Q: My cat wee'd on my 100% wool rug, ive tried cleaning it with the usual stuff like soapy hot water, but the smell still remains. Is there something I can use to get rid of it without ruining my rug?
There are right ways and wrong ways to clean cat urine stains out of carpets. Wrong ways include using soap and water, household cleaners, or perfumed sprays to try to remove stains or cover up the odors. With a sense of smell many times more sensitive than ours, cats will quickly detect the smell of their urine no matter which of the above methods you try. Urine or feces odors stimulate the urge to eliminate in your cat. So, if you do not properly deal with a urine or feces spot, you are probably encouraging your cat to have an accident in the same spot again, when he would have otherwise have gone in his litter box. The Right Way For fresh, wet stains, blot the area thoroughly with a dry cloth or use a product with absorbent granules. These granules can be applied right to the urine-soaked area. After you have soaked up as much of the moisture as possible, spray or pour on a product made specifically for pet stains, such as an oxygen-activated formula or one that contains 'live' bacteria and enzymes. Oxygen-activated formulas are some of the most safe and natural for your carpet fibers, and they leave behind no sticky residue like some carpet cleaners. They work under the principle of oxidation, and hydrogen peroxide is often the key ingredient in spray formulas. Oxygen-activated formulas are a powerful tool against fresh stains you detect right away.
Q: Can polyester carpet be washed?
Yes, it's just not easy to clean.
Q: also....what can i use for a title that has or is related to accessories in it? i was thinking about ready, set, accessorize but my poster is victorian. i dont think it matches.
1) To add warmth and comfort. Blankets can be used to snuggle up in the winter months, especially back when fireplaces were not available in every home. Rugs are used for good insultation in the cold months, and help to keep a home cozy and warm. 2) In the Renaissance periods, rugs were used as a status symbol, as well in the Baroque styles and Restoration period. Oriental, hand crafted rugs often were used to denote a status of wealth - which is why many kings had oriental rugs that adorned walls (as tapestries). Rarely were the rugs found on the floor - they were too expensive for that. 3) The more widely known reason for rugs, of course is a place to wipe your feet. It is seen as a welcoming into someones home. Blankets, as well can also be used as an accessory, when thrown over a chair, sofa, or end of a bed. They are convienent on these surfaces, because it is an easy way to add color and comfort into a space. I hope this helped a bit! Let me know if you need more help with it!
Q: Does anyone know anything about Indo Bijar rugs. I bought a 6x9 Indo Bijar rug today for next to nothing and am curious about its value. It has a tag on it from a profesional rug repair shop in Dallas ( the tag just says indo bijar 6x9 clean and replace fringe) It's in great shape and was hoping to resell at our yardsale but not sure about the value. I found two similar rugs on Craigs list, one was $4,000 and the other was for $600.
Hi, Value of a rug depends various factors 1.)Whether it is hand made or not? A) If hand made is it hand knotted or hand tufted? I am assuming that it is hand knotted, then the value depends on knots per square inch, the quality of the wool, the design, the worksmanship and finally the size. One more thing, carpet retailer often make this mistake; there is no such thing as 'BIJAR' its Bidjar. Indo-Bidjar rugs are usually made of 10x10 or 11x11 quality and this will have a retail value of 50-60 USD per SQ FT. Your rug has a square footage of 54 making its price fall in the range of 2700-3240 USD. Again, this is based on my assumptions. This is the fair value retail price. Now, some retailers like to keep a higher listing price and then give occasional discounts while some retailers do not like to do so. So its possible that some one might sell the same stuff for USD 4000. The 600 Dollar rug cannot be hand knotted. It must be hand tufted or something, as for this amount the rug is sold in India and when when add to this the retailers, wholesalers, importers margins; the price increases dramatically. If you can upload a picture of the rug, with a close up of the back side of the rug as well , I can provide you with much more information on its make as well as expected retail value.
Q: How are those carpets differ from each other?
