- Q: We are getting the carpet throughout the house redone. We had planned on a high quality laminate, but apparently our floors slope too much for that. Now we have to go with carpet. I fear a berber throughout will look too industrial, not homey enough. My husband feels like flush style looks like apartments he had in the 70s. The carpet salesman is recommending the same carpet in the whole 3 floor house. We have spill-prone kids, but no pets. any recommendations? we want it to look nice, but don't really know where to go from here.
- My sister did berber throughout her house, accenting w/some area rugs also, .it held ok, not too high on luxury (not really fluffy) but it was harder for the kids to ruin it. I know that Scotch Guard is her best friend and she actually used to re-spray the carpet 1x/yr for extra support in higher traffic areas - I'm guessing its cheaper to go with the same carpet throughout but maybe they will let you change the hue of the color to break it up - or see if the one you like can take scotch guarding Hope this helps :)
- Q: My daughter just spilled some Sunny D onto the carpet and it is not coming out. Any suggestions. I tried Oxy Clean, Resolve Carpet cleaner, and that other Duel Action one. NOTHING helped. Any home remedies..........Please help! This isn't the first time this happened. And still a light orange stain on my carpet. I would have thought that this would have came out easily considering that it is orange juice.
- Give this a shot!! Dish washing or fine fabric detergent, white terry towels, white vinegar, warm water, measuring cup, spoon, vacuum. Work on removing the stain as soon as you notice it. The longer the stain is left on the carpet the greater the chances are of the stain setting. In every case remove all excess wet or dry material before attempting to clean. Blot wet materials using a white terry towel (check helpful hints for a detailed description of blotting). Vacuum excess dry materials or gently scrape up materials with a spoon. Mix 1/2 tsp. of dish washing soap or fine fabric detergent into 1 (8 oz.)cup of warm water. Apply a small amount, blot or tamp and repeat until the stain is removed. Be patient. Complete removal may reqiure repeating the same step several times. Tamp down on the carpet, do not scrub as this may distort the texture of the pile. Cover the stain with the towel and press down repeatedly to absorb the stain material and detergent. Once the stain is completely removed, rinse the area with cold water; blot with a dry white terry towel until all moisture is removed. Repeat this process several times to remove cleaning solution residue. (Residue can attract soils). If the spot or stain turns brownish when dry, mix 1 part white vinegar and two parts water. Apply a small amount and blot. Repeat only once. Precautions: Never use a stronger concentration than is recommended. Never laundry detergent or automatic dish washing detergents because they may destroy or dye some fibers. Hope this helps...

- Q: my rug is filthy ....we moved in after these people had dogs in my room and it smells like pee when it gets hot so i decided to clean it today and i put Woolite on and scrubbed it then water and soap on it( i didnt care) now its wet and i want to vacuum it up with a regular vacuum .. is this ok and will my carpet stop making my room smell since i scrubbed it twice with Woolite and water and soap
- The pee probably got into the padding underneath the carpet. When it gets hot, the pee seeps up through the carpeting and starts to smell. The smell will NOT go away until you get the pee out of the padding. Depending on how wet the carpet was, you probably got some of the pee out, but perhaps not all. I would rent a steam carpet cleaner (available at most larger grocery stores and discount stores like WalMart for about $25 per day) and buy a treatment (carpet cleaning soap) especially made for urine or pet odors. There are lots of them available where ever carpet cleaning supplies are sold. Don't run a regular vacuum over a wet carpet. Put a fan on the carpet until it is pretty dry. Again, if the padding got wet, the carpet will act like a wick, sucking the water up from the padding into the carpet itself, so once the carpet seems dry, it may then suddenly appear wet again.

- You will need a carpet iron. I don't suggest trying this yourself as it takes some practice and is easy to screw up.

- humm, well you don't say how old the carpet is or if it can be matched.. I would look for carpet just like it and cut an even ring around the hole, then cut the new carpet to fit it as tight as I could.. You can seal it down with a carpet glue or double sided tape so it sticks to the floor and the carpet.. But, because I am a lazy human being.. I would just go and get a nice rug and lay it just under the chair.. They sell chair coasters for under the legs at walmart..

- As Chris said, Natures Miricle is awesome at getting out pet stains and odors. I also have a Bissell cleaner find that using a cleaner with oxi-clean in it is the best. I usually use regular bissell cleaner add a scoopful of powdered oxi-clean to every tank of water. Works great doesn't change the rug color. Spot Shot is another great product to pretreat before using your machine.
