Q: Could I use red diesel in a diesel generator legally in the UK? Can I add vegetable oil to this and if so, in what ratio? Where are good sources of vegetable oil?: Red diesel is agricultural, no tax or tax reduced. The Red is only a dye to distinguish it from tax paid diesel. However using it illegally can result in very hefty fines if caught. Used and cleaned vegetable oil can be mixed with diesel, actual proportions I'm not sure of, but I think 3:1 oil to diesel. There are probably sites that explain in more detail. However why it has to be used veg. oil I don't know.

Q: I have read Wikipedia as to why Diesel Fuel can cost so much so please don't send me any links. Just want your opinion or 1st hand knowledge. My understanding is that Diesel is supposed to be the lowest cost fuel to make. but it costs the most. Why???: Simple - supply and demand. The demand is high right now, from countries like China and India with growing economies. The supply is consequently lower, which drives up the price. No new refineries plus growing demand equals higher prices. You're seeing a similar trend in corn prices, ever since the ethanol boom started.

Ok. see 1st of Jackup rigs have diesel generators which provide power supply for the various electrical power requirements on rig. usually the voltage level is 6.6kV, 4.16kV, 690V or 600 V which is then further reduced upto 415V, 220V/127V as per load and client requirements since it affects the design and overall space required and size of rig as well. the generated power is 1st transferred to the main PMCC or MCC known as generator switchboards. from here the power is dirtributed to various other switchboards such as jacking MCC, drilling MCC, Ventilation MCCs, VFD panels (for top drive mud pump panels through VFD/SCR system) and other MCCs for other electrical loads. voltage is further reduced upto 415V/220V/127V for lighting and other lv loads using dry type transformers. oil filled trafos are not preferred since they r bulky and not feasible to have them on rigs since its in sea and also problem in maintenance. cables used are usually of XLPE or XLPO insulation. the configuration is as follows CU/XLPE or XLPO/Inner sheath (SHF)/Armour/Outer sheath (SHF), the inner and outer sheath has to be low smoke halogen free material, armour is usually bronze wire armour, usually cables used are all flame proof as per iec 60332, cat 3-22A and cables for emergency purposes are fire resistant as per iec 60331. hope this is fine.

Q: i would like to get the machine that is at least 2000 0r 3000 kw: I'll assume you have a typo in there and you really need only 2 kW! Are you looking for something with 120/240VAC or 120VAC only? Do you plan to install a transfer panel or connect with extension cords as needed?

Q: I just learned there are 2 cycle diesel engines.What machines use them?Also,Why does Jeep still use an in-line 6 cylinder as opposed to a V-6?: Detroit Diesel built 2 stroke diesel and was used in over the road trucks until early 90's when EPA pretty much clamped down on them that the engine could not pass clean air standards. There are still many running in heavy equip in the construction today. How ever they are being phased out and repowered with cleaner burning 4 stroke engines.

Q: If hydrogen is actually costing 6 to 15 times the energy to manufacture, will cost trillions to provide the infrastructure, then why are so many trying to push it? If battery powered vehicles (full electrics) are only able to get 20 to 75 miles per charge, why do we like them? Personally I like the idea of the new clean diesel engines being provided, and mated with hybrid technology. Pros? Diesel fuel infrastructure is already in place, only needs a little expansion. Hybrid tech is already showing itself to be superior to hydrogen in durability, and in cost savings. Cons - I dont really see them modern diesels are cleaner, quieter and more powerful than ever. Hybrids, especially with the American mindset of GO GO GO are showing they can go and save fuel. Tell me some of your ideas and thoughts on this topic. Q: Cummins diesel engine QSX15G8 timing: Not really an answer, but I would assume just like on a regular diesel engine, so you could ask a diesel engine mechanic or ask Cummins directly, because I'm coming up with mostly misses on trying to find exactly hot to set timing on that particular engine and I assume it's on/for a generator?

Q: here in the town i live in we recently had an avalanche take out power transmission lines from our hydro dam in the time it takes them to repair those 90% of our power is coming from diesel generators(you should have cringed there) causing the price per kWh to go up 500% for what might be the next 3 months.currently i make enough that i can live with a bill 5 times higher than im used to, but a couple of years ago that would have got me kicked out of my apartment because there was no way in hell i could find an extra 300 bucks a month with a week or two notice.its been a big deal here, but we are notorious complainers, so im wondering if that situation would cause you to write letters to editors and complain to everyone who will listen all day long?: My Electric bill in high season is around $350/Month If it was 500% more it would be $1750/Month If it was me I would tell them what to do with their power and use candles, or move in with someone else.