Floors scrubbers perform the same work as getting down on your hands and knees with a scrubber in hand. The difference is they do it better despite not being able to clean under obstructions and corners. They're more hygienic as the anatomy effectively separates clean water from waste water while a squeegee attachment scoops up dirty water. A scrubbing head works cleaning agent dispensed by an automated system onto floors as the other components gear up to finish the job.
Q: Is there a way to effectively clean my carpet without buying any special equipment? I live in an apartment building and the carpet here is very dense. Is there a way to get rid of spots and things stuck to the floor? I wouldn't want to spend more than twenty dollars on this. Can anyone help?
Okay, I had this exact dilemma a few years ago. Buy a big jug of windex window cleaner, even off brand is fine. Take a regular sponge mop and spray the floor with windex and scrub like crazy with the mop. Then when its completely dry vacuum. Simple as that!
Q: Alright.. so i need to kill fleas that MAY be in my carpet. I havn't seen any hop on me but my kitten has got fleas. I have a 12 month old son also.. that crawls on the carpet and puts anything in sight in his mouth, including his hands that obviously touch the carpet. I am sure SOMEONE has had this conundrum at some point... I am hoping some one can help me with this. What i have done so far, i've washed my precious with baby shampoo and combed the rest out... and so far i haven't seen her itch or any live fleas (she's white so they are evident) but i am sure they have gotten in my carpet in my living room. anything NATURAL or CHEMICAL that is toxic for my cat or baby is out of the question.. thanks for reading. i hope you can help!! :)
Rigorous vacuuming will be the best approach. Things that may be non-toxic to your baby are not going to be good for your kitten. For instance, boric acid is considered a non-toxic approach, but if it gets on your kitten's paws, and your kitten washes its paws (which it will do), it is toxic. But you can get some boric acid or diatomaceous earth, and suck some up the vacuum after you clean. That will work on any fleas in the bag that may have survived the trip through the vacuum.
Q: It seems like my hardwood floors are dull where my area rugs are. Is there any way to prevent them from permanently damaging my floors?
Vinyl flooring does not live up to hardwood flooring. If you can afford it, get the hardwood. It's easy to clean, the look is so much nicer and it lasts a lot longer. Short term care is easy with the vinyl but in the long run you replace it etc. Hardwood never goes out of style. Even if you get a similar look to hardwood with the vinyl it's not the same feeling. Good Luck
Q: My cat is 2 1/2 yrs old and I've had him since he was 6 months old. Within this past couple of months he started pooping for some reason on one of my kitchen rugs. I've tried everything to correct this. I've used Nature's Miracle, Vinegar, other pet odor removers, put food in the spot so he would avoid the area, and not only changed litters but changed to scoopable. NOTHING has helped!! At first changing the litters seem to help and I scooped it out every couple of days. My only other choice is to scoop it out every day and/or put him in a cage for a week all day long with his own litter to try and break the habit. Other than that I feel I've run out of options! HELP...I'm at my wits end!!!
You need to take your kitten to the vet. Cats will stop using a litter box if they have any kind of infection because it hurts to go to the bathroom and they associate the box with the pain. Their thinking is if they go somewhere else, they won't have pain because they figure the box is somehow hurting them. Any time a cat goes to the bathroom outside the box on a regular basis, the first step is seeing the vet to rule out any sickness/infection. If it's not an illness, your vet can offer suggestions to correct the behavioural issue.
Q: The ones with the rubber underneath. It doesn't say on the tag. Can you wash them in the washer and dryer? Or will it melt in the dryer?
i have washed them before, unless its an old one and the rubber backing is starting to crack and peel or flake off i just wash them with hot water in my home washer and hang them outside or over the handle in the shower to dry. but no they wont melt in the dryer. i have done that also. but it does make the backing deteriorate quicker so the rug wont last as long. if the backing is already falling apart its best to just toss in the trash and get a new one. i personally dont even have rugs in my bathroom anymore. its easier to mop the floors without them. and they are just germ havens. the ones that go around the toilet are just nasty, and instead of having a rug outside of the shower to stand and dry off i always hang up the towel on the shower rack i used the day before and put that on the floor the next day. it is more sanitary anyway. those wet rugs are really nasty when it comes to bacteria.
