- Q: Have a diesel engine that puts out average 3000 RPM and max's out at 3600 RPM I want to belt drive to a generator head that only needs 1800 RPM to operate at 60 hertz what size pulley should I use. Also for further info the shaft on diesel engine is 1 inch and the generator shaft is 42 millimeters
- The simple way to calculate the sizes of pulleys in you example is to use the following equation: RPMa*DaRPMb*Db Where: RPMa is the rpm of one end of the pulley system Da is the pulley diameter of the same end as RPMa RPMb is the rpm of the other end of the pulley system (opposite of RPMa) Db is the pulley diameter of the same end as RPMb In you case we have: RPMa3000 Da12 (we will use a starting point) RPMb1800 so: 3000 * 12 1800 * Db Db(3000*12)/180010 A 10 pulley should fit nicely on a 42 mm shaft so that should work as the pulley is much larger than the shaft.
- Q: Hi GuysOkay i have been given the task of fitting a 240v generator to an RV in to one of it's closet spaces. It needs to power one 240v socket, charge the RV battery (standard battery on trickle charge) and power the shower which doesn't have a boiler as such it heats the water on a 'as and when' basis. Low wattage lighting also two 40W lightsThere is plenty of space. so I thought how about try and fit a generator than runs on renewable energy.I just need to know what direction I should be looking in. HydrogenSolar (Doubt it)Bio-FuelAnything else? Also, is it best to convert an existing design of generator, buy a new one or build one from scratch to fit?Any help would be truly awesomePeace
- Electric heating of your hot water is very inefficient since you have so much heat rejected in the exhaust for every KWHr you make. Your best bet would be to use the exhaust heat and/or jacket cooling water from a biofueled generator to heat the hot water tank. You get very high efficiencies from that combination. I have seen such devices talked about (see the link below) for years, but have recently seen one that is actively under development. It may be a bit oversized for your RV, however, since it is for a house. You may be able to just add a heat exchanger on the exhaust and use a small, thermostatically controlled pump to circulate the hot water from the tank through the tubes. Biofuels are not as available as gasoline, but if you research where you are going, you may find they are more prevalent than you think. Also, the generator will be able to run on fossil fuels as well, giving you a back up in case you can't find biofuel. Hydrogen is interesting, but I can't think a commercially available generator that runs on it. And you would still have the efficiency issue unless you recovered the exhaust heat like I have said for the biofuel. I can't think that solar would work well, you have such a limited amount of collection surface on the roof, and lugging around batteries and/or hot water is also inefficient. I have been on trips where it was cold and cloudy for a week, solar would not do well under those circumstances.
- Q: i have 350kw old diesel generator and want to calculate the exact consumtionption at various loads.
- If okorder
- Q: I was also wondering what you but in them for them to work (gas, electricity etc.)
- You can get generators that are powered by gasoline, diesel, natural gas, or LP gas engines.
- Q: Anyone know the length of Diesel Mechanic MOS training?
- Light Wheel? Track? Generator? There are a lot of different Diesel Mechanic MOS's Just look up 63 series (63B, 63H) MOS's on the internet and you can get a rough estimate
- Q: I have 6,500 gas generator to run two 12,500btu roof a/c units on my bus.Nothing but problem after problem with generator.I was advised to change unit out to diesel unit! Any advise on what size i should be looking for?
- You don't say what the generator problems are. It may be undersized for the AC units you are trying to run plus other things you are trying to run. The AC unit may require all of the generator's capacity for about 2 seconds to start. So if one AC is running, there may not be enough capacity to start the second AC unit. What other things are you running off the generator at the same time? The 6,500 watt generator can only supply a maximum of 27 amps out of the 240 volt outlet or 15 amps out of each of the 120 volt outlets or any combination that does not exceed the 6,500 watt capacity of the generator. A diesel engine has nothing to do with the capacity of the generator. Diesel engines are used on larger capacity generators or continuous duty generator sets. The generator itself doesn't care what type of engine is spinning the rotor. Will the generator run just one of the units? If it does, then my thoughts are the generator doesn't have the capacity to run the loads you have.
- Q: I am thinking about installing solar panels on my roof and I am just wondering if it will be possible to completely get my house off the grid. I live in the state of Missouri. I am thinking to buy a house in Florida also and I want to install solar panels on that house if I ever buy it. How many KW will it take lets say for an average 3-4 BDRM?
- You will need about $40,000 to $50,000 for an average house not including using it for heat or air conditioning (unless running generator a lot). To be off grid, your system will require the following: Many panels (approx. 16) large battery bank (approx 24 large golf cart type) Charge controller (Converts ac to dc and controls charge to batteries) Controller / Rectifier unit (controls power flow from/to generator, batteries, and loads) Gas /Diesel Generator (approx 10KW size) Safe building with good ventilation for generator and Batteries (extreme fire/explosion danger if not) Lots of wiring Lots of patience and great care to use minimum power, or batteries will not last long enough and running generator is much more expensive than grid power.
- Q: I want to know if i can get a 40kvh generator (witch is usually ran by 4 cylinder diesel engine) to run with a water wheel and some poulies??
- (Assuming kvh is a misprint for kVA) If you can (1) get a big enough water wheel (40kVA 40 000 Newton-metres per second: you would need about 4000 kg of water per second falling through a height of 1 metre to run it at full capacity, increasing the fall or reducing the maximum load will reduce the required flow rate) and (2) ensure that you can get the generator to spin at 3000 rpm (to get 50 cycles a second) then yes.
- Q: I'm a student majoring in Architecture one of my class, Building Utilities, needs me to survey a high rise building. In my team, we divided the parts bc there are so many and one of my job is to electricity. Can someone explain to me the meaning of phase, R.P.M, power factor, and (especially) their respective units/numbers from this picture
- 'Phase' has no units: it is merely a number, in this case 3. It is the number of different live supplies coming out of the generator. On the blue label in your picture, to the right of the word PHASE there is a small clear panel. The 3 followed by a greek letter 'phi' is the number of phases. Then there is '4 W'. This tells you that the generator is wired in 'star' layout with a total of four wires. Three carry the live supplies and one is a neutral wire. Your building will have a lot of wall outlets and some heavy loads; for example, the motors for the elevators. The wall outlets are single phase, connected to only one of the phases from the generator. Heavy loads are often connected to all three phases. 'R.P.M'. is revolutions per minute , which means 'how many times the rotating part of the generator rotates in one minute'. 'Power factor' again has no units. An explanation of what it is? I'll come back to that later (or someone else can) .
- Q: I live in KARNATAKA,INDIA.Due 2 powercuts i am plannin 2 buy 1 of the aboveI want my answer URGENTLY
- diesel generator is your best bet. solar battery inverter is very inefficient.
