The secret to training for strength is low reps. 5's, 4's, and even singles. mix things up and add variation to your training. When you do the same workout over and over your body gets used to it and stops responding. keep your body guessing. u shouldn't pre-exhaust your muscles when trying to increase your bench press. Pre-exhausting your muscles can be a great training method but it's not applicable when you are trying to up your max. For example, you cannot train triceps before chest. If you do, your bench will go nowhere fast since the bench involves the use of the tri's. If they're already tired how are they going to help you bench press? you can't believe supplement ads. almost every major bodybuilding magazine is owned by a supplement manufacturer. This makes it almost impossible to find reliable information about what really works. Supplements are good for two things, insurance and covenience. If you don't get enough food they act as insurance, and if you live a hectic lifestyle they can be convenient. Supplements aren't necessary to succeed. your lifestyle habits will affect your training. dont go on a strict diet, but if you think poor nutrition, partying, and sleep deprivation won't affect your performance in the gym your greatly mistaken.

if you cant find one for a good price, i would say go for a gym membership. bench presses are great and all, but its better to be able to work more of a variety of muscles in your body to stay in better shape. a bench press really can only work a select few muscles where as a fitness center has more equipment for a variety of work outs.

I see what you are going through because I am going through the same thing. I do dumbell chest flies and dumbell chest presses, lateral raises, each consisting of right now 3 circuits of 20 reps of each exercise(3 times a week) and for me i did not start seeing results not until after 3 weeks . answering your question you should be seeing results at around 3-6 weeks. because it depends on many factors e.g what you are eating? how many times you do your exercise a week? and your body type. I would also suggest you doing 20-30 reps of lateral raises into your work out. going to your second question.as far as protein drinks i have the same fear as you have. that is why i don't drink it right now.(eventually I am going to give it a try) but I hear it doesn't make you fat. I helps you repair give nutrients your muscle tissue during your off workout hours. I hope that this information helps you. and remeber don't expect your body to look the way you want it to be over night. it takes a long time to get it there.

Q:I was wondering, does the french press require a larger amount of ground coffee to make the same amount of cups a drip brewer could make? Drip takes more coffee. Drip is ground more fine than french press.
Q:Im 134 pounds and am looking for a good weight to start lifting on the bench press , im pretty new to the gym scene and am lookin for an experinced persons opnion what weight should i start lifting on the bench press if i wanna gain mass and tone if im average strength for and weight 134 pounds?
why bench press, seriously, why bench press? if you are new and want to gain mass, the best exercise is the squat. but back to bench press, i think it is over rated. i understand the popularity of the bench press, but it is really necessary? instead of bench press, try pushups. if that's too easy, try pushups with your feet elevated on a chair. if that's too easy, try elevated pushups with a backpack on your back. you guessed it, the next step is to put weights or heavy books in your backpack. I just know that the progressively harder pushups will work you as well if not better than the bench press. but to your question, at 134lbs, you could put on 65lbs and do as many reps as you can. if you can do more than 10 reps, add 10lbs until you get to where you can only do about 10 reps. That's your start point. basically, pick a weight about half your bodyweight and trial/error to find your start point. good luck
