Q: Hi. We're off grid and therefore installing a 3 phase Diesel generator. Each phase is rated at 20 Amps continuous(23 Amps max). we want to run 3 Split type ACs, one on each phase, plus some other small appliances.Our problem is that each AC has a start up current of 20 Amps, which will trip the safety circuit on the generator everytime it comes on.The ACs running current is only 8 Amps, but jumps to 20 Amps for a split second everytime the Compressor comes on.Is there a simple way to control the start up current on the ACs? I read something about putting a coil of wire on the input of the Compressor. I tried that with a water pump just to check if it works. The surge current was still there.Any ideas if I can use a Capacitor? If yes, can you tell me what capacity I should use? If you give me the formula I can figure it myself. We run on 220-240 Volts, 50 HZ.Thanks for your answers.: Is it too late to switch to a 240 volt single phase generator of the same capacity? This would have a 60 amp capability and would handle the surges with no trouble. I don't see how a capacitor will help. If you are stuck with the 3 phase generator, perhaps you can switch the ACs for ones with 3 phase motors. That will spread the surge over the 3 phases. There are also soft-start ACs .

Q: Can anyone help me figure out where I can find a diesel motor that can be used in a motorcycle? Can I take the motor out of a diesel generator or should I buy a new/used one made specifically for a motorcycle?: diesel motors are not exactly meant for huge changes in load and very high revs typical of a motorcycle a diesel generator? those run in a very very narrow powerband go for the one made for a motorcycle if their are any unless you have a really good reason just get a 4 stroke

REGARDING THIS.THANKS IN ADVANCE.CHEERS CARL GIN: Does the Esab welder have high frequency? If so the high freq. is feeding back into the generator and frying the electronics. You may need to have the generators repaired. The only way to prevent damage is to turn the high freq. off, or drive an earth ground as close to the welder as possible and you have to run a wire to your grounding clamp to this ground and the machine ground needs to go to this also. You have to get the high freq. out of the circuit as quick as possible. (I have a Hobart Champion Fabshop that is notorious for this.)

Q: I am investigating CoGen engine applications. I am looking for about 100-150kWh power output plus heat (water). Do you know of any application that uses solar thermal energy to power the engine? Also, it seems most CoGen engines use natural gas or other gases, but gas would not be viable for my application. Diesel would most likely be the second best option. Power and current are related. Divide the rated power of the generator( I assume is diesel driven) by the voltage of the area where you operate (Europe is 240) so 1000000 VA: 2404,166 ampere in the most favourable conditions (Power factor 1) usually the current value is multiplied by .7(Minimum Power Factor acceptable) which will give you a maximum continuous current of circa 3500 ampere. If you are using the generator for emergency you require an automatic starting system and a priority circuit together the standard protection panel which include: 1 Over and Under voltage protection 2 Over and Under frequency protection 3 Phase sequence 4 Overload. Most of these panels have other functions as well. If you require more information than what I have written, I suggest you look at some of the leaflets provided by manufactures

Q: I have a 1992 chevy 250 with a 6.5 turbo diesel, I have built a hydrogen generator for it that produces 2lt./min. but do not know how to hook it to the truck or where before or after the turbo.: You should hook it up before the turbo. After the turbo is pressurized which will make it hard to feed the gas in.
