Q: The car had it‘s transmission replaced last year and it felt somewhat similar when the transmission was going. It has 120k miles and other than the transmission has always been a trooper. It hasn‘t stalled yet at a low speed but it feels like it‘d like to. Anyone have any guesses? Is the check emission light and check engine light the same on this car? Pretty terrified.
Use hot, soapy water. Palmolive or Tide would do well. But blot don't rub or scrub because you may enlarge the stain. Be sure to use hot water rinse once the stain is out to remove the soapy residue.
Q: I have a 1995 curris. My check engine light comes one after 10 minutes of driving. i took it to a shop to find out what the deal was, the auto guy was like when you drive it you can feel it when the car drops cylinders. what is the cause of this? i get reg. oil changes since i do alot of driving. once a month i have to put fuel injector into my tank, what should i do? some one reconmmended to me that i should like clean out the engines system or whatever with some fuild type stuff. if you think u know what im talking about, do you think that will work? at tymes it does have a burning smell.
Usually dead cylinders are the result of an ignition system malfunction, such as a fouled plug, bad spark plug wire or coil, as well as a couple of other possible culprits. If the shop you took it to couldn't find out what the cause was, take it to another shop. You can also go to Checker Auto, Autozone, etc., and they will read your 'check engine' light for free. If you have a misfire, the code will come up as a 'cylinder number x misfire', or 'multiple cylinder misfire'.
Q: Does the truck have a self diagnosis tool that can tell me the code for the check engine light? Like some Chrysler /Dodge products if you turn the key 3 times a code will appear on the dash. What about the GMC?
Did u put in fuel shortly before the light came on? I own 2 service centers the most common situation with Check Engine lights are because the fuel cap wasn't re-installed or not tightened. When you refuel make sure it clicks when putting back on. We don't charge for a Code Reading but a dealer will, don't go there. Go, like the others suggested, to Murray's, Auto-zone. If it is the fuel cap you re-install it correctly, the light will go off after a short drive. Good Luck. PS-Don't panic when the Check Engine light comes on unless it blinks, if that happens don't drive. PSS-RE: Murray's, Auto-Zone.If it's a Code (the reader will give a #) the code book will tell you the problem. PSSS-Some1 please have Troy W's Mommy Daddy take away his keyboard. Just because you can put together a Lego car doesn't make you a master mechanic. You only repeated what we said except you have a Napoleon complex against any1 plugging something in to a vehicle. It's the same as plugging in a light home you fool!
Q: My check engine light is flashing when i accelerate on my 1989 ford bronco. it doesn't flash with coasting or just idling. Only when i am accelterating. Auto Zone cant read it because it is a soft code. How do i find out why it is flashing?
That vehicle is equipped with the old EEC-IV system that has three levels of codes. Hard faults- those that are present now; running faults- those that are present with the engine running; continuous faults or pending- those that have been triggered intermittently during the last 40 key cycles. In order to test for any codes, it will probably require a Super Star II tester, or equivalent. A dealer may still have one, or some independent shops. There are any number of causes for the condition. I suspect an intermittent problem that will only show up as a continuous or running code. Any code(s) received will be your starting point for diagnosis before replacing any parts. Do you notice any other symptoms other than the light? What engine/trans is in the vehicle?
Q: i dont have an owners manual and i wondered if anyone knew the most likely reason? it came on for about 1 hour and then it shut off.
The engine check light comes on when a sensor fails or one that is set to monitor the various parts of the engine activates. If it does not stay on, forget it. If you took it in, the Chevrolet repair would not find anything, and you would have to pay for a check up. If it stays on, go in and have it checked out. Then, the Chevrolet repair will have a chance to catch it by the electronic sensor detector. It will give out a code that the mechanics will translate to the problem. Normally it is minor, but it could be major. Keep an eye on it.
Q: I did a system restore but it‘s taking way too long (hours).if I pull the battery out will I lose all my word documents? (I‘m not really concerned about anything other than that).
System Restore has nothing to do with your documents - it restores a backup of the system registry. If it takes longer than 15 minutes, you have a MAJOR problem. If you're doing a reinstallation of Windows (Windows Restore), and you turn the computer off (with the switch or by removing the battery), you'll have a nice door stop. You'll have a partially installed Windows that might work or it might not. (If it doesn't, you'll need a repair shop to get the laptop working again, and you'll lose ALL your files.) If this is the case, just plug it in and wait until it's finished - even if it takes until tomorrow. You have no other choice.
