- Q: Simple question that i want to know answer to.
- Anything mechanical can break. Nothing lasts forever. Valves wear, bend, brake. Reasons usually from over revving, or neglect. If you race you can crack a guide, bend a valve, have valve to valve contact. Valve to piston. That's usually timing off or over revving. Mechanical timing off. Skipped a tooth or two on timing chain. Just went to George Town two weeks ago. One of the guys I ride with had valve to piston on the intakes on his CRF 450. His timing chain skipped a tooth. Luckily it was on the way back to staging.
- Q: Review the motorcycles from 1973 two strokes and compare from today ; then which are the better bikes?
- Motorcycles have come a long way since 1973! They have disk brakes now. 5 or 6 speeds. Fuel injection. Four valves per cylinder and overhead cams. Alloy wheels. I could go on. Back in the 60s/70s friends of mine told me 2-strokes only really had an advantage on a dirt bike, because it revs up faster. They made big 2-strokes (Suzuki Titan 500, and the famous 3-cylinder 'Water buffalo', the GT750) but it was only a way to make a big engine cheaper. They pollute very badly because they don't burn all the fuel, as much as 1/3 of it just ends up in the air. And naturally they don't get very good gas mileage either!
- Q: Was riding the motorcycle and the wheel just locked up. I came to a skidding stop. It won‘t roll, won‘t go in to neutral or shift easily. Am I looking at a transmission or final drive problem?
- I have had failure with the crown and pinion in the final drive and I have also had universal joints go on the drive shaft. Transmissions seldom fail but it is possible, I would start by removing the back wheel
- Q: I have this chance to buy a ‘97 600cc Bandit for a pretty good price.Since you can generally tell the condition of a car that is 16 years old, can I apply the same for a bike or not, or what is the approach here?
- My big truck tires sure seem to cover the ground faster! That scenary just flies by!! But then that could be due to the amount of pressure I put on that skinny little peddal on the floor!! Accelaration is due to the engine size of the vehicle.
- Q: what should I look for. when I seat on the bike should both my be touching the floor flat
- Ideally both feet should be flat on the ground. I know people who can just touch with the 'balls' of their feet, though, and they say that's enough. If it's your first bike, don't get a new one, get one 5 or 10 years old because you're going to be hard on your first bike. You're going to abuse the clutch, you're probably going to drop it once or twice before you learn. If you get an 'old beater' you can sell it in a year for about what you paid for it and then get what you -really- want. And you'll know better what you want after some experience. If you are 'inseam challenged', cruiser-type bikes have lower seats. Otherwise I'd get a 'standard' for my first bike. Sportbikes today are really -serious-, very single-purpose. There are standards that are 'sporty' but more general purpose, still a blast to ride. If you have friends that ride, ask them a lot of questions about their bikes--how they like them, what they like and don't like, etc. Ask to sit on their bikes. You can tell a lot just by sitting on a bike! Check out the 'ergos', the relationship of seat, pegs and handlebars, every bike is different and you will find some much more comfortable than others. Then browse Craigslist and see what's available.
- Q: motorcycle accident on the news?
- Just fiction. There is always a way to get the bike to slow down. Just hitting the kill switch or turning off the ignition will slow down the bike in a hurry. Brakes are separate and not dependent on the engine running to operate. Can't imagine being able to remove my helmet while trying to control a runaway motorcycle to hand it to a passenger. Event didn't happen.
- Q: Hey you; people who just so happen to own a motorcycle or make payments on one. I want to know how much does a motorcycle cost! Also for example if you have experienced a lot with motorcycles, Which ones are reliable? I‘m just asking because, well I‘m interested! I know some of you will say, that it‘s risky do go around in a motorcycle. But to be honest, it‘s risky to do anything! How much does a Motorcycle cost?Which ones are good, and reliable? And if you have any stories to tell, please share with me!
- If I were to answer the Q directly it wouldn't make much sense. If you're serious about the sport, do some serious research. It's in your best interest when you're participating in a potentially life-threatening sport. And if by any chance you find that you're not serious about the sport, get a scooter. Great for simple around town riding, not too fast, easy to handle, no gears or shifting, etc. Best of luck, hope to see you out on the road.
- Q: I have just bought a new motorcycle (Honda CBR 150R). I want to know what thing I have to do for care my motorcycle in the good way?Such as changing oil, ???Many thanks for answering.Best Regards!!!
- Check your chain tension, all bulbs are working, oil lever is correct, check for leaks, check brake pads, tyre tred and do a brake test and check your tyres for glass or nails Been on fb that people are apartenly putting Vaseline on disks around the uk so just check that if it's a road bike
- Q: I'm thinking about riding one in vancouver, and god knows it rains a lot there. Is it safe though? and what other gears should i wear/use/put on aside from raincoat to keep me dry? Thank you
- I got this from a website. It is a short hand version of what you learn in motorcycle school. (1) Wear full protective gear, including water proof boots, full face helmet, leather jacket, gloves, etc; (2) Wear a good rain suit that is preferably designed for riding motorcycles in the rain; (3) Do not accelerate or brake fast, take it easy; (4) Leave plenty of room between you and the cars around you. Try to keep a very good distance between you and the cars or trucks in front of you because their spray will impact your visibility, and as you know on a motorcycle we do not have windshield wipers; and (5) Take turns or curves very slowly and cautiously. It only takes a split second to eat asphalt if your motorcycle looses traction and goes out from under you. Above all, do not ride beyond your comfort level. If it does not feel right, it probably is not right!
