Q: something with my Tempnow my thermostat is going crazy, it goes up to the red and then back down, when i drive it stays down, if i sit in traffic it starts to overheart, I do have a coolant leak, had it for 1 year and no mechanic can ever find the leak, also my heat is not workingI will be taking it to a mechanic today but wanted someone opnion of what it could be and how much you think the cost will be: Low coolant or air in the coolant system, will cause the vehicle to overheat, heater not to work, and erratic temp gauge. So that answers your currant symptoms. Do you have the 3.4 liter v6? If so, the coolant system needs to bleed after you fill the coolant. Looking at the motor, there should be a bleeder on the passenger side, front by the belt. There might be another one on the driver side by the thermostat. Loosen these, fill with coolant. Start the car and let it warm up. While it is warming up, you will see coolant, and air sputtering out of these bleeders. Wait until it is a solid stream of coolant, then close them. Top off the coolant and you are done. Now where is the coolant going. If it is the 3.4 v6 the motors are infamous for intake gaskets, and head gaskets going bad. Check the oil, to see if coolant is showing up in there. If not do a compression test on the motor. Willing to bet that head, or intake gaskets are bad, and that is where the coolant is going. If it is deemed the intake gaskets are bad, might as well spend the extra and have the headgaskets changed. You will save in the long run. Hope it goes well.

Q: I have a Grand AM GT. My Service Engine Soon light came on recently and I cannot figure out why. I know it is not because of the gas cap because this happened before and back then it was the gas cap and now I religiously turn the cap 3 clicks when putting back on. I recently had a Fuel System Cleaning at Sears and I am wondering if that maybe has something to do with it? The light went off yesterday but came back on today. Also is there an easy way to clear that light, one that doesn‘t require a visit to a mechanic?: it could be several things causing it to come on ! it don,t take much for the light to come on ! you need to have someone run the codes on the computer, auto zone and advance can do it for you for free ! it depend on what year your grand am is ! on the older cars you could unhook the battery for about 5 minutes to clear the codes but the newer cars the garage has to do it !

Q: I do installing for a living and i am stumped on what to do about this. I put a viper 350hv in my 2002 dodge intrepid. my car never came with key less entry. mind you that car had power locks already. if i manually lock the door with the switch on the inside of the car and shut the door my dome light will dim and go out but if i just shut the door and lock it with the vipers fob the it will lock and chip twice meaning it is overriding the dome light because it wont dim. there are two ways i can think of to fix it. one is to set the setting on the viper to auto arm 30 seconds after the last door is shut or fix the dome light problem. please help!: diode isolate the doors 4 diodes and one more diode so the 12v don't come back to the alarm green wire in the drivers door total 5 diodes and it work i did it on a 2003 limited town and country some system

Q: I have a 2005 Saturn Vue 4 cyl. the high beams stay on. When the lights are set to auto or manual the high beams stay on. The only way to make them go off is to take the fuse out that controls the headlights. Thought it might be the battery, had it checked was bad replaced the battery same issue with the lights. My last thought it may be the alternator but nothing in the owners manual obout the alternator. Trying to not have the car towed to a shop so any help with be great.: Do these lights stay on when the ignition is off? If yes check the light relay. If the lights are on all the time but only when the ignition is on, these are your daytime running lights. Nearly all GM products have daytime running lights as standard equipment since about 1997. A safety feature that makes your car more easily seen by oncoming traffic. It would be foolish to attempt to disable this safety feature. When the daytime running lights are on the high beams stay on, but only at half power. This is not enough energy to effect the battery or charging system. It does not significantly reduce the high beam bulb life. Besides, what's more important? The lifespan of a replaceable light bulb or your lifespan. The daytime running lights should be on any time the ignition is in the on position. The position of the headlight switch has no effect on the daytime running lights.

Q: I just bought a used motorcycle and there are two extra front lights added onto it. The switch that turns these lights on is broken. What is the name of this type of switch so that I can find a replacement? It‘s just a tiny little switch on the left-hand mirror. It‘s been added on, it‘s not an original part of the motorcycle.: Sounds like an aftermarket automotive fog light switch. You could probably find a replacement at any auto parts store, but before you hook the new switch up again, you should trace the wiring to make sure the system is wired correctly. If it's not, it could cause more problems somewhere down the road.

Q: What is a simple way to disconnect the damn light, because the breaks are fine, but with the panel light showing and not shutting off, it fails inspection, and i dont want to replace my break system.: Sometimes the wheel sensor will set a code even when its good. The reason? Brake dust!!! Brakes are made of metallic material, and this dust will build up so bad between the sensor and the reluctor, that it sees the wheel as stopped all the time, thus setting a code. Its a real simple fix to just remove the wheels, and clean away all that build up between the little wheel (reluctor) and the pick-up (sensor). As the wheel turns, the magnetic pick-up (sensor) generates pulses of electricty everytime one of the prongs on the (reluctor) wheel passes the magnet in the sensor. If it is clogged up with metal brake dust, it can't generated any electricity because it doesn't see anything passing, but has metal there all the time. The result is: the computer doesn't see a signal from the sensor, and sets a code because the computer thinks the wheel is not turning. The light will stay on. A quick way to test these sensors is to unplug the sensor, set a meter to read very low DC voltage in the milli-volt range, connect the meter to the two prongs on the sensor, spin the wheel and you should get a reading. If you don't, also try the very low side on the AC setting. I don't remember which it is but you will figure it out. 99% of the time, it is showing a bad sensor from the wheel when in fact the sensor is good, but won't generate a signal because the dust is caked up in there to where you can't even find the sensor. Check it out, and you will see what I mean. Also, If you have a reading, and still get a code, check the wire all the way back to the computer with a test light, but only after you have un-plugged the harness from the computer. I would take your Maxima to a different mechanic for a second opinion.
