- Q: On my 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais with Auto Trans, if my Problem was with the Shift Linkage or ‘Detent,‘ Would my Reverse lights come on when i moved the Gear Selector into ‘R‘?Or should i just skip all Fluid remedies and have the Other Trans thrown in?SOmeone DID say i should change the Filter, and see what happens, then get it Flushed and see, to see if it will help build up Pressure to make reverse work, in other words Exhaust FLushing Options to try to bring it back.I have Trans for this in the Trunk.Thank You.
- no, if the problem is linkage the lights still come on, the lights are operated by a contact switch that trips when you put the gear selector in Reverse. If you know how, go ahead and try flushing the system and putting a new filter in, couldnt hurt to try, its fairly cheap and if it fixes it, good for you. If its a band or a clutch pack, youre better off replacing the entire trans.
- Q: The engine need service soon light was on in my vehicle last week. I suspected it was the bad fuel I put in since it turned on immediately after I pumped at Costco. I was busy and did not have a chance to go to my auto shop. Yesterday, I found the warning light was gone. It contradicts my general understanding that once the light is on, you need a device to turn it off. Will it be something like if you wait long enough, the bad thing will go away by itself?
- it depends what it was. the check engine light just tells you there's a code stored in the computer's memory. you need the code reader to retrieve the code. my guess is your gas cap wasnt tightened properly after you filled up at costco, throwing a #1443 code, indicating a problem in the evaporative emissions control system (EEC). a loose gas cap will bleed off the vacuum pressure the vehicle uses for the test, causing you to fail the test after you drove away from costco. or it could be some other thing that shows up intermittently. you need to pull the codes stored in the memory to know for sure what happened after you filled up. the gas smell sounds like a seperate problem that occured before you drove away from costco and got an error code. could be a fuel leak somewhere. in newer cars, just turning the key to the on position will power the electric fuel pump. turn off the radio and fan and when you turn the key you'll hear the pump whirring for about a second in your fuel tank, pressurizing the fuel system to feed your injectors the instant you start the car. just turn the key on a few times and leave it on and then go follow your fuel lines to your fuel rail and down each injector and see if you see any fuel leaks. open the hood and use your nose to see if you smell gas. you could have a bad fuel pressure regulator or some bad o-rings, cracked injector, fuel filter

- Did they say what system in particular was “thin”? The air conditioning…? That is so vague that it could mean anything and guessing won’t really help you any. Hope they didn’t charge for the check. Maybe there isn’t enough Freon in the system and that’s why it’s “thin”…that’s an easy fix, just a quick recharge…but it wouldn’t really explain why your engine is beginning to act up.
- Q: What is a simple way to disconnect the damn light, because the breaks are fine, but with the panel light showing and not shutting off, it fails inspection, and i dont want to replace my break system.
- fails what inspection ? The abs is for brakes the obd2 is emission control. In some vehicles the obd2 may use the abs wheel sensors for a vehicle speed sensor but it should show up as a fault at the check engine lite. Any smog techs out there.
- Q: My check engine light has come one and Auto Zone ran a diagnostic scan, giving me code P000A. Unfortunately, this code was not in their system so they could not diagnose my problem. Does anyone know what this code means without me having to pay VW $100 to figure out?!Thanks!!

- Q: I want to get a navagation system for my truck but i was wondering if they sold any that didnt have to be installed. like a portable one? is that possible? my finance works for a company where he goes all around the county visiting people at home but the problem is that he has a hard time finding a lot of the places and we cant install one into his work truck because its his companys truck not his so i was thinking maybe they had a portable navagation system where he can type in where he is leaving from and where he needs to go and it can give him a map of how to get there or anything like that...any ideas? please help
- Absolutely, just about every electronic / auto accessory store sells them, if you are in Europe get the Tom Tom, in N. America get a Garmin, Garmin uses better N. American maps.
- Q: Last week my hazard warning lights stopped working, at the same time my windscreen washer stopped working. The indicators still work fine and the windscreen wipers still work fine. Any ideas? I couldnt find which fuse the washer system was on either (wasnt in the hand manual).The car is a 2003 Renualt Clio
- I would lean towards a relay on the hazard lights. no clue if they tied in the washers as well, dont see why they would. check underdash fuses and underhood fuses and replace the hazard relay. obviously its not the flasher relay as the flashers still work. look in the owners manual for fuse/relay locations. if your fuse puller is missing, use small pliers to grab onto the fuses. you need to be able to look down the sides to see if there's a break in the terminal.