Q: said I need to replace the coolant system for $3000 . Also, my windshield wiper fluid will not come out and somehow this is related? The engine has never overheated and we just got a new emission control sticker last week. Any suggestions or can anyone validate this assesmment. I live in GeorgiaThank you
Service Engine Soon and Check Engine Soon in a 1996 newer car are the same (the Actual name for them is the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)). Service Vehicle (body brakes etc) or Maintenance Required (Milaged triggered usualy) are different. Your Check Engine Soon light is on. That means (by law) that the the cars computer has sensed a problem that COULD be causing the Emissions to exceed the federal maximum. Now what is the problem? Drives fine. Take the car to an Autozone or OReilies or Advanced Auto. Have them READ the OBDll code (for free). This will give you an IDEA on where to start looking for a problem. Do NOT purchase parts (or have work done) based soley upon having the codes read. The part could be OK, it could just be reporting its sensing a problem. Repost your problem after you have gotten the code(s) read and see what some of the fine experienced mechanics that watch this site can offer you (They tend to watch after work) As for the $85.00 fee to look at it That sounds about normal if what they are telling you they are going to do is DIAGNOSE the problem. Reading the codes is not a Diagnosisits just reading the codes. Diagnosing can take 15 minutes or 2 hours (or more) just to make sure they found the problem and are not replacing parts to make the symptom go away. And yes a GOOD mechanic allways wants to make sure his customers cars are kept in Tip Top condition (sign of a good mechanic) and as an owner of two BMW's I can tell you they are NOT cheep to repair/maintain. Easy to tell how much your 530 will cost to repair 530 divide by 2265 Multiply by 10 and you get $2,650.00 for any significant repair (I told this to my BMW (Bring More Wampum) mechanic and he laughed at/with me)
Q: 2002 Honda Civic sedan with 94,300 miles. Never any maintenance done except oil changes. All original parts except for tires and battery. I had an auto parts store check the code. It was P1457 which indicates there is a leak in the evaporative emission control system in the control canister. The man that checked the code deleted it and the light has not come back on. Should I still have it checked?
If the light comes back on yes. Unless there has been a decrease in engine performance or mileage its possible you had an error code. If the problem persists then take it into the shop for repair.
Q: So the past couple of days I have been driving my car with the check engine light on. I know, I should have gotten it checked out and it was stupid to keep driving like that. But it was working fine until this morning! I went out to start my car before school and it wouldn‘t start! I put the key in the ignition and the lights and radio and everything work just fine. I turned the key and the car makes these sounds like fast continuous gun shots going off for 2 or 3 seconds. Every light on the dash turns on and then they all just turn off. I don‘t think it‘s a problem with the battery because the lights and everything are working okay. I just don‘t want to go to a shop to get it looked at because I don‘t have that kind of money right now. If someone could give me an idea of what they think is going on I‘d really appreciate it. I‘ll choose best answer.
Your supposition about the battery is wrong because it takes much more current to crank the engine than it does to run the lights or the radio. You have either a near dead battery, a bad alternator, a slipping belt, or a dirty connection at the battery terminals. The last three are things that would prevent the battery from recharging.
Q: 1993 honda prelude vtec auto electrical problem. Sometimes doesn't start sports light flashes on dash?
don't quite understand what you are asking as a flashing S light is typically not connected to a no start. the S light flashing means that the automatic transmission control has detected a problem in the control system sensors or outputs. It usually indicates a bad vehicle speed sensor but can mean other things. Did you notice what gear is indicated when you have the light flashing and the no start? I'm thinking that the range switch that tells the control unit what gear you are in isn't working correctly. what happens when it doesn't start? does it not crank? do you have no response to turning the key or does the engine turn over and not fire? the no start could be caused by a bad transmission range switch. try starting the car in Neutral instead of in Park the next time it happens. if the car starts in Neutral the range switch or the adjustment of the switch is your most likely cause. if there is no response to turning the key you could have a battery issue or a starter issue in addition to the transmission problem that is causing the S light to come on. Everything in the trans control system that is related to starting can be working right so that you get power to the starter but if the starter is defective (high resistance) it won't start. same with a low battery that doesn't have the current to turn the starter. check the connections on the starter and the battery. if you have a voltmeter you could check for power to the starter when the car doesn't start and that would tell you if you have a problem with the trans side or the starter side. i think you have two separate problems. unfortunately there's not enough information to give you any more to go on hope that helps
