- I have never heard. But it can't be very much. There's a primer button back in the long hood area. Priming is necessary because the fuel runs back down into the fuel tank when not running. After priming for about 6 to 10 seconds, a start switch is flipped that turns the generator into a magnetic starter motor. The engine only turns over just a couple times (usually) before it fires and is pleasantly idling on its own. Starting can't require very much fuel. On the newer GEs and EMDs with auto shut down, these starting functions are all automatic electronically of course.

- First make sure the fuel is fresh periodically. Old fuel deteriorates makes it hard it start and run. Second check the oil see if it is clean, check the oil filter too. Third check the fuel filter, change once a year if not used because of bad / old fuel. Forth Check the out put of the engine / voltage / oil pressure / amperage / operating temperature / current fuses / transfer switches are working properly. Listen and make sure the engine is running smooth, no misses. Should be good to go then.

- It really depends on how old the generator is. In the last 15 years or so the engine/generator controllers came with some of the things you seek. It really depends on the manufacture, (onan, kohler, generac,cat etc.) If your generator control panel is of a digital display you MAY have the capability. If it has dials and guages you probably do not. It can be retro-fit with new generation controllers that will give you what you seek. It would be expensive though,

- I would like to help--but I need to know what size of generator you want 2.8 k-12 k ; and what type of fuel Gasoline, propane, diesel. I would ask why don't you mount a Onan Micro quite or light into the side or front of your fifth wheel---but with out seeing your trailer I have no idea what to recommend
