- Q: What are the small rings on the motorcycle brake lever?
- This is a pedal motorcycle rear brake cable, that "small ring" is a fixed cable to prevent it from moving the wire ring, the other end by screw fixed in the bottom of the engine box, from the figure to see that the wire ring seems to be broken At the bottom of the engine, there should be another section of the bottom of the screw crushed off.
- Q: When downshifting on a motorcycle is it possible to put in neutral to save on the extra wear and tear of the gears rather than go down each gear according to your speed? I mean like when I‘m driving my car instead of downshifting from say 5th to 4th gear I put it in neutral and just put it in whatever gear I need when I know what speed I‘m gonna be doing at that moment like say 3rd gear or what not. Plus when first riding a motorcycle what‘s the hardest thing to learn to do when riding one? Like say a deer jumps out in front of you when your riding. How do you keep from flying over your handle bars if you gotta come to a abrupt stop? Thanks in advance for all who answer.
- 1) Take the MSF course! Would you try to solo an airplane without having taken lessons first? 2) Budget for some safety gear. You don't have to spend huge bucks to get good, new gear. Helmet $100, Gloves$25 for summer gloves or $40 for winter, Jacket $150 with armor, boots $40-$100 and you can use better hiking boots. After you've been riding a couple of months you'll have a list of other gear you'll want. 3) Keep learning and practicing. Read the moto mags, like Motorcyclist, Cycle World, Two Wheels Only (props to the Britmags!). Not the TA rags. Learning doesn't stop until after Death, which can happen from not learning. 4) I don't know what side of motorcycling/scootering/etc. you're attracted to, but do remember that the street is not a race track. There are no corner workers to show you a flag for a hazard ahead, animals are not cleared from the road, people don't have to know squat about driving to get a license (and they really are out to get the biker), and the road isn't glass smooth.
- Q: had a serious nasty spill after skidding on slick street tell me how to avoid it so I don‘t do any more damage to the bike :)
- yea, that,s true! if the axle was broke, you won,t be goin nowhere, it will just sit still, because the front axles is what pulls the car.
- Q: What‘s the difference???? Motorcycles
- ABS are Anti-Skid brakes. They keep your brakes from locking up in a panic stop situation and provide safer and more effective braking. You can brake harder and stop quicker with ABS brakes. They are more expensive that standard brakes because of the electronic sensors and controls that are required to make them operate.
- Q: I want to learn to ride a motorcycle. I know all the technicalities of CBTs and all that stuff, but want to know more about actually learning.I definitely want a 125 rather than 50 as I really can‘t bear the idea of getting to work at 30mph. Due to a chav culture in the area I really don‘t want a moped style, but would be open to a vespa style. My preference is for one that is more like a cruiser.however; I am not sure as to how difficult it will be to learn a manual bike, so feel I may be limited to an automatic scooter. So I want to know how hard it is to learn manual - bearing in mind I have been driving a manual car for 7 years. The other thing I want to know is: what is the best way to reduce the insurance cost? I realise that not having a full licence I will struggle to get it very cheap, but feel there must be something I can do to bring it down from the ?350 for fully comp mark.Thanks.
- Motorcycles are not hard to learn to ride. If you can ride a regular bicycle, you already know how to balance and steer (and if not, you should start on a bicycle to learn those things). I understand that in the UK training is mandatory. I don't think it's really necessary, but even with training, you do most of your learning on your own. You learn to ride by riding, and the full process takes a while, so the training only gets you started. If you can clutch and shift in a car, you understand the concepts, and it won't be that hard on a bike. In a car you clutch with your foot and shift with your hand, and on a bike it's the opposite, but the concept is the same, the feel of the clutch, downshifting and engine-braking, etc. I learned to drive with a manual transmission, and when I got my first motorcycle I was able to just jump on it and ride it home! As for insurance, well I can't help, sorry. It's always going to be a lot for a beginner because motorcycles are DANGEROUS. In the US half of all m/c accidents happen to riders with less than a year's riding experience. This shows you that learning to ride a motorcycle is more dangerous than just riding one. In the UK I understand you are limited in size for the first year or two, and I think that's a good idea. Here in the US a 16 year old kid can get on a fire-breathing 1000cc monster, and I think this skews the statistics, it makes learning to ride look more dangerous than it actually is (but it's still dangerous).
- Q: Ok so Im looking to buy a motorcycle. Im 16 ill be 17 in 4 months. Im taking tests on the net to help me so ill be ready for a bike at 18. I want to get a motorcycle because they have more benefits than a car like they get better gas mileage and theyre cheaper than buying a car and because I think theyre cool. I have a few questions about buying them and all. 1) Do you have to have a drivers licence before you can drive a motorcycle? 2) How old do you have to be in NYS to own a motorcycle? 3) when they put you through the course to learn how to drive it what are the obsticles like? 4) Is motorcycle insurance cheaper than car insurance? Thats all the questions I have know but ill probably think of more to ask :) Thanks for any answers :)
- She's in a car seat. Bumps on the road are absolutely fine. She isn't going to sustain brain damage. As for her picking up her head and it dropping on your shoulder . my son did that a few times as well. He's just fine. It didn't last long and after the first few times he did it I was a bit more prepared for it.
- Q: I swapped the standard levers for shorty levers last week on my 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 400r (basically the same as a 650r with a smaller engine). I swapped them because I slipped on my driveway when I was moving the bike around and dropped it on it‘s side (almost no cosmetic damage besides the lever). I did this about 2 months ago, and finally got around to swapping levers last week. Everything was fine until I came out of work yesterday and my front brakes were locked on. I pulled the lever off and when I put it back on it was unlocked. I then left the office (a mistake). When I was on a major road the front brake came on again and hard. I was forced to stop in the center median (about 2 feet of room.), get off and pull the lever off again. Once again, this fixed the problem but now I am very nervous about getting back on my bike. Please help! Background: The bike has about 3000km on it, it was bought new this summer, and it is very clean (I don‘t think any dirt could have jammed the master cylinder).
- the lever you used does not match the length of the previous one thus creating a constant pressure on the system . you need to use the correct parts .i am taking about the other end of the lever . even though the it looks and appears good it is not releasing on the other end .
- Q: Can you guys tell me step by step instruction to ride a motorcycle.how to go, brake and clutching and gearing.thanks
- On a modern bike: Clutch is on the left handle bar, front break is on the right handle bar, throttle on the right handle bar. Shifter left foot(usually 1 down and 5 up), rear break right foot. Start the engine from neutral. Pull in the clutch. Shift into gear 1 (1 down). While slowly letting off the clutch, use the thottle to give the bike a little gas. It take some practice, if you have a problem with balance, maybe you need to start with a small motorcycle like a 250.
- Q: How to drive a motorcycle (bike)?I know the basics of motorcycle driving, but I need some details explanation. When we shifting the gear, how to use clutch and throttle. Please help me
- best thing for you to do is take a course in motorcycle riding, especially if you plane to be licensed for a bike
- Q: i drive stick and i never downshift rev match i just for example if im going 65 on 5th gear and break i just break to 20 shift it in the gear i think it needs to be , now with a motorcycle lets say lets say im going 65 on 5 gear ,if i want to break can i do the same thing? also can i break by breaking then when im about to stop put the clutch in and when what s stop hold the clutch in and shift to neutral or 1 gear with out letting the clutch go?
- On a motorcycle it is always a good idea to stay in a gear that is compatible with the speed you are traveling, this allows you to stay in the 'power' level you may or may not need at any certain time. If you are in a higher gear while slowing the reaction time is minimal and you're already at a disadvantage being on a motorcycle to begin with.
