- Q: Hi!I have a typical desk/office chair and I want to reupholster its seat.It is made of nylon fabric.I would like to know if it is possible to find a store that sales upholstery for desk chairs (And which also has upholstery that will fit my chair properly), and how hard will it be to take off the current upholster and put the new one (Is it possible anyway?)Thanks!
- the seat on most chairs have screws. Just get a screw gun or screw driver and remove them. then take the seat and remove the old cover Not the padding. I will put the batting over the old padding and then the material. Most seats will take about 1/2 yard to 1 yard of material to cover it. You also need to buy a package of batting ( I buy extra loft 1/2 inch thick twin size batting). I cut the batting to fit the top of the seat, then place the seat on the wrong side of the material and draw a line around the seat for an idea on size. I then cut out the seat pattern I have drawn allowing for about 6 inches to wrap under the seat. I then pull the material up and over the seat and staple in a few places. I repeat that around the seat. when done turn it over to see if it is smooth and replace it in the chair and screw in the screws. Your done. You can go to any fabric shop or specialty fabric shop for material. Material is either 45 inches up 90 inches wide. You do not have to go to an upholster shop (they will charge you more for the material) I shop at Joann's where I live because I can get the same material for less and I buy when it is on sale. Most material will cost from $5.99 to 25.99 a yard. That is for design and if it is a designer name material. I have re-done my chairs several times in my home and it takes about an hour for me to do. So go ahead and do it yourself. good luck

- It's a double papsan chair. I could only find the single ones in metal and they did't look that good. You could spray paint the rattan frame any color you want to make it look like metal.

- If your floors are actual hardwood, the rolling chair could definitely do some damage. I had solid hardwood flooring in my previous home and didn't think the rolling chair could possibly hurt it (after all, it's a smooth surface!), but I ended up having to get one of the plastic mats to protect the floor after only a few weeks because the finish was starting to wear away in places. I also think it depends on the TYPE of wood your floors are, however, because some are more resistant than others. If your floors are wood laminate, the chair won't damage them! Even though hardwood is beautiful and feels so natural, one of the huge benefits of wood laminate is that it is so much more durable - especially for things like rolling chairs, heavy-traffic areas, and pet claws.

- Q: I hear all the time that a chair seat is improper when riding a horse. I've seen pictures of what it looks like, so I feel like I have a general idea.However, I see riders constantly that ride with what I would associate with a chair seat. Most of the time, this is in western riding - and even western riders that are successfully competing. Sometimes the seat is really extreme.Now, I know there are differences between western and english riding, but I was always under the impression that a chair seat is bad because the rider has less control and it puts pressure on sensitive areas of the horses back. Does the western saddle just distribute the weight better?I'm not incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to horses, but I have ridden on occasion. I personally prefer to have my legs under me more as I feel like I have better balance and more control over what I am doing.So, what am I missing?
- I cannot answer for certain, but I can give what I have experienced. I ride with a slight chair seat (not as bad as I used to, but my legs basically won't allow me to get my legs perfectly beneath me while not standing in the stirrups, joints won't let me at this moment). I actually feel like I have better shoulder control, especially with horses in training, when I have a slight chair seat due to my legs being closer to the horses shoulder and I have a deeper seat (I've never found a horse to be in pain due to chair seat, now I ride gaited horses so we don't trot, it may be different if you do have to trot) which allows for better seat signals (in my experience).
