- Q: Can someone explain to me what lead and lag time are? Also, what are the three flow characteristics? Linear, equal percentage but what is the third. If I wanted to have a minimum stop at 25% on a non-linear valve such as a butterfly valve, how would I achieve this. Obviously you cannot just restrict the valve by 25% of its travel as it is not linear
- Hope this helps in some way... To start the 3 main flow characteristics of a control valve are Liner, Equal percentage and Quick opening (or fast opening). If you interested there are also other characteristics. As far as i am aware the lead time is the time in which a signal is sent to the valve and the lag time is the time in which the actuator moves and closes the valve. The pysical movement. As for your final question the only thing i can think of is to alter the actual size of the butterfly valve or put a reducer before it. Sorry if my information was of little use.

- Remove the valves, wash them and the horn in warm (NOT hot) water with liquid dish soap. Dry with a clean towel, then oil and reassemble.
- Q: Hi guys, Thanks for your advice. RandyK is right, my dad's GP told me that if we don't get the valve operation, his heart will swell in years time and might cause more complicated illness. Just let you know my dad had seen his cardiologists recently and had some scan or tests done. The results will be discuss in next appointment, they suggested that mechanical valve would be used if the operation go ahead. At the mean time I just hope and pray his condition will under control by medication. Wendy, may I ask you how old are you when you had your valve operation? I am too scare to suggest or encourage my dad to do the operation. Because if there is any difficulties or worse ...during operation, I will be the one send him away......If anyone have a relative like my dad's case,(76 years old had valve operation) please give me some advice.. - Hi David, just saw your post. I was young when I had my valve replaced. I was 37, now am 42. My mother had her valve replaced at the age of 54. Honestly, that is the oldest person I know of that has had valve replacement. As with any surgery, there are alot of risks young or old. The older a person is though it may be tougher especially if he has a lot of other health problems. Just take all of this into consideration when you and your father are discussing all the details, etc. and find out any and all options that he has before proceeding with surgery. - Q: I have a 3-circuit sprinkler system in my yard (built by me, last year). I discovered this week that I overtightened the connection between the valves and the downstream pipes, and 2 of the three valves are cracked, and leaking, at the connection. I replaced all 3 valves, and now I need to reconnect them to the supply. But this means I'm working backward - when I bult the system last year, I worked downstream - I built the manifold first, connected the valves, then the remainder of each branch. Now, I have to make the new manifold fit the valves, and naturally, they don't line up perfectly. Any tips/tricks on connecting valves in this situation? Is there such a thing as flexible pipe that can withstand continuous pressure? I'm using unions at both ends of each valve to help things go together/come apart more easily.
- valve manifolds are something that requires practice and experience. i used to struggle with them at work until i did a good bit of them. 3 zones is not that many valves so it shouldnt be too difficult. if they wont line up exactly right, i would recommend adding longer peices of pipe to the mainline side of the vavles and re routing the supply line futher back and you will have more room to flex the pipe and vavles into the Tees and 90s. do not use any form of flexible pipe on any mainline. you will regret it. lol the bigger the hole you dig will give you the most room and the more pipe, and room will give you more flexability to build the manifold. it is easier to connect the valves the way you did it first though, but you can do it either way. good luck and hope this helps
- Q: Is there a product that can fit over a foot valve to give it further protection in muddy water? I am looking for something for forest firefighting in mind. Something like a screen box something else that can give it further protection. It would be nice if it was small, and compact. Pictures would definitely be an asset. Thanks to everyone that answers. - most foot valves i have bought come with a strainer attached perhaps you should look for that type. if your valve has a strainer you may consider making a further coarse strainer out of a ball of chicken wire and place this over the foot valve assembly(thats what i do for the cold water supply to my house) don't compress the chicken wire very small as it will block up i tie the wire filter on with galvanized wire then i can easily replace it if necessary ps i tried stainless steel pot scourers but they were to fine and blocked easily

- The shuttle valve is a part of the brake modulator this problem is addressed by the replacement of the brake modulator and that's a $1,500.00 dollar part plus labor but I believe that they sell a shuttle valve repair kit for around $100.00 dollars.....

- There is no Heater Control Valve. Coolant circulates through the heater core continuously. Air flow is directed through the heater core/ac evaporator in the air distribution box under the dash as required by user input. If you have no heat, there are a couple of things that could be wrong. A bad water pump, plugged up heater core, bad blend door/cable, bad Climatronic control head, or a bad actuator/motor. So, what's your question? What is the car doing/not doing that you think it should/should not do?

- Honestly, vaseline will screw up your valves over long uses as the viscosity of the material will make your valves stick harder. Baby oil has minerals in it that will eventually build up on the valves and start corroding it. The best lubricant you can use is saliva because it will not create build up. It is cheap and effective but not recommendable. I remember my valves were stuck right before a show, but I spit on them and they worked fine. Its a short term solution, but go out and buy some valve oil.

They quoted it for around 50 bucks, which is fine. However, i dont get paid until a week from now. - Q: My furnace cut out about a year ago. The hvac guy i used told me the gas valve was no good and that the flu was partially blocked. I cleaned out the flu, he replaced the gas valve ($700+) and it worked great for a year. Today the furnace does not fire up. Pilot is working. I cleaned out the flu (there was definitely quite a bit of debris, so that was probably the cause for the shut off) .... The flu is now clear, but when i turn the system back on the thermostat calls for heat, but there is no gas flow to the burner... could the valve have failed that quick, or should i be looking at something else like the CO sensor or something... just looking for some direction before shelling out another 700 bucks... Thanks in advance for any ideas or assistance....
- I was wondering why the flue is clogged? I've never had to clean mine. Well anyway, I use a shop vac to vacuum out any dust or rust that accumulates on the gas valve on the rare occasions it failed to work,and that fixed it every time.
