Q: Why is my 1994 Honda accord check engine light on? I recently drove from new jersey to south carolina this passed thursdayabout 10 hour drive I would say approx 200 miles or something. I change the oil regularly, have oil all systems go . Except now my check engine light comes on and off now and it never did ever and I‘ve had the car 4 years now. Anyone who moves or lives in the south knows you must have a car or your like nonexistent. Q: I have a 2006 Ford Escape XLT and I was wondering if there is a way to make it where the daytime running lamps aren‘t always on. I thought Daytime Running Lights (DRL) were supposed to turn off if it was sunny outside, but I guess I was wrong.: It's a great safety feature that really shouldn't be messed with. Why not disconnect the airbags too. They are pretty expensive to replace if you hit something. DRL's help other people see you and are proven effective even on sunny day's.

Q: How can the auto door lock system be deactivated on a 1993 Olds Ciera?: It may be similar to the 94 cavalier I had and pulled the fuse and lost my courtesy lights too. It was worth it, that auto lock on those cars was annoying!

Q: My sister has had all her tires slashed at work 5 times in the last year and it's getting stupid. Her work won't put up cameras and the police (many of which are friends of hers) can't do anything about it. So what is a good system to catch this joker? She works midnights at a nursing home, so night vision a must. Cost at this point isn't, although cheaper would be better. 5 sets of tires isn't cheap. Q: I have a 1995 Chevy Blazer, and it has problems starting, idling is very shaky, and I smell burning all the time. I replaced the EGR valve, plugs, wires and caps, but was told the catalytic converter is now the problem. However, if that is true, why does the light only flash while I'm in idle?: It flashes only when the computer detects a misfire. That's why it shakes at idle. Maybe a fuel injector problem. Q: I have a problem with a 1985 Chevy G30 van with the hydroboost system.The brakes are locking up from time to time and also are grabby at times. I know that the front brakes are locking up but I am not sure yet about the rears. If I let it set for a while the pressure bleeds of and they may be OK for a week or more. I have bled the front brakes to remove any dirt. Opening the bleeders does not to seem to instantly release the brakes either. The brake pedal does not seem to be sticking and the actuating rod length has never been changed.I have been told the master cylinder will not cause this. What about the hydro booster or proportioning valve? The brake system warning light DOES NOT come on when this happens.I am desperate here as this is the truck I use to make my living as a contractor.If anyone has experienced this please contact me.: I don't know a whole bunch about these systems, but I can tell you that the combination (AKA proportioning) valve, if it has/sees issues, will turn on. But it is designed for a brake bias issue between front and rear.if one or the other circuits drops pressure, the brake light will come on. Also, if the master cylinder leaks internally, the brake light should come on. Assuming brake light works, you need to test the combo valve to make sure it is working properly. All you do is locate it (on trucks it was located on the furthest forward crossmember, just follow the two brake lines from the master to it) and pull the single wire connector off of it. With the key in run, as I recall the circuit, the light should stay off. Now ground that wire to a clean spot on the frame or engine. The light should come on. That means the circuit is working, and IF the proportioning valve was faulty, the brake light should come on, which essentially eliminates it as a cause of the problem. Sorry I can't help beyond that, but I don't know how the hydroboost applies braking effort.almost sounds like a stuck valve somewhere.

I'd like one that updates automatically and uses the cigarette lighter for power.: There are no navigation systems on the market today that I know of that automatically update. The pioneer AVIC are updated by CD. I have a Magellan, and there is no information in the manuals about updating.

Q: This is a great little SUV. I‘ve been the only owner since I bought it Jan 2000. The only major problem I‘ve had in 7 years is the dealer changed out the cam shafts in 2005. Now the battery light is coming on. Does anyone know what a battery light on the dash indicator could mean? I‘ve looked on automotive forums and many have said to check the ground for the alternator or the alternator is going bad. I hope it‘s just the grounding. HELP!! Q: I purchased the car in March and it runs fine. In the past month I have noticed that occasionally the battery light comes on. It does not matter whether the lights or a/c are on or off. I tried reving the engine to see if that would turn it off and that does not seem to make a difference. After a minute or two it goes off and may not do it again for a week. The meter on the dash shows that the system is charging. I do not know the age of the battery as it is not marked, but the terminals are tight and do not have corrosion.: the reason its going off and on its telling you theres something wrong with the charging system i would have the battery and terminals checked the then i would check the altanator most places cant tell you your stuff is going bad when they run a test all the test dose it tell you if its bad or good but the light dont lie so the best way to check is to run your car at normal idal and turn all the lights on every thing with a volt meter place each end on the battery pos and neg side and see if your battery charging if your battery is putting out 12 or more volts when running then the altanator is charging your battery if it not i would go the cheapest way by replacing the battery if you problem still exsist then your altanator is bad those are the only two items that would make that light come on
