A male stands next to the wall far enough to place a chair between himself and the wall. Place a chair between the male and the wall. Have the male bend over and place his head against the wall with his back being almost straight. Then the male should try to pickup the chair and standup at the same time. 99% of the men can not do it since their center of gravity is in their upper body. So no matter how strong they are it should not matter. Have a female do the same steps as listed above. She should be able to do it pretty easily since her center of gravity is typically in the lower half of the body. We had to do this in high school as a test.

Q: Hello,Something freaky is happening to my patio furniture. My building is undergoing pressure washing on the outside, so I brought the chairs inside over the day. They are made of a brownish metal (iron?) and a sort of mesh. So they have spent the day indoors, and I was just taking them outside again, when they started bleeding a bright reddish orange fluid. What can this be? Can rust appear in liquid form?!: Yes, I believe rust can be in such small particles, suspended within water, that the water does look orange. Probably the internal areas of the metal structure have gotten wet and are now draining out. Use rust remover to get it off carpets, etc. Test an area, first.

Like, having a cis cyclohexane DOES NOT translate into a cis chair conformation??: For your first question, you are likely drawing your chair conformer correctly, but interpreting it incorrectly. Are you equating equatorial and axial positions as trans? Cis substituents are sometimes in equatorial and axial positions - you can tell that they are cis if BOTH are the upper or lower subsituent. The substituents are trans if one is in the upper position, and one is in the lower position. I wish I could attach a picture to this answer to show you better. For your second question, you are probably drawing it incorrectly. One will be axial, and one will be equatorial. Remember to number your carbons so that you are drawing your substituent on the right one. tert-butyl groups are very bulky and will add a lot of steric hindrance to your molecule. In this case, a boat conformer will actually be more stable! Cis cyclohexanes do translate into chair conformations, but this particular molecule is more stable as a boat.

Q: i am painting the inside of my condo, and i had an idea, but i am not sure if it works or not. from our couch, directly across on the other wall is the tv, to the right of it is the stairwell to the 2nd floor, so you can see it from the couch. i was thinking of painting the wall that the TV is on (which is a small wall) an accent color, and then, having a chair rail go up the stairwell, with that same accent color from the chair rail to the floor. HELP!: Actually, what you are creating is a wainscotting and yes the idea will look lovely. Step back from the stair case, can you see through the railing? How large is the banister and railings? This will optically tell you the size of chair rail thickness you will need. If the banister is bulky, use a larger chair rail to balance it and so that visually it rises just above the height of the bannister to add bulk and so that you don't use a size that disappears against it. By using the same color up the stairs that you use on the TV wall, you are anchoring that end of the room which will give it more presence. Great project, sounds fun!
