Q: When I do a chest workout.. bench press, incline bench press, pec fly, it feels like the outside of my shoulders are being worked and not my pecs.I do my presses with dumbells. What might I be doing wrong?Thanks
It sounds like you might not be isolating your pecs. I'd suggest you actually lower your weight and focus on your pecs doing the work. Relax all other muscles. Even your grip, don't hold the bar but rather let it rest in your palm, then contract your pects and bring them in. When you've improved your form, add more weight.
Q: can i gain muscle without bench pressing cause ive heard it doesnt and does affect ur growth
yeah you can always do it by yourself like by doing sit ups and push us are just as good and they dont cost any money.
Q: okay so i weigh about 160-165 5'9 and im 13 and in 8th going to play freshman football in may. Bench press is a big problem cuz i think i can only do 115 so i want to not only get stronger in my bench press but all in squats,hang clean ect. i do a weight lifting program and i was wondering if it would be a good idea to work out like bench press,hang clean,and all that stuff in the morning in my garage and also do weight training that same day around 5:15pm? theres no point in doing two weight sessions in a day hitting the same muscle group...it would lead quickly to overtraining and you dont want that. Be patient and progress will come. Remember that you need to overload your muscles at each training session, you need it to be intense to shock your system and you need rest to let your body recouperate. Other exercises such as squats and cleans will actually help your bench press in one way or another (they are full body movements) and so will hit muscles that you use during the bench press. So to summerise there is no need to train the same body parts twice a day, in fact it would be detrimental to your performance on the football field, so take it slow, increase the weights gradually and keep a training diary/ log so you can keep track of how much weight your moving. Q: My uncle used to be a body builder and remains as a very fit person at the age of 57. He is getting me into lifting and I am buying a ez curl bar and dumbell weight set with collars (so useful) and I am wondering if I put a mat down on my basement floor if I could floor press with an ez curl bar? What would this exercise target and how do I specifically do it? Is it safe to do solo?
Why don't you ask your Uncle? Yes, you can press with an EZ curl bar but you'll want to keep your grip wide, beyond the bends in the bar. You can also press with dumbells..and you can do flys with them as well. Only you can know how safe it is. I can't know how you're training, so I can help you with safety. It is nearly impossible to keep a rose looking fresh forever. To press it, you will have to take apart the rose because of the fleshy bits underneath. It will not look the same as fresh, not only in shape but also color. Check out the sources. Some other ideas are drying the rose by hanging it upside down or placing it in a box with silica gel, but then it will still not look fresh. Freeze-drying the rose can be done professionally and seems to produce the best results.

It's part of their contract. The sponsors want more exposure and the sport wants more coverage. If the players are happy to take the prize money (even for losing 1st round) then they have to fulfill their part of the contract.

Q: Hey,So recently hit a Bench Press plateau (Dumbbel) and I was wondering if this routine would help me break it:Old Regime:Dumbbell Press (steady build up in weight until fatigue - done LOTS of time 6-8 sets)Inclines (2-3 sets)Flys (2-3 sets)New Regime:Dumbbell Press (3 sets, one warm up, second a drop set - higher weight, third a high set)Declines (5 sets)Flys (4 sets)Maybe dropping a set in declines and flys for Push-Ups.So do you think this new routine will break my plateau and if so, how long before I start seeing more results (5-6 weeks perhaps?)
generally speaking force some new adaption through accessory work - Joe's advice is decent but I will add the concept of adjusting the load by adjusting frequency. Consider a 5x5 linear progression on a barbell bench press for example - you can use this as an accessory still - but it will allow you to shift a heavier weight rather than go for the endurance/hypetrophy training of multiple sets of 8-10. It is generally acknowledged that 3 reps is for power (such as a power clean/olympic lifts) 5 is for strength training (like starting strength/ 5/3/1 / Stronglifts/texas method) and 8-12 is body builder/hypertrophy range. I like to ensure when I plateu that I consider all of these rep ranges to provide a new stimulus to the area. Some fundamental things to also consider: Diet - particularly increasing calories, to a lesser extent, ensure you have enough carbs to burn in the session - this is generally an issue for low-carbers though, not the general population (who already eat too many carbs). I hate these people who say drink 7 litres of water every 2 minutes or you will die! (ok, exaggerating :) but you know the type...) but I would say drink a small cup with every meal/decent snack you have (assuming you have about 6) Rest - if you noticed your sleep going from a nice 8 hours to a meagre 5 + 1/2 then you need to consider going to bed earlier.
