- Q:Does the rug doctor help get the pet smell out of the carpets. We have been watching a few dogs and cats within the past year, and it is taking a toll on our carpet.
- Yea, it does a pretty good job. But I never thought it really saved a whole lot of money over a professional cleaner. The rental is low but the detergents are expensive. Plus the labor and time... But... since you are only watching the pets temporarily, I would try sprinkling baking soda over the carpet, let sit for several hours and then vaccuum. Follow with a dose of Fabreeze and you should be fine.

- Dear Zelda, I hate to have to tell you this, but you don't have a small thick silk rug anymore. The cats do!! They have claimed it as their property will do with it as they please. - It CAN be done, yes. However, I don't think this is a DIY project. There are companies that can do this. I have no idea what's involved or what it will cost, though. From white to red is a big change ... and keep in mind that red, whether on hair or walls or fabric, is THE hardest color to achieve, the most likely to fade, and the least likely to turn out the way you intended! (How do you feel about pink carpet?) I honestly don't know how you'd find a company that would specialize in carpet-dyeing ... perhaps call a store in your area that sells and installs carpet, and ask who they recommend for color services.
- Q:I have carpet in my kitchen (awful). I decided to change the oil in my deep fryer and just put a couple of grocery bags together and poured in in there. I mistakenly put the used oil in my regular trash bag. When the bag was almost full I pulled it out and set it on the floor to continue stuffing it. - First, I would call the landlord/lady and tell him/her what happened. If it is new carpet there may be a warranty for defective carpet. You don't want to be responsible for damage to the carpet if it is defective. Second, What kind of carpet is it? My carpet is Berber and my cats have pulled up areas where the seams are and where it meets the tile. I use Household Goop (I get it at Home Depot) for almost every problem and it works well. You also might try some carpet glue. There is also a product called FABRI-TAC that I got from a fabric store. It is a permanent adhesive, fast grab quick dry, bond fabric, lace, trim, leather wood, and is washable. I used it where the carpet meets the tile and it worked well, very quickly. I hope you find a solution to your problem quickly.

- 1] find out what is underneath it - don't rip up the carpet, find out first. 2] find a carpet company near you, that sells remnants. Measure your room exactly first - you can sometimes find a great deal! 3] get carpet steam cleaner or have professionally cleaned. 4] get an inexpensive area rug to put over carpet. 5] get a job, and buy your own carpet!
- Q:so we put the dog in a room, and you know dog scratch at the floor, well my dog scratched so much he pulled off the carpet. the carpet is still together, the padding mostly is too. Is there a solution to this?
- If it isn't torn, it might be able to be restretched and reattached to the edging....lift up the perimeter of the carpet and you should see a lath strip with tacks that hold the carpet. You can probably find instructions on the web and rent the equipment......simple device. The padding might be able to be taped back together. Zip over to pet section here on Yahoo and learn how to care for the pup. You may need to crate train the dog so it won't destroy the house when you are away. And when you are home, the dog is with you.....period. He's a member of the family.

- With a wood floor you can get a rug to put near your bed so you don't have to step on the cold floor and you can switch rugs easily. It's easier to clean as well. My carpet is old but doesn't smell, and I do like it, but I would probably pick hardwood floor if I had to choose. It's just easier to decorate.
