Q: The check engine light came up on my catera and took it Autozone and Advance Auto parts. They scanned it and this what it shows P0171 P0174. Details belowP0171: The PCM has determined that during testing, the fuel system bank 1 was too lean. (Bank #1 indentifies that the location of cylinder 1, while bank 2 identifies the cylinders on the opposite bank).Probable causes:1. If bank 1 2 codes set together suspect fuel pressure or MAF sensor.2. Oxygen sensor3. Ignition misfire4. Fuel injectorP0174: The PCM has determined that during testing, the fuel system for bank 2 was too lean.Probable causes:1. If bank 1 2 codes are set together suspect a fuel condition or MAF sensor.2. Failed H02S213. Ignition misfire condition4. Fuel injector5. Engine mechanical condition. The guys at the store said it could be the fuel filter. Any idea what could be the exact problem? I‘m thinkng O2 sensor but I could be wrong.
well 90% of the time that is the first thing to change that and a bottle of fuel treatment. so when was the last time you replace the fuel filter shoul d be done once a year and fuel treatment every few months or so. both cost like 10 bucks and easy
Q: The light disappears spontaneously after 1 seconds. The car drives ok afterwards. The oil level looks fine on dipstick, and I have one bar left on the auto oil change indicator. This has been happening for the last 2-3 weeks. I recently had a dead battery, which is lt;1 yr old, and thought it might be a bad alternator. Could this all be due to that? Thanks
THIS COULD BE ONE OF TWO THINGS,, WHEN YOU MAKE THE TURN THE OIL IS NOT BEING DRAWN BY THE PICKUP TUBE IN THE OIL PAN AND THE SENSOR SEES NO OIL PRESSURE,,, YOUR ENGINE OIL VISCOSITY COULD ALSO BE WRONG, CAUSING THE DROP IN OIL PRESSURE,, I WOULD TRY FIRST ADDING AN EXTRA QUART OF OIL AND TRYING THE FAST RIGHT TURN AND SEE IF THIS GOES AWAY,, EVEN IF IT LOOKS LIKE ITS ABOVE THE LINE ON THE STICK,,, ITS JUST ONE QUART AND WONT HURT ANYTHING,, IF THE LIGHT STILL COMES ON THEN WHEN U DO YOUR OIL CHANGE TRY A HEAVIER VISCOSITY OIL, LIKE A 10/40 INSTEAD OIF A 5/30 OIL,,, THE THICKER OIL MAY BRING THE OIL PRESSURE BACK UP TO NORMAL.FAR AS THE DEAD BATTERY,, U CAN HAVE THE ALTERNATOR TESTED AT AN AUTOZONE FOR FREE,, THEY WILL BRING A LIL MACHINE OUT AND RUN AN AMP TEST ON YOUR SYSTEM,, OR AN EASIER WAY IF U HAVE A VOLT METER IS TO PUT THE POSITIVE AND NEGATOIVE LEADS OF THE VOLTMATER ACROSS THE BATTERY,, TURN ALL ACCESORIES LIGHTS AIR ETC ON AND SEE IF U R RUNNIN 13.5 VOLTS OR BETTER,, IF SO ALT IS GOOD,,, YOU CAN ALSO LOAD TEST THE BATTERY TO DETERMINE ITS STRENGHTH,,,ART
Q: We took my car to autozone after we went thru a large puddle on Sunday nite and the car is not showing any codes. so basically the light is just stuck on and I want to turn it off Does anyone know how to turn it off for this model? It‘s a champagne 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
the check engine light does not stay on for no reason First are u sure its the check engine light? If it is then there is a code in the system. You may have to take it to a more qualified person i have not had good luck with auto zone. To clear the light you will need a scan tool. A auto shop has a scan tool. Some people say disconnecting the battery will clear the light, but it wont the computer still stores the code.
Q: They have just announced today the features of the new CANON EOS 450D:12.2 megapixel CMOS sensor SD/SDHC cards Larger viewfinder Live view mode, including contrast-detect AF Improved 9-point AF system Spot metering3.0 LCD monitor Redesigned menus (including My Menu as seen in 40D) Slightly redesigned info display Continuous shooting at 3.5fps for up to 53 JPEG (6 RAW) ISO setting displays in viewfinder and ISO button New, larger, higher capacity battery 14 bit A/D converter and processing Multi-shot self-timer mode Highlight Tone Priority (from 40D) Auto Lighting Optimiser (boosts shadows after shooting) Kit lens with ISI‘m still contemplating on getting either this 450D ($899) or the 400D ($549). Do you think the additional features justify the price difference? Or should I just get the 400D and get better lenses?
I would go for the 450D for a few important reasons: 1) improved AF system. Very important in getting focused shots, particularly in dim light. 2) larger LCD monitor. Avoid frustration from having to try to make out details on a small screen. 3) larger viewfinder: makes it easier to compose. 4) improved kit lens with IS All of these things together make the 450D a better value--you'll get more keepers. Any one alone might not be enough, but taken together, it makes the price difference inconsequential. If I were Canon, I'd cut the Canon 350D, keep the 400D and cut the price, and add the 450D.
