- Q: We just bought a nice silk rug from a wholesaler, and its 8x11. Since we bought it, it has been shedding like crazy. Is it normal? And how can you tell if it is handmade or machine-made? We bought it for $350.
- Are you sure its silk? A real silk rug machine made in 8 x 11 will be over $1000. Handmade more like $3000 to $30,000. Its more sounds like a mercerized cotton rug. They look about the same. The cotton rug shedds more. Is there a label on the back of the rug with any infomation. Manufacture ? Country of manufacture? Any information will help to track it down. Post it and I will help. Two easy tests: rubb the rug with the palm of you hand, if it feels warm it may be silk. cool its cotton or rayon. One of the best tests is the burn test. Pull a piece of the yarn from the face. Just one will never be missed. Burn it, smells like burning hair, silk. smells like plastic, rayon. Smells like cloth, cotton. Also real silk is very, very strong. Cotton and rayon are must weaker.
- Q: is it bad to leave wet rugs on horses?
- Of course you should change rugs when they are wet. They get chilled otherwise. If the rug is waterproof and the inside is warm and dry then it is okay to leave them, but it is better to have two rugs so that you can have one on the horse and the other drying.
- Q: I recently rented a condo and the carpets were filthy. Used my Bissell in February and March to clean it. It looks better, but I still see dirt stains. Is it safe to shampoo it once a month until its clean?
- I shampoo my carpet a couple times a month. I have 3 dogs and kids. I like to keep it clean. You should talk to the landlord to see what they can do for you. I think they should have had new carpet put in or this carpet cleaned before you moved in.....someone else's dirty carpet is very disgusting!!!
- Q: One night, I was bored, so I decided to use the carpet cleaner on the carpet. The next day, I needed to use the computer for various reasons, which was in the room I used the cleaner on. I went in and went on the computer, until my mom found me on, and told me that you can't step on wet carpet, otherwise it grows mold. She got that from a professional cleaner. So, does anyone know if its true or not?
- Stepping on carpet isn't going to make it mold, Mold can start to grow within 4 hours of carpet getting wet, You need to get some air circulating on that carpet . it should only take a couple of hours to dry, Put some fans blowing on it or any way you can get air movement, Open the windows or do all of these thing It sounds like you saturated the carpet , this is a common mistake people make cleaning there own carpets, good luck
- Q: I recently had new carpet installed in my home, and I was confused that the name of the color I picked out at the showroom was called quot;Fawn's Leapquot;, but 3 weeks later when the installers arrived, the tag on the carpet roll was named quot;Creston Winter Minkquot;. I called the carpet store and asked them if this was the same carpet I picked out since it seemed a bit lighter in color. They assurred me that it was the same carpet, and that the factory that made it uses that name, whereas the store uses the other for generic purposes. I kept a swatch to compare later on at the showrroom. But is this common with the carpet industry?
- Yes, it's common. The correct reason would be for inventory and stock purposes. Each one has to record a name so as not to conflict with another product.
- Q: My mother recently passed away. I had prepaid her rent for a full year. The bedroom had several stains on it and I recognize the carpet needed to be replaced, and I'm OK with paying for it. The bedroom is around 200 square feet in Connecticut. The landlord took the opportunity to replace the carpet with hardwood. He told me the carpet would have cost $600 installed but he paid extra for the hardwood out of his own pocket. The carpet that was there previously was the cheapest contractor grade material you can imagine. I have a hard time believing it cost $600 at $3 a square foot for cheap carpet installed. Should I be pressing this? I figured it would be $300 - $400, max, for similar off-white basic carpet.
- Offer 350 and tell him to sue you for the rest. Tell him you aren't paying for the best carpet when he didn't even install it.
- Q: How to clean the carpet if there is no vacuum cleaner
- 3 yuan a square 1 carpet dust is dust from the top of the foot, airing in the room, the best way is to open the window for a while, it will wash out a lot of bacteria, getting rid of moisture and water, cleaning with a watery broom is ok.
- Q: i recently had a basement flood which covered the floor in 4 inches of water. After using two pond vacuum's, and a carpet shampoo and water extractor, the carpet and the pad are still wet. I would love to get the same carpet as i had. They do not have it on the Abbey carpet site anymore...HERE IS THE CARPET THAT WE HAD.
- If its not on the Abbey site there are only 2 reasons for this.. The carpet is no longer made and discontinued or who ever you bought the carpet from has private labeled the carpet so no one shopping for an Abbey carpet ( or any thing else in their store) won t be able to cross shop and price compare. Big box stores are know to do this and some mom and pop stores. I never did. Now a suggestion.. Pull up the carpet and the pad. The pad is probably ruined. The carpet is more often than now salvageable if you can get it to dry. Or get a professional carpet cleaner in to vac out the carpet. they may be able to pull out enough water and along w/ fans and a dehumidifier, you may be able to save it. Most home owners policy's cover flood damage, its worth a call. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
- Q: Just moved. Livingroom has off white walls solid wood flooring which is a golden oak color. Am buying olive off white livingroom furniture, but need to know what colors would go well for a large rug? The curtains are also green, but more pale. I'm not picky about the style rug; can be contemporary to Oriental, as long as the colors look good.
- Anything will work. I would suggest that to give the room some interest that you pick a rug that has more in it than green and use some of those colors for accessorizing and pictures and such - unless you want to go for a room that is in just one color, of course. If you're not sure about what colors the rug should have other than green, just look at your favorite comfortor or sweater or go to the carpet store and see what kind of colors - not styles - jump at you. Colors can be tricky - but if they are using them together in carpets or fabrics that it's a pretty safe bet that they will all work together when you use them.
- Q: Just wondering if anyone knows a product that will loosen carpet glue without ruining the finish on a terrazzo floor... the previous owners of our house covered up the terrazzo with carpeting and glued down the padding... not a lot of glue, but enough for me to say bad words, and I'd really like to take some of the carpeting out, but can't afford to have someone else come in to refinish the terrazzo at this point...Anyway, does anyone know of anything I could use?
- The extension handle on the scraper will help your back from getting too sore. I spent many a day (between the ages 19-23) scraping carpet/vinyl glue off of sub-floors and tile. I don't envy you your task! (lol) PS- Removing the old carpet is going to improve the overall health of your home. Old carpeting is the #1 cause of asthma and other air-born illness's. When we moved into our home the FIRST thing we did was remove and replace the carpeting. (At that time we could not afford to replace with real wood floors.) 4 years ago we found some tongue and groove laminate flooring (from all places) at Sams Club. It was super simple to install and the price was RIGHT! So, now we have wood flooring all in the upstairs area's of our home. Wood or Tile flooring is awesome. It's healthier easier to keep clean than carpet.
