- Q: How many Panels would I need to make sure that I cover my 1600 kwH? I actually want to try and generate about 3000 so I can sell back to the grid.
- It is easier if you will going to visit a number of solar panel company just to be sure that you have the right values. Some of them will give you a free solar panels quote. Compare and select options that will best work for your home and budget.
- Q: HI FROM NEW ZEALAND.I HAVE A LISTER-PETTER 16 KVA DIESEL 3 PHASE GENSET WITH SINGLE PHASE SOCKET @ 240 VAC. WITH A ITALIAN ELECTRONIC DIAGNOSTICS CONTROL PANEL WITH BREAKERS ETC.WHEN RUNNING A ESAB CADDY PROFESSIONAL 140 INVERTER WELDER @130 AMPS USING 4 MM HARDFACING RODS, ON FIRST STRIKE THE GENSET CUTS OUT AND DIE.WHEN USING A COPPER WOUND TRANFORMER WELDER THE THING RUNS WELL BUT WILL NOT STOP WHEN I HIT THE KEY TO TURN OFF OR EMERGENCY STOP BUTTON.NOTE; THIS IS A STANDBY GENSET IN THAT I JUST PLUGGED IN A WELDER, THE GENSET IS NOT A DEDICATED WELDING GENERATOR.I USED OTHER DIESEL GENSETS PRIOR WITHOUT ANY PROBS.WILL ANY1 HAVE ANY CLUES? REGARDING THIS.THANKS IN ADVANCE.CHEERS CARL GIN
- Does the Esab welder have high frequency? If so the high freq. is feeding back into the generator and frying the electronics. You may need to have the generators repaired. The only way to prevent damage is to turn the high freq. off, or drive an earth ground as close to the welder as possible and you have to run a wire to your grounding clamp to this ground and the machine ground needs to go to this also. You have to get the high freq. out of the circuit as quick as possible. (I have a Hobart Champion Fabshop that is notorious for this.)
- Q: I am trying to find the value on a generator we’re trying to sell which is becoming a real headache since the thing was made in China. All I know about it is it was made by Shanghai Tractor and Internal Combustion Engine Corp and it’s a 20kw diesel generator. It’s about 5 years old but has only been used once since we purchased it. How would I go about finding the value for this generator? I need to have it sold as soon as possible.
- Companies like China Star have become famous for diesel generators, so being from China is not a negative. Just look up any US made generator and reduce by about %30 to get value. I think a US generator of that size, which is sufficient for a whole house, should run about $2500. So as used slightly, I would start around $1800 I think. But you may have to come down to $1000 if the market happens to be slow. Check on Craigslist to compare. I am only guessing off the top of my head. It is contractors who buy them the most, and few people are building right now.
- Q: If you were talking on the phone to someone and dropped the phone into a bathtub filled with water would they get electrocuted? Does it matter if it's wireless or not?
- this is a gd ? it depends on diff kinds of phones but i think mostly no because there not high
- Q: For 100Kw generator, what will be minimum/ maximum loadfor its safe operation.
- The maximum load will be given by the exhaust temperature, regardless of the nameplate rating. There is a maximum steady state temperature, which can be exceeded for short periods, say, 10 to 20 %, given by the engine mfr. The minimum load for an engine which runs at constant speed, i.e., a power generator, is about 50%. Below that it starts to shake dangerously. . .
- Q: Explain the operation, advantages and disadvantages of diesel power plant?
- I am not sure what you are really asking about the operation of a diesel generator. You start the engine and connect the electrical load to the generator buss. If you are connecting to a grid or existing power system then you need to match the frequency of the grid. As to advantages and disadvantages, you need to state what you want to compare it to and how large the generator or system is.
- Q: I just want to know why Oahu is vulnerable to black outs
- Simply because they have a flaky electrical distribution system. There aren't that many people there so there doesn't seem to be a rush to upgrade it.
- Q: i read alot, maybe them all, but i cant understand how yachts work or get their power from. Please help !!
- Most non-sailboat yachts longer than 40 feet (and up to 300 feet or more) are diesel powered using one or several large Caterpillar, Man, John Deere, Detroit or other similar large diesel engines. A yacht shorter than 40 feet is often gasoline powered. None are battery powered. All large yachts have diesel generators which are used to generate electric power for the on board electrical systems. When a yacht is docked it usually obtains power from the shore using a large cable that connects to shore power supply systems. Yachts with sails usually also have a single small diesel engine that allows them to maneuver in harbors and other places where sailing might be dangerous or impossible.
- Q: If oil prices went super crazy.
- If oil prices continue to go up with no sign of relief (meaning years into the future) then, as others have already said, I think many of the large railroads which could afford it would begin contemplating energizing at least their most heavily used main lines. Still, even with today's AC technology being very efficient and allowing one to string wires over vast distances without a significant power loss it is still awfully expensive. Trains Magazine covered a piece a few years ago on the likelihood of railroads (Class Is) ever electrifying significant portions of their systems and came to the conclusion that unless absolutely justifiable they would seek other alternatives due to high costs of construction. While steam might be such an alternative they would try it's still pretty maintenance intensive and would require frequent fuel stops resulting in increased transit times (even with the newer technologies the motive power would employ). Just purely an educated guess but I think that the industry might go for something like the locomotives developed by RailPower Technologies, which use batteries and diesel generators as prime movers. If a company like RailPower could develop a much more powerful model than what they currently offer (which is only around 2,000 hp), similar to the SD70ACes and ES44ACs of today, then you would have an extremely fuel efficient locomotive that is powerful enough to move the heaviest freight yet also very environmentally friendly.