Q: What is the meaning of the car lens?
Is to make the high beam together, near light is not needed. Because the light is looking at the ground. Far away to look at the distance.
Q: I‘ve noticed in the last few days that my gears seem to be slipping. Not just one gear, but all of them. Sometimes they won‘t engage at all, and sometimes, I can get the car moving, and the transmission will slip out of gear while shifting to any further gears. It is an automatic transmission. Yesterday, I decided to go in and get my transmission flushed, but while I was driving in, the warning light came on saying there was a problem with the emissions system. I know in previous vehicles that my catalytic converter choked the engine when I needed to replace it, but I never seemed to have problems driving the vehicle. Any gear-heads out there that might be able to help me out?
modern auto trannys r controlled by computer.bad battery bad bat connection can fool computer into acting crazy. emission lite can be from bad spark plug/wire ,,oxygen sensor.all can effect tranny.that said.did the flush help?. i dont like flushes because they stir up crap in side and dont change the filter slipping sounds bad. iv had trannys go bad in 100,000 miles even changing fluid/filter at 40,000 and 75,000 miles.good luck
Q: My sister has had all her tires slashed at work 5 times in the last year and it's getting stupid. Her work won't put up cameras and the police (many of which are friends of hers) can't do anything about it. So what is a good system to catch this joker? She works midnights at a nursing home, so night vision a must. Cost at this point isn't, although cheaper would be better. 5 sets of tires isn't cheap. If it was happening more often I would be in a parked car with shotgun.
There are many surveillance cams that might be adaptable to a vehicle, but we don't know what the precise parking and building layout are - or your familiarity with setting up a power supply. I get my different cameras at Fry's Electronics. bhphotovideo has an OK selection. There are some commercial grade vehicle surveillance systems, but they seem like overkill for your needs and will be difficult to adapt to other situations, if needed. Remember, the camera is only one piece. I presume you need the video recorded. There are video surveillance digital video recorders (DVRs). Much more useful than the tape based systems. But again, power is the issue. There are a few small POV cams that use flash memory (like those from VIO, but they don't do well in low/no light) and the batteries won't likely last for an entire shift - and you don't want the car's battery drained. I am not aware of any vehicle motion detection integrated systems - but external motion detection (someone approaching the vehicle) is possible. Where do you plan on putting the cameras? In the car? No/Low light infrared systems may have issues with glare/reflection from the vehicle's windows. In the wheel wells? That just sounds like trouble waiting to happen. You will likely need 4 cameras to cover all approach angles. (front/sides/rear), but I can't figure out where you would mount them - maybe on an SUV with a roof rack, but on a sedan, that would look too strange. And running the wires could be a challenge unless you can squeeze them through the top portion of the door or trunk weather strip... I was figuring putting the DVR in the trunk and running the wires there. The back of the car is do-able with a small back-up camera. The front is sort of do-able with a grill-mount, but the sides... they are a challenge. Especially with the no/low-light requirement. The small cameras don't have an infrared emitter; and those with an infrared emitter are BIG. Good luck...
Q: I have a 2004 Honda Accord LX 2 Dr. it has cruise control *the guy at the auto parts store asked, so I thought that might matter* and it is a 4 cyl. I am getting ready to sell it, the guy buying it wanted to take it to a mechanic to have it looked over, I agreed. At the end of the inspection, the mechanic said that everything was great except my brake lights didn‘t work. All the brake lights are out. I assumed it was the fuse, as did my BF.but after checking I don‘t see a brake light fuse. I really don‘t want to have to go through each fuse. My brother is mechanically inclined, and said it seems more likely to be the brake light switch as he checked the fuses he thought it was. So what does everyone else think? Ask for any additional information you need. Thanks a lot!
Poopek nailed it on the nosey.
Q: My check engine light came on, so I went to auto zone to have it checked. The guy said I had a small leak. He said to check certain things but I forgot most of them. I have been asking on yahoo but a few people were asking for the code. I dont think I have it but I do have the receipt. Not sure what it means though. Here it is:TROUBLESHOOTING P0456Definition: EVAP small leak detectedExplanation:The ECM has detected a large leak in the EVAP system during a system monitor test.Probable Causes:1. Defective, loose or missing fuel cap2. EVAP canister broke, hose cracked or not connected3. Purge or ven solenoid defective4. Vacuum leak at engineCan you please tell me what the terms EVAP, CVM means? Also, how/where do I check for the things listed. Im not engine savvy, so I dont know where the evap hose/canister is.
There is no easy way to answer this question. Atleast for me. Make sure you gas cap is tight. Then make sure all vacuum hoses are attached. I would say if thats not the case take it to a proffesional. I think the rest would be to complicated for some one with no experience with cars Im didnt mean that in a harsh way. Sorry
Q: Sony handy-cam DCR-SX85 question?
Go find the Manual that came with your Camcorder. In that, look for the section that tells you how to shoot in Manual Mode. Doing this this shuts of the Auto focus function of your Camcorder. All good Video Shooters know that and use that.
