some you need to do in 2 pores. Now if you need to do a full 3/4 depth you can do a tile mud bed , but this is a little challenging for a 1 st time. If you have some good DIY skills then you can probably do it. Just going over slab requires a few different steps when doing a mud bed over slab. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:Do I have to put cement backer board down before laying ceramic tile or can I go over existing vinyl floor?
There are a few factors that need to be considered. What is your subfloor? If its concrete and the vinyl is secured very well, then you can lay over it provided you put an acrylic additive in your thinset. This will help the bond to the vinyl. Also by doing this the vinyl will act as a crack supressant to the tile and protect against any cracks from your subfloor moving up to the tile. If you have a wood subfloor, you should remove the vinyl, install a 1/4 backerboard(not 1/2) and then install the tile with a modified thinset.
