Q: Do they make atuomatic motorcycles that do not need use of the feet? (Double Amputee with Prosthesis)
I know a local fellow that does not have the use of his legs and he rides a Can-Am. He set it up so that his wheelchair is on the side of the bike. Being in a wheelchair doesn't seem to stop him from enjoying the wind in his face. I don't know a lot about the Can-Am's but I do believe they come in automatic and I'm also not sure if the guy that I know had anything special done to his to make it rideable for him
Q: I want to mount a motorcycle engine in the back of a tube frame and hook it up to a front mounted 4 speed manual transmission and cover it in a fiberglass body. The frame will use a independent front suspension, single wheel independent rear suspension. The doors will open and close and the side windows will work(manually). the inside will only have 2 seats and a dash (the firewall will be mounted right behind the seats). The gas tank will be mounted under the front end trunk and the steering will be manual rack-and-pinion and the brakes will be manual(as well) on the front(no rear brake). I estimate the wight at around 400-800 lbs. without a driver. What motor could I use?
The vast of motorcycle motors have a transmission included, the 4-speed car transmission in front would be about 200 pounds of dead weight. What motor you get depends on what you want -- power for fun or a economy micro car. Assuming a econ car, a scooter motor/transmisison/rear wheel -- anything from a 150 for 45 mph streets or 650cc for freeway usage.
Q: Need a front brake hose for a 1981 Honda CM 400A Hondamatic. Would appreciate any links. Thanks.
This is a motorcycle. Since it is a Honda, go to your Honda dealer and get one. The worse case is that you may have to take the fittings off and have one made for you at a hydraulic shop. Most places that service tractors (John Deere, Massey Fergusson etc.) should be able to do it or at least tell you where they get theirs done.
Q: My 2007 Ninja with only 3000 miles on it and there are grooves in the rotors already. Are small grooves normal or should i have them resurfaced already? thanks
Don't worry about it. My rotors have grooves and the bikes stop just fine. One is grooved due to using pads that were harder than recommended. Never heard that motorcycle rotors could be re-surfaced but that seems like needless expense since the rotors are so thin to begin with.
Q: It just started this weekend. I have been riding in the mountains and when I began coasting down the hills, my bike would begin to wobble. It only seems to do this when I am using the back brake slightly or when I am coasting without holding the clutch in. I also see that the back wheel has no wheel weight on it and wonder if thats the problem. Help me out.
Check the things the others are suggesting also check your tire for tread separation. It usually is worse at lower speeds. Yes unbalanced tire could cause that along with a loose bearing or spokes. You need to get everything tight and true.
Q: I‘m currently on a deployment, and I‘m trying to learn about how Motorcycles work while I have down time.I don‘t know anything about them, but I‘ve always loved riding on them growing up, and I‘ve had a little practice driving my Dads. Anyways, he found a deal for me through a friend and I figured if he thought it was a good deal (and doing a little research it seemed to be), so I bought it. I‘d like to read up before I get home so I know how to take care of it.I personally don‘t know much about cars other then the basics, changing tires, oil and filters ect. When I crashed it I got a lot of hands on expiernce fixing it myself, with guidence from online research and phonecalls to my Dad. But I don‘t even know how to change the oil of a bike haha, or when it would be due. So any info, tips, advice would be helpful. What I have is a 2006 Yamaha 650 V Star, if that has any significants.
Google it hehehe Please be safe tho motorcycles are very dangerous!
Q: I have a 1983 Honda Nighthawk 550 that I‘ve been working on and I am new to the motorcycle scene. What kind of brake fluid would be okay to use?
DOT 3 or 4. No, No and NO to DOT 5 in that bike. It didn't exist when that bike was made - at least for mere mortals. DOT 5 is silicone based and DOT 3 and 4 are glycol based. They are totally INCOMPATIBLE with each other. While you can use DOT 5 in your Honda, You MUST have ALL of the glycol based fluid out of the entire system. NOT an easy task. DOT 5 has a higher boiling point and isn't hygroscopic (absorb water) which makes it suitable for racing systems. You Nighthawk has NO need for this. Use DOT 3 or 4. Be careful. DOT 3 and 4 brake fluid will eat paint. Don't dribble and if you do, clean up immediately.
Q: Im sixteen living in a urban area and would like to move around. (Like today I rode my bycicle to pick up milk and juice and it was uncomfortable.) Any affordable options for a beginner. I don‘t want to do any 30+ minutes commutes but also drive on the freeway time to time
Some people find that usuing the motorcycle for short commutes and chores to be unpractical and suggest a huge motorcycle. I dislike being in a cage, I ride full time. I find a motorcycle the perfect vehicle in the city. Lots of options. For prior eight years / 30K miles I rode a Suzuki Savage. Yeah, I know a GZ250 or a V-Star 250 would have been better, but I was having fun. Mostly just carried in my saddlebags, but I did have a milk crate that I could bolt to the pillion/sissy bar and carry more. Sold it, now have a Vespa LX150. Would be good for you. You know how to ride a bicycle, scooter is almost the same, just you don't have to pedal. Brakes are right hand/left hand, same as your bike. Want to move, just twist the right grip and it goes. Off the throttle, brake down and the scooter declutches and you are stopped in neutral. Twist and off you go again. Simple, easy. Have storage under the saddle that can carry gallon of milk. Want to carry? I have a rear rack that can carry a top box. My box is just a bit too small, so I a few seconds to unbolt the box and I can carry a case (24 bottles) of beer back home. I got the Vespa because it is a 150.5cc -- California Freeway Legal and I can and do run the freeways, doing over 60 mph. Timed: 40 miles in 39 minutes. Nice thing about the scooter is that people do not keep telling you motorcycles are dangerous -- all they say is cool how much mileage 70 mpg! Whoa!
Q: So i changed the front pads of my sportbike..introduction: (at beggining the front brake lever was too low almost touching the handle to brake. When i changed the new pads, nothing really changed so i put a little top inside the regulation of the lever just to put it upper, so when i brake dont go too down )the problem. So after changing the pads, the bike got really braked, the wheel dont turn, and after a while it virtually stopped the bike too sudden, and got overheated on the disc rotors..i had to bleed them but after a little ride it happens again the bike brakes itself, and become really hard.the funny thing is that overnight the brakes got released itself and the wheel turns again.. until i brake a couple of times when it gets stucked again..What is it =(what i did wrong?whats the solution thanks!!mech experts 10 pts.
Hi dude the brakes works with the gradual engagement so you gotta check the cylinder and play if everything fine ,,check the caliper and the piston inside the caliper i guess the gap between two pads has increased so it might touching the disc and causing too much friction and when you apply brakes the brake pad which is already in tightly packed and causing continues contact with disc causing faster engagement which results wheel lock ,,so bleeding won't work it's just to remove the air bubbles ,all you gotta do is meet a mechanic and reset the brake pedal play as well as the Brake caliper
