Q: coolant coming out around a tube that supplies the heater core (told its the water pump just don't see how): That tube is part of the water pump housing. Essentially the water pump. You may be able to get the leak fixed but if it's that old just go ahead and replace the pump.

Q: Is it cheaper to run an electric water pump or a furnace?: If you live down south in the good old USA, yes it is cheaper money wise. Initial start up costs can be really steep though. I just saw a great system that has solar power along with the geothermal that was $15,000.00 You may want to own the house and I hope it is worth it as it will be awhile before you even out on the costs. This was a 3000 square foot home I saw the system in, so it may be cheaper, BUT, may even be MORE to install because your place may be smaller and what are local regulations ? Good Luck.

Q: My water pump in my pontiac bonneville 99 went bad, and while I was in the navy, in aviation fuels, some of my job consisted of repairing pumps and valves, and rebiulding them all together, and this water pump from my car seems to have some of the same features of previos pumps i've worked on, usualy when i use to repair pumps, most of the time i just replaced the bearings, just wondering if its do-able, im looking for the cheapist way to fix this, the casing for the pump seems to be in very good condition, but havent got it out of my car yet, im short on tools right now for the moment... thanks in advance for any help...: Don't bother. Water pumps fail on this motor all the time and replacements are plentiful and cheaper than dirt. I won't even use rebuilt water pumps in my shop - we only install new ones because they are much more reliable and the cost difference is literally only a couple of bucks.

You have to look underneath the pump while the car is on jack-stands or plastic ramps. The weep-hole will show the color of the coolant if it's leaking. It will leak at a higher rate with the engine is running when the cooling system is under pressure than when the car is sitting and the engine is cold. Any trusted private mechanic or new car dealer can see a water-pump leak if you can't lift the car safely to crawl underneath.

Q: Went to bring my car in to get all my belts replaced (minus the timing belt) My car was working fine, nothing was wrong with it. Thanks: More than likely your water pump was about to go. If it has or had more than 50,000 miles on it, I wouldn't be suspicious of anything. Usually, the timing belt is right in there with the water pump and it is the most critical belt of them all. When you take your car back have them inspect it. A snapped timing belt can ruin your engine.

Q: My well water pump runs constantly. The manual says it should kick off at 50 psi, it only gets to 48 (moves to 45 rather quickly, slow to 48). Water isn't an issue. Turned off all water to house, and still gets to 48, so I believe I can exclude leak somewhere in the house.One place I called said it could be a bit of grit in the jet pump when I called. This seems like it could cost big bucks. Could I suggest for the service man to check anything else?: Some things you could check for yourself. The volume control on the end, middle of the tank. This has a rubber in it and could have a Small hole. Second, the diaphragm that controls the switch may have a ding in it, it would be hard to see or check, listen for any leaks. Make sire you use plumbers putty on all your fittings. If all else fails, call the pump guy.

Q: Hi, my mechanic said that I need a new water pump. I have a 1994 Dodge Caravan SE. What is involved with the whole changing of a water pump? He said it would cost about $400 to $500 for the whole job. Is that correct? Were is a good place to go get one? I live in Staten Island New York. Is sears a good place for that job? Thanks again :-): It all depends on what size engine you have, the 3.0 is the worst and then the other two aren't as bad and 4 or 5 hundred seems like allot but these days when the garages are charging 100 an hour that probably isn't to bad specially in New York, the best place is probably the dealer.
