Q:What would be the effect on valve opening if the clearance was set too large or too small, please help
We have to assume the camshaft is the standard one that came from the factory. #1. If the valve clearance between the rocker arm and end of the valve stem is set too close you risk burning the exhaust valves. As the coolant travels through the cylinder head it cools the valve seats. The valve seats cool the valves. If the valve clearance between the rocker arms and valves are too loose damage may result to the end of the valve and rocker arm. You'll also loose cam duration and valve lift.
Q:Hi. I replaced my PCV valve but the hose it connects to is cracked at the end. It's still loose and I can pull it off with my hand. It is very hard to get it to stay connected. So my question is that while I am driving, what would happen if the PCV valve accidently disconnects from the hose? Would I still be able to get to a service center?
If the PCV valve becomes disconnected it allows a direct intake manifold vacume leak. This will cause the engine to stumble and run bad and even die during idle. It is easy to lacate and fix. Look for a medium sized hose running from your throttle body on top of the intake going down to the top of one side of the valve cover/s. You should see the PCV valve. Just ensure that it is connected. To tell if one is working properly you need to clean it up and blow through it. It will allow you to blow one way and not the other.

Q:So I bought my car about 4 months ago (1999 mustang) and the second day the check engine light came on and was the code for the EGR valve. I just reset the ECU and it went off and stayed off until now. Same code for the EGR, but this time after resetting ECU the light continues to come on. It used to be a cheap fix. I haven't worked on the newer vehicles, but it used to be an F-shaped plug, with vacuum hoses, that you could replace in a few minutes. Price was under $20. The biggest problem, then, was decoding the codes! I just looked it up and it seems to be pretty simple, and similar to what I worked on. A small diaphragm valve that runs about $50. Ford would probably charge you $300 for the part and another $100 or so to put it on. The EGR valve helps with exhaust and, to some degree, gas mileage. In other words, if you live in a state with strict rules about emissions, you may fail the test. In proper condition, you may notice a little better fuel mileage. Of course, when I drove a sports car, I noticed that a good waxing helped my mileage. LOL I doubt that the Flomaster would cause a problem. This is a sensor issue that is, or should be, directly related to the EGR valve itself. Of course, I haven't worked on vehicles for years, so... Google this and see what you think. Location should give you some pictures to show where it should be on your Mustang and then you can see if you think you can do it. Then, check the prices. If your state is a pain, fixing it is probably cheaper than failing the emissions test. Besides, the more work you can do yourself, the cheaper it is. The only real difference between you and the guys who work in the dealership is a degree (piece of paper) and a fancy machine. You can do the same things they do.
Q:had a water heater put in after that i have low hot water pressure it get hot but goes to a low stream.when i try to adjust gate valve it keeps turning
A gate valve is used as a shut-off, not a regulator. It is supposed to be either all on or all off, and the handle only has a total movement of 90 degrees. When the handle is aligned with the pipe, it's on, and when the handle is perpendicular to the pipe it's off. If the handle is turning more than that, it's broke and needs to be fixed or replaced.
Q:Mostly suction apparatus with dual head motor, consist a non-return valve, what is its function to have it on the apparatus and not to have it?
It depends on the size and pressure rating as to the material used. Small lower pressure valves can be brass or bronze while larger high press valves will be made from cast steel. Brass can be used for some internals because it is corrosion resistant. It is also softer which makes is good for seating material.

Just buy a new tube, I don't even think you can/want to replace the valve on a bike tube. $5 maybe.
Q:recently changed head gasket. could valves tap from the push rods being mixed up? they all seemed to be the same size and i know the other side was exactly the same when put back together but this side is mixed up. could this make the valves go crazy? and i need to replace my water pump because its getting very hot and no coolant moving. and everything is smokin up, took off oil cap and it was steaming. would that have anything to do with making the valves tap?
When you replaced the head gasket, did you properly adjust the valves, as in preload? Doesn't sound like it...as for different length push rods, you'll have to check that repair manual you went by...you did read the repair manual, right? As for the rest, head gaskets must go on only one way. Did you make sure all the holes lined up correctly, and one or more cooling passages weren't blocked by the gasket? Torqued properly, in sequence? Were the intake manifold and exhaust gaskets installed and torqued properly? Sorry to be a nag, but as you can see there is more to it than just unbolting and rebolting parts...

Q:I acquired an old valve guitar amp not long ago and i think it needs new valves trouble is the valves that are in it have no writing left on them and there is one valve completely missing how can i find out what type of valves to put in it. Could i use a multi meter to see what voltage etc is going into the valve socket and then find a valve with matching voltage. Thanks for your help Marc
