yes bio-fuels are capable of running generators, just in order to make it usable it needs to be subjected to a process of trans-esterification, this will make it like diesel and then can be used easily in the generator. it too depends from which plant u have derived the oil. oil from some plants can be directly used in generator.

If the engine is likely to be running for a long time, fuel consumption is likely to be important. You want to find out at what RPM the engine produces maximum torque.(If it's a car engine that will likely be related to the cruising speed of the car in top gear) All IC engines are most fuel efficient at the rpm for peak torque. If the engine can make enough power for your requirements at the rpm for peak torque, that's the rpm you should aim to run the engine at. Will depend on the engine of course, but peak torque is usually around about 1/3 of the rev range, I estimate that to be aprox 1800rpm [ie (3600-800)*1/3 +800 ] If aiming for 1800rpm for the generator, with an engine speed of 1800rpm, you don't need to change the rpm at all. That means the pulley's can be the same size, unless the belts slip (flat/ribbed belts slip aprox 3%- probably not enough for you to worry about) So that's the ratio sorted out. Physical size of pulley. All belts have a minimum diameter pulley which they can go around, so long as the pulley is larger there's no problem. Minimum size pulley depends on the thickness, and construction of the belt- and that depends on the power you're transferring via the belt. If you give some indication of the power you're wanting to transfer I'm, sure you get some additional help you'll probably need a governor for the engine to generate at 60Hz give or take a bit. Many diesel engines just have a max/min governor relying on the user to governing the rpm under varying load . You'll need fairly good control for electrically generation, but it needs be nothing much than releasing the throttle a little if the generator is running fast, and if the generator is running slow pressing the throttle. If you are connecting to a grid or existing power system then you need to match the frequency of the grid. As to advantages and disadvantages, you need to state what you want to compare it to and how large the generator or system is.

Just about all the rings you purchase new today come pre-gapped to the correct tolerance, just like spark plugs. Way in the past, of course back then it was necessary to check the gap. With such a small engine 1/16 is plenty.
Q: I recently purchased a CAT turbo diesel generator. I checked the oil and it had water in it. After a good bit of clear water came out the oil started to drain. It could best be described as the color and consistency of a vanilla milk shake. I was told by a friend to mix some diesel with the oil and agitate it to mix it up, then to drain the oil. After the system was clear, i put fresh oil in until it reached the fill line. I started up the engine and let it run for about two hours. It was smoking white from the exhaust stack. I have also noticed that there is oil dripping from the exhaust stack. There also seems to be oil leaking from the turbo. Could this oil leak be causing the white smoke? I remained curious so i grabbed an infrared thermometer and started checking around. The exhaust manifold around the number 1 cylinder was about 100 degrees cooler than the other 3 cylinders. What the heck is going on? help would be much appreciated!
you are getting water in the combustion chamber you have a leaking head gasket or blown head gasket or a cracked head smoke coming from exhaust that is white is actual steam from 1 one cylinder there is where you problem lies and my be a bad turbo oil leaking from it and exhaust

Q: I am a programmer. And a engineer. Me and my team have been working on a project. Can't really put much detail in the project other than it needs to be powered by something heavy. This project consists of land and air activity so it is a electricity killer. We have tried a very heave battery and charger_ failed. Gasoline isn't an option in this case. We have tested many forms of electricity- but non seem reliant. It's been about 3 months since we have tried. Any ideas? Or should we just give up.
